56 entries to proceed
Malta: More developments on 2009 national selection
Fifty six is the final number of songs which will be competing for a ticket to Malta's national final, as revealed exclusively to partner site escmalta.com, by Mr Anastasi. All of them will, for the first time, be released in a triple CD compilation so that they are promoted to the Maltese public.
In a long meeting, held last Friday, U.K.A.M. also pleaded with PBS that in case one singer submits two songs which both qualify, then the second one should not be dropped as originally stated in the Eurosong rules. PBS, though, remained adamant in their initial position that although a singer may submit up to two songs, only one of them will proceed. "It is true that U.K.A.M. stressed and stressed on this issue, but, at this point in time, for the benefit of all those participating in this traditional festival it felt wiser to let go. U.K.A.M. is to cater for all its members. Surely, that many others prefer one singer, one song, for they stand a better chance." Mr Anastasi stated.

too many songs, so useless (too many heats too, most of the songs will become useless)
56 is still a lot of songs... but hey, 1 great song will perhaps come forward from it I'm sure... knowing Malta.
Good luck Malta!
I have appreciated many of Malta's songs in the past (including This Time!) The songs of the last couple of years haven't been so strong (Vertigo was pleasant, but it didn't have a "killer hook" in my opinion, and Vodka...sheesh...got the place it deserved I believe). 56 songs from any country is a lot, and they cannot possibly all be of high quality, but lets hope those that are quality get through. Good luck to Malta!
Too many songs IMO....sounds too much like mass and not like class a la Chiara or Ira. There are probably only a few strong entries surrounded by many, many weak ones. No one actually believes in 56 strong entires !! We currently see what mass really means at the Bulgarian NF " rounds ".
And you are Norwegian...like me
Are you a member of OGAE?
Wow, someone else who actually likes "This time"?!?!?!?! I thought I was the only person in the world who even remembered it...
Last two years have been horrible for Malta. "Vertigo" and "Vodka" were really annoying songs, terribly far from "Angel" or "7th Wonder".
I hope Malta will return to the way of the first half of this decade...
I knew Vodka wouldn't be in the final, I'm hoping for a better result in 2009. Go Malta!
I fear 56 songs built around 1 word titles.... Whisky, Agrophobia, Spassiba, Devil.....
A return to producing classics such as Chiara's 1998 and 2005 entries will soon see Malta returning to the top 3. Any more rubbish like Vodka and sadly Malta will be down there with the UK.
Way too many entries in a NF, especially for a small country like Malta. I hope for something good!
Finally! Today is the day, when 28 of the entries in the Melodifestivalen-2009 will be revealed. Just about three hours to go...I can't wait!
I hope Malta return to form in 2009. They have entered some very good songs over the years. 2007 and 2008 were dreadful.
I love Vertigo too.
So many songs? Cool! Will be exciting to follow
Having said that...neither Maltese finals nor entries have impressed me much over the years. So many dull, old-fashioned ballads, or cheesy kitschy songs. Their best entries ever are "This Time" and "Vodka". I also like F. Faninello's songs. And some others. My gf liked Vertigo a lot, but it wasn't quite my taste.
Good luck anyway to Malta!
marc, you are very right though on Vodka and other Maltese entries through the years. I know very well that ESC is big in Malta, and i would like to see Malta winning very much. But i think they have also to try a bit harder to find and choose a very good song that can make the difference. It is also true that Malta is not particularly benefited by any usual voting pattern and this makes things a bit harder for it. But think of Finnland 2007, and please Malta, give us a bomabastic song this time. Something like Chiara and upwards, maybe :-)
That's fine Vincent, I try to appreciated everyone's opinion. For me Vertigo was just ok, just. But it was overorchestrated, over dramatised, over acted, over everything really.....
But I was mainly talking about the other Maltese entries like Vodka, I do, To dream again, etc....
But I love the Maltese and really do hope that they wil get to the final again. As Eurovision is so popular in Malta.
Marc,
I do not agree with you on this: "Vertigo", Malta 2007 was and still is a very strong, original and beautiful song. Ithad also a full orchestration and a lot of sounds in its instrumental part. A very good friend of mine who is a classical musician(and he does not think very highly on the esc songs normally), he told me this, after i played it to him. But when I played him the live version of Olivia in the semis, he closed his ears and he lauphed a lot. I do not know what this means...Anyway I love vertigo, it is one of my best esc songs ever and i liked the staging of the song too
Please Malta after a few serious disasters, give us something good. I do not talk about the performers because they were great but the songs are really crap.
