New single and album

Greece: Anna Vissi back to business

The Greek Cypriot super star Anna Vissi, who participated 3 times in the Eurovision Song Contest, in 1980 for Greece, 1982 for Cyprus and 2006 for Greece again, is about to release a new single and a brand new album. After two and a half years of total absence from the show business, she has just presented her brand new video clip and a new song. The song is called To parelthon mu(My past) and it is featured in the original soundtrack of a new Greek movie Bank Bang. Yesterday she talked exclusively about her projects to come to Themis Giorgadas, a famous presenter of the Greek music channel Mad TV

Anna talked about her long awaited new album, which will be released in November this year. She said, that the album is almost ready, 4 tracks are still in the production stage. This album has been entirely produced in Los Angeles with the collaboration of some very famous producers such as Pat Leonard, Glen Ballard and Greg Ladanyi and it will include Greek and English tracks. Anna said, that the sound of her new cd will be in the style of the group Evanesence. The title of the album remains still unknown, since no final decision has been taken about it.

As to her long absence after her participation in the 2006 Eurovision Contest until today, Anna said, that she “was recharging her batteries” with new songs.

Anna also confirmed that in February 2009 she is going to give live shows on a big concert hall in Athens, the Athinon Arena. She also seemed very positive towards doing a live appearance on the Mad Video Music Awards 2009, a very successful annual TV show of Mad TV with very high viewing figures and live shows from big Greek pop stars and some international guests as well.

You can watch the new video clip of Anna Vissi here.

And when Renars and Marie were joking during the commercial break Terry said "This is knockabout comedy at its very best" :)

The 2006 contest was one in which Wogan was at his best in my opinion. His comments during the recap for the voting is one thing I always remember from that year. Especially what he said about the Israeli entry! And when he implored ...why don't you sing along!? in the Croatian entry.

"favouring the tight trousers, which are a welcome feature here in Riga" - lol!
First song and a very good one too . . . well by eurovision standards" - That does make you wonder whether sometimes he does see some good music in eurovision, but just doesn't want to admit it ;)
And I think I would be as happy as him aswell when Turkey won, all inclusive holiday to Istanbul paid for by the beeb, and getting paid £150,000 for 3 hours work, not bad at all ;)

Oh yeah, he said the same thing about France that year as well!!! :P Here are some of my favourite Terry moments:

> The introduction to Iceland 2003: http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=koHRAFE8Wok

> His rejoicing at leaving the Baltic coast behind in 2003 and going to Turkey: http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=YcynMA1mdPo

Euro Sheep
lol, isn't eurobee cute?!
I also have lots of "Terry quotes" that stick with me! :P My favourite is when, during the recap of songs in 2006, the spanish song came on and he said "spain really don't care anymore do they!" :D And you have to admit, with a song like "bloody mary", its not surprise he said that :)

Greekboy
I see, I think its a similar situation for most of the bloc-voting. Although diaspora always plays a big part aswell ;) I suppose its sort of the same for the UK and Ireland, we always exchange 8's because we sort of like each others songs naturally. I can't remember the last time i've seriously disliked an Irish song, maybe its just normal to like your neighbours songs more ;)

I think Sir Terry said it best, when in 2005 he questioned: "Do you ever get the feeling you're watching the same show every year?" After Cyprus had given 12 to Greece :D that quote has always stuck with me! And nice EuroBee!

Greekboy0522
Thanks for the info and for spelling my name right!

Mina
No way is Sakis going to be a daddy! Aww, that's so cute!!! :D Best wishes to him and his family!

@Jonny K.,

Most times, people in Greece and Cyprus don't vote the song becuase its just Greece or Cyprus. They vote because they know the singer, and the song. The Greek and Cypriot music industry is virtually the same. Cypriot artists are mostly based out of Athens, as almost all the labels are Greek. The language is the same too. So the people of both countries know the artists equaly, and the songs get airplay on each others radios equally too. Even songs from Greece and Cyprus other people and countries see as "crappy", end up being voted by Greece and Cyprus becuase they have usually gotten massive radio airplay/promotion in both countries, and they know the aritsts well.

Now people from different European countries can't really understand this or don't want to see it. So they say other stuff. Is it right? I dont know. But usually they vote because they are familiar with the songs and singers and NOT because it is a particular country.

Congrats to Sakis :) Wasn't Vicky Leandros born in Corfu too ?

Btw sort of off topic. . .

""Cyprus and Greece are commonly accused of favouring each other and of all the countries, statistics suggest they are the most likely to vote for each other. Wogan seemed to sum it up when Cyprus awarded Greece 12 points in last year's contest. 'Over the years people say this is ludicrous [...] but still they do it. They just don't care.' ""

lolllll!! :D "They just don't care", I just read this here - http://news.bbc.co.u(...)magazine/7408216.stm

This got me wondering, what do people in Greece/Cyprus think of the whole Greece-Cyprus voting affair? :D

"LOL! No, he doesn't, he's 100% Greek..from Corfu "
Thats what you think . . . . I always thought he seemed very Half Greek-Half Turmenistani . . . lol

Maybe Sakis has some kind of half nationality we don't know about!

LOL! No, he doesn't, he's 100% Greek..from Corfu :P

Euro Sheep
I just downloaded "Welcome to the party", I didn't realise that song was the song used in the opening of the 2006 semi final! :) I assumed that was some eurovision song :D You're right, it is an amazing song! :D

GreekBoy
Aaah I see thanks for clearing that up, I didn't know part of "pump it" was a cover :D Well both songs are great ;)

@Jonny K.
That is the classic Greek song "Misirlou". Black Eyed Peas use it as a sample in their song, but in reality the song is from 1927! lol. Vissi sang it, along with "Eisai" at the closing ceremony of the Olympics.

@ Euro Sheep a.k.a. SexyWool
Yes. "To Parelthon Mou" is a single off of the movie's soundtrack, and will be just a bonus song on Vissi's new album. The real first single from Vissi's new album will come out prob. by the end of November.

Thanks for the link! I think her performance was probably during the party which takes place after the closing/opening ceremonies, one of the 2! The Beeb never show the whole thing for some reason :P

Greekboy0522
So, is "To Parelthon Mou" to Anna's album like "To Fili Tis Zois" was to Helena's album?

Euros 'n' Sheep [52112]

It took a while for me to see "Everything" as more than just an ordinary ballad...now, it's the reason why I have to review my points for 2006!!!

I love her performance so much it hurts sometimes especially when I sing along!!! :P :D

I downloaded her song from the 2006 Greek selection "Welcome To The Party", it's just such a mint choon!!! Perfect party anthem - listen to it ASAP if you haven't already!

oh urban trad

since you don't have thinking ability let me make it very easy for you to understand.

My point is that What Anna vissi achieved through eurovision is nothing compare to her lovely voice and experience in singing, her result in eurovision didn't suit her at all.

Btw I just found this performance by Anna at the Olympics in Athens :D Not quite sure where or when it was in/at the Olympics, but its a good performance (even if the song does sound suspiciously like Black Eyed Peas "Pump it" :P :D

Cool! Anna Vissi is back! Why doesn't she use her new material and represent Cyprus i Moscow? ;)
It would be awesome to have a duel between Sakis Rouvas and Anna Vissi ;)

@Akis GREECE:

Anna said in her interview that "To Parelthon Mou" is not her comeback. And that her new album is her true comeback. To Parelthon Mou is just a soundtrack song. It will be a bonus on her cd.
