Song & performance of the year

esctoday.com awards 2008: Your nominations (1)

Now it's time for you to determine the nominations for the 2008 esctoday.com awards in the first two categories: Song of the year and Performance of the year. As announced yesterday, you, the readers, can take part in the nomination process for the annual awards for the first time.

Song of the year

This can easily be called the top category. Like in 2006 and 2007, the songs that finished in the top five of the Eurovision Song Contest final are directly qualified: Believe from Russia, Shady Lady from Ukraine, Secret combination from Greece, Qele qele from Armenia and Hold on be strong from Norway. Another three songs will be added to the nominees. In 2006, the award was won by the Romanian entry Tornerò which "only" finished 4th in the actual contest. Last year, however, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest was also voted Song of year - Molitva from Serbia.

More songs than ever took part in 2008, no less than 43 which should not make the choice any easier. There was comedy, supposed comedy and involuntary comedy, classic Europop, dramatic Ballads, simple Ballads and rock songs. So use your vote wisely!

Performance of the year

In 2006, Tina Karol from Ukraine, who finished 7th, won the award for her performance of Show me your love. Last year, the award again went to Ukraine, this time for Verka Serduchka and the shrill performance of Dancing lasha tumbai.

The 2008 contest saw not only singers and dancers on stage but also musicians, an ice-skater, knitting brides, pirates, angels and devils, an oversized book with an oversized heart, clotheslines, a couch, a teddy bear and some things probably no one could ever explain. Now it's up to you to decide which of the performances worked the best on stage. Please note that there will be also awards for Best female vocal performance and Best male vocal performance

  • Vote for the nominees for Performance of the year here.
