Internal selection?

Poland: Eurovision preselection to be announced soon

According to OGAE Poland, TVP, a final statement from TVP with details about the way of choosing the song to participate at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest is expected by mid November. TVP were considering withdrawing from the competition unless changes were made to the voting system.

Aneta Wrona, the spokesperson for TVP confirmed some few weeks ago, that TVP was expecting the new rules for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in order to take a final decision on the Polish participation in the next contest. As esctoday.com reported in September 2008, TVP were keen to make the voting procedure more objective and take more consideration of the artistic value of each entry.

OGAE Poland now reports that the new rules introduced by the EBU for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest have partly satisfied the position of the TVP, and plans to select the next Polish entry in the competition are now underway. Due to lack of time, TVP could opt for an internal selection this year. Names being touted so far include Patrycja Markowska, Maria Sadowska, Ania Dąbrowska, Hania Stach, Lidia Kopania, Iwona Węgrowska and Iza Lach.

Poland has participated at every Eurovision Song Contest since 1994 except for 2000 and 2002. Its best place up to date was it's debut year, taking second place with the song To nie ja performed by Edyta Gorniak. After having competed three years only in the semi final in 2005, 2006 and 2007, Poland managed, in the 2008 Contest, to reach the final with the song For life performed by Isis Gee, which got 14 points and finished second from the bottom. Poland enjoyed a very big success in the second edition of the Eurovision Dance Contest though. Actor Marcin Mroczek and professional dancer Edyta Herbus, Poland’s dancing couple in the contest held in Glasgow on the 16th September, managed to finish first among the 14 participating countries.

@ Iraz

I've read it too. I think it depends on intentions of RAI of participating or not. Certainly, if Italy would take the place of San Marino it would be great...but it's difficult.
However, I'm worried about Hungary because I loved their entries and I'd be disappointed if MTV withdraws.

Good luck to Poland !
"To nie ja" is my favourite Polish entry ;)

Good luck Poland!

First of all...nice to get the proof that they indeed will take part. There were some bad rumours about withdrawals. No idea who made those rumours.

I think Poland is the country with the best national finals! :) Hmm...as long as they don't include banal cheesy crap like "viva la musica" (a typical KØH song...hardly a compliment!). They have had lots of "credible" songs in their finals. lots of rock, indie, dance and rnb.

When it comes to their entries. I like most the songs from 95-98 (a golden period) - but 94 is quite boring and very overrated. I also like their songs from 06 and 04. It was probably their turn to reach the final this year. After so many near misses.

I did not like Poland this year and thought she did not really deserved th final but I do like quite a few Polish entries. My absolute favorite must be 1997, Anna Maria Jopek with "Ale jestem", great song, undervalued. The first Polish entry "To nie ja" was awesome and so much better than the winner that year. I also liked both Ich Troje entries, but first one "Keine grenzen", I prefer. So well done Poland and please come back.

I hope Poland still will take part but they really need to change their tactics.

The quality of their pre-selection have been really low so I would consider that they should choose an act and song internally instead and really put a thought into it.

Also, for some odd reason they have been very afraid to sing in Polish and something with a Polish touch to it, I think they should not be afraid of this and send something genuine for once and not just some wannabe US song because they think that is what Europe wanna hear. It's would have been ok if they would have come up with something good but so far it hasn't been very good.

I wan't something good in Polish like they had during the 90's. The 00's have not been a good decade for Poland in ESC.

Send something composed by Piotr Rubik sang by some good (preferably female singer). Something like "Psalm dla ciebie" would be amazing for Poland.

It seems Poland will be the 39th confirmed country. It's only missing Armenia (it will be 99% sure), Hungary, Montenegro and San Marino.
I hope Hungary will be too but i'm not very optimistic...

Poland has no big friends, so they have to count on the juries...

Margo last year was great, I would like to hear a song in Polish again...

TVP will tell us till November, 15 if they take part in. Decision on participation is not taken yet, but if it is a positive one TVP may choose internally as the most probably option.
And one more thing. Since 1994 Poland was absent twice in the contest in 2000 and 2002.

For Life was an absolutely beautiful song but I don't think Isis quite pulled it off live...still they made it through the semis. I think the performance at least deserved to be out of the bottom 5 though, same as the UK, and Germany maybe should have scraped out.

Tbh I think Poland isn't doing too badly at the moment ;) Yes they finished joint last this year, but reaching the final was a massive achievement, and winning EDC is certainly a good thing! :D

I dont mind who they send just please avoid the guy from 2005 :P (Send the Jet Set again just for a laugh, actually I do listen to "time to party" every now and again, I know . . . shame on me!)

Good luck Poland
