Denmark: 684 songs submitted for national final

Today at 12:00 CET was the deadline for submitting songs to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2009, the Danish national final in the Eurovision Song Contest. 684 songs were submitted to broadcaster DR, many more than in recent years.

As reported earlier, no semi finals will be held. The national final will take place on 31st January with ten songs competing. Six of the songs will be chosen from the submitted ones and another four will be added by invited singers and groups.

Furthermore, esconnet.dk has mentioned some of the writers who have sumbitted songs. Among them are: DQ (Peter Andersen), who represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with Drama queen, the duo Me & My that took part in the national final the same year, Claus & Anne-Marie Hassing from this year's national final as well as Claus Christen, co-writer of Drama queen. Sussi and Leo, popular singers in Denmark, have also submitted an entry.

Simon Mathew finished third in the second semi final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest and qualified for the final where he finished 15th with All night long.

@ Jonny and Stockholm
Les Fatals Picards were my favourite in 2007 - but France manages to win six times for me, so there aren't my total French favourite...
For me, Nicole Rieu and Dan ar Braz are definitely battling for first place...

Yeah, I still can't tell why we chose Scooch over a quite a few good songs :D
By the way, heres Dustin the Turkey on "the one show" on BBC1 - http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=Rv0pRxu02tg :D

Jonny
lol. We love our MF artists.
Thanks a lot for posting the links. The UK had three very good songs in the 2007 NF but chose Scooch :D "Mysterious woman" is my second favourite in 1997 after "Love shine a light".

Aaaawww I can't believe you have so many programmes with ESC/MF artists on them! :) :P On the subject of ESC and TV, I just found a clip of Marc Roberts (Ireland 97) on a UK tv show - http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=jDd3GN0civg
And an interview with some of our 2007 NF participants - http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=NVWcQhXnoik

Jonny
Yes, you're right in that the long version of "Il faut du temps" is better. I hadn't listened to it before. The 3 minute rule is silly. "Il faut du temps" and "A chaque pas" are in my top 3 in 2002/2004 :)
lol. Yes, it's Hafdis in that car. Now Sibel is on TV singing an up-tempo song and 20 minutes ago Charlotte performed.

Stockholm
Aaah, "il faut du temps" is one of my favourites aswell, and "a chaque pas" but I prefer the long version of "if faut du temps", not the 3:00 version she performed at ESC. In fact, if you listen, the version she performed at ESC is just the album version sped up, she sings exactly the same amount of verses and chorus's :)

Btw totally random but! A ESC related person is in a car advert! - http://uk.youtube.co(...)&feature=related - The woman in the advert was from this years Icelandic selection and sung an alright song called "boys and perfume". I am pretty sure this advert was shown in the UK, I vaguely remember it, although I never knew who the woman was in it :D

I agree with Stockholm, Les Fatales are one of my favourite ever French entries :D In fact they're my second favourite after "je n'ai que mon ame" :)

Stockholm

Les Fatals Picards were great. "L'amour à la francaise" has to be my favourite French entry :)

Please, no DQ again! Let Katherine Falkenberg try for Denmark...!

@ Jonny K
I was live at the French national final of 2007 - it was just great.
Fatals Picards and Valérie Louri gave me goose-bumps... ;)

Jonny
I was thinking the same thing. Belgium would probably do well in ESC with a song like "Shut up" :)

Stockholm
Oooh I see, well I will look a bit further into some of her other songs then ;)
And you're right about Belgian JESC songs, most of the songs in their selection this year were better than all the other countries JESC songs :D If only they would send "shut up" or "un nouveau reve" to ESC instead, because those songs would do well at ESC :D

Great song ;) Many of the songs Malene sang at the Jazz Club last year were the same style as "Another day".
Now that Belgium has so many good JESC songs I'm glad that I can understand Dutch :D

Stockholm
Wow, I wish I could speak Swedish fluently, well I wish I could speak every language in the world fluently, but that might be a bit too much lol! :) I think i'll stick to French for the time being ;) I hope France have a national final this year, cause apart from the UK and Irish national final, I can't understand any lmao! :) But I can partially understand French so it would be kinda nice to watch a foreign NF where I know whats going on lol! :)

Btw I just found this totally awesome song by Malene - http://uk.youtube.co(...)&feature=related :) It reminds me a bit of some of the songs on Sahlenes "photograph" album :)

Stockholm
Yeah, unfortunately her performance wasn't great, but Greece should have come last! "tell me who you are" is such a great ballad, but also quite modern at the same time, kinda like "believe" :D
And I can't believe you've met so many esc-related people! Its incredible! You must have some contacts in the business lol! ;)

Good luck to Denmark! My favourite Danish entry is "Fra Mols til Skagen" :)

Jonny
Glad to hear that you like the Danish 2002 entry. It didn't deserve to come last :( I met Malene a year ago, a nice girl and a very good singer :)

NO DQ again...and Sussi & Leo...OMG....*LOL*...well perhaps they could do it for us....100% they will win if they get through to the danish final.....and i'm afraid they will....
