Fans arrange after party

Finland: Ticket sales start for national final

Tickets sales for the Finnish national final, to be held in Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre TESC on January 31st, 2009, will commence this Saturday. Ticket prices range from 20 EUR (standing) to 40 EUR. There will also be a fan organised after party in a central Tampere night club after the live show. Finland will take part in Eurovision Song Contest, arranged in Moscow in May, for the 43rd time.

The tickets for the TESC Leonardo Hall will be available via www.lippu.fi from Saturday 1st November. Invitations have also gone out on Facebook for the traditional after party organised by local fans. It will take place at night club Klubi at the Old Customs House built in 1901, in central Tampere. The party will go until 4 am and music will be provided by popular local Djs Miik and Catarina.

Saturday 1st November is also the deadline of the submission of all the 12 songs competing to be the Finnish Eurovision entry for 2009. The exact details have been kept secret, but Jari Sillanpää, who already sang for Finland in Istanbul in 2004, has revealed to the website Schlagerblog that he has been considering a powerful ballad in slavic style, composed by Petri Laaksonen, amongst others. Mr. Laaksonen won the Finnish national final in 1985 as a 22-year old student with Eläköön elämä. He also composed the 1987 Finnish entry Sata salamaa. He came third in the Finnish selection three times in 1988, 1989 and 1990. He returned to Euroviisut in 2000, when his song Oot voimani mun was the runner-up, but went on to win the hearts of fans across Europe by winning the annual OGAE Second Chance Song Contest that year.

Among other favourites in media speculations and polls have been Kwan, who has experienced some international success already and veteran rocker Remu. The songs are decided in close co-operation with broadcaster YLE and the participating record companies. The final decisions of the songs selected will be made public by YLE first in December.

The Finnish national finals start already on January 9th, when the first of the three heats is televised from YLE studios in Tampere. The shows will be hosted once again by Jaana Pelkonen and Mikko 'Peltsi' Peltola like last year. Ms. Pelkonen has also been recently in the news, when she took part in the Finnish local elections last weekend. She was elected to Helsinki City Council by 3450 votes, which is the 15th highest number of votes in the whole country. She was also the highest ranking celebrity amongst the candidates for local councillors. She represents the National Coalition Party, Kokoomus.

cpbija what do you mean by "something else" ? I don't mind any type of music as long as it's good. And obviously Finland's rock is da bomb. So I wouldn't mind another round of it!

40 EUR is too much for NF. ESC fina ticketsl in Belgrade were cheaper.

I bet Finland will chose either Tapani Kansi or Jari Silanpää. The other candidates are too weak or completely unknown.
