Albania: Final dates set - Olta and Anjeza back?

It seems that the Albanian song will be the once more the first one to be made known as the country's final has been set as early as the 21st December. Popular Albanian names and Eurostars are tipped to return to the Festivali i Kenges this year, among them Anjeza Shahini, Olta Boka and Elsa Lila.

As it was confirmed to the Albanian media by Pirro Cako, the artistic director of Festivali I Kėnges, the festival whose winner traditionally represents the country in the Eurovision Song Contest, will take place on 19 (first semi), 20 (second semi) and 21 December (final). The deadline for the submission of the songs was 18 October.

The festival organisers together with the Albanian broadcaster are exploring new possibilities regarding this year's format but nothing has been finalised yet. It is quite possible that we may be seeing many familiar names competing such as the country's first entrant ever, Anjeza Shahini, who claimed she was contacted by many composers and said she would enter the competition if offered a good song. Olta Boka, who represented Albania this year in Belgrade, confirmed to Panorama earlier that she is competing once more with a song by the same creators of Zemrën e lamë peng, which placed 16th. Olta is currently working on her first album. Finally, Elsa Lila, who has already won the festival twice and hosted it last year together with Pirro Cako is also tipped to be making a comeback after 11 years.

With very special thanks to Totti Alba for the report.

why do you say that the festival dates will be between the 18 and 19 if the final will be in a later date? or is the final doesn't count ?

As far as I know, Florian (and many others) is correct - places are only separated IF necessary for qualification purposes, or winning. Therefore officially they are both 16th. If you want to separate them, go ahead. 16th or 17th place really isn't worth fighting for is it?

I've lost interest in this subject. Everyone claims something different.
I've checked some sources now... as far as I understood it, Albania and Spain are both 16th, it's a tie. A tie is only relevant when it's about first place.
Yes, technically, Albania is 17th cos more countries voted for Spain, but as it's not about first place, Albania and Spain are both 16th (most pages listed it like that).
End of story!

i dunno whats all this debating about albanias position.. the rules state that it is only to be used to decide the winner or the automatic qualifier in 10th position ... albana and spain are both 16th get over it lol -.-

albania and spain are both 16th!

Albania is 17th.

First it's the amount of votes received.

Then it's the number of 12, 10 and so on. :)

Read the current rules Florian.

Rules since 2004 have changed so Albania is 17th!!!!!

@Florian...
you are right ... Carola wan because she did the same amount of 12 points as Amina did, and Carola did more times 10 points.
So, Albania got the 16th position .... she deserved much higher than that.

I think Anjeza was best Albanian entry so far. Olta was not bad at all, but Anjeza was way better.

Aldo I don't like much comebacks in ESC I wouldn't mind Anjeza to enter again with good song...

Spain came 2008 16th and Albania came 17th, because Spain became points from more countries in total than Albania!

Oh come on...they surley have some other singers...not only Anjeza and Olta...

obviously, on the scoreboard they organise the countries so it looks like there is no draw, but officially, they are tied

so spain and albania both came 16th, and poland, germany and the uk all came last

Hope Anjeza gets a great song as The Image Of You, which is my favourite Albanian entry of all time. It's nica to see Olta trying again, her song this year was great (my second favourite entry from Albania) she has a great voice and she's so cute!

Good luck to Albania!!

according to diggiloo thrush
Isn't it so that when there's a tie, the country that received votes from more countries ends up higher?
Let's have a look at what the official rules say:

"Should there be a tie for first place in the final, the winner shall be the song which has obtained points from the highest number of countries. If the tying songs received votes from the same number of countries, then the highest number of 12-point scores shall be decisive. If the winner cannot be determined by this procedure, then the number of times ten points have been awarded shall be the deciding factor; if necessary, this method shall continue until account has been taken of the number of times one point has been awarded. The same method shall be applied if there is a tie for position number ten in the semi-final."

Now it's clearly stated that this "rule for ties" only should be used to decide the winner and to decide 10th position in the semi final when there's an ex aequo with 11th position. The rules don't say anything about ex aequo's for the other positions, so they just end up in the same position.

euro sheep what not-nice albanians have u seen on esctoday? lol there are hardly any albanians at all.. the only ones who have posted in this article so far are me, black magic and totti alba.. and we're all nice =) .. most of the time... lol

i would be glad to see elsa lila, anjeza shahini or juliana pasha at eurovision, all three are great singers and would not enter unless they were sure they had a great song

from the albanian music industry in general, i would love to see Mira Konci win FiK again... she has won twice already, and gotten numerous 2nd and 3rd place several times in the 90's... she still has her voice and would bring something unique to eurovision.... even if she doesnt do great at eurovision i still wanna see her win FiK again and add another victory to her impressive record, shes one of my all-time favourite singers =)

Hmm, I think it's not suitable for an artist to participate for two consecutive years.
Anyway, I love comebacks in Eurovision (given that I like the artist of course) but there should be at least one year between first and second participation in Eurovision.

I bet you that some of the same people who are "tired of seeing the same artists at Melodifestivalen" are the same ones who want to see Olta and Anjeza back - can you say 'hypocrisy'? :P

I'm afraid that Mariza Ikonomi won't come back this year to Festivali i Këngës, she has tried so many times... damn jury! She always brings great songs, Ku Është Dashuria, Mall I Tretur (one of the most misunderstood entries in Këngës)...

Rovena Dilo and Teuta Kurti are great deals, too.

How embarassing for me :S
Seems like I got confused with things.
I thought about that Carola- Amina incident and thought the same would count for Olta but I remember now- the amount of countries voting is the decisive point. Sorry!
