France: Isabelle Aubret joins successful live retro show
The Age tendre et têtes de bois live show, advertised as the Tour of the Idols has been successfully presented to a wide audience for three years now and after the big success it enjoyed it will go on for at leat another year. In this live show Eurovision artists such as François Deguelt (Monaco 1960 and 1962) , Michèle Torr (Luxembourg 1966 and Monaco 1977), Marie Myriam (France 1977, winner) and more recently Patrik Juvet (Switzerland 1973) have joined some other very popular stars like Demis Roussos, Gille Dreu, Frank Alamo to sing on the same stage. Some of the songs together with live recordings of the show have been already officially released on CD and DVD. One of the new artists to join team for the next tour will be Isabelle Aubret.
This very talented singer and songwriter has her own history with the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1961, already an orchestra singer and holding some distinctions and an award she takes part in the French National Final with the song Le gars de n'importe où and she finishes second. In 1962 she gets the ticket to represent France in the Contest with the song Un premier amour and she wins the first price. She returns to the Eurovision Song Contest once more in 1968 with the song La source, this time she finishes third. Some forty years after this contest and on the alleged scandal of Franco having preorganised the win for Spain back then ,Isabelle has said that “I was the one to deserve victory, if those cheatings didn’t occur”. In 1970 she competes once more in the French National Final with the song Oliver, Olivia finishing again second. She makes another effort in 1976 with the song Je te connais déjà, but this time she comes fore last. Last time she tries to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest is in 1983. Isabelle sings the rather patriotic coloured song France France and she finishes third.
In her forty years of singing career, Isabelle Aubret has enjoyed some other successes besides winning the Eurovision Song Contest. She has closely collaborated with some of the greatest French singers, composers and artists: Jean Ferrat, Jacques Brel, Adamo, Alain Bashung, Serge Gainsburg and others. She has won several prizes and awards like The Best Singer Award at the Tokyo Music Festival in 1976 and the Légion d'Honneur awarded to her in 1992 from Président Mitterrand personally. She has recorded numerous personal albums, the most recent one in 2006, and she has toured in many European countries, in Japan, Canada, Morocco and the former USSR.

"La source" is indeed a song with very poetic lyrics, inspired by a Medieval Swedish tale about a young girl, who's been raped by three men in the wood, where she's been transformed into a source. this is the theme of Ingmar Bergman's movie "Jungfrukallan". "Un premier amour" is also a very sensitive song. Isabelle Aubret, what a fine artist!!!
Great singer , and so beautiful songs , Un Premier Amour is so special for me ...
She visited Warsaw in Octoboer indeed where she gave two concerts. Years have passed, but Isabelle Aubret remains the same elegant and talented artist. I saw one of these two concerts and I was really delighted.
I never really cared for Un Premier Amour but the live version at the ESC posted above is much better than the recorded version. Oh for the live orchestras to return!
La source: Best and most poetical lyrics in more than 50 years of ESC!
La source is an evergreen and in my top 10 of all times.....Exquisite
Er, I think Marie Myriam won in 1977, not 1997...lol
(I meant the original video from 1968, not the one from a recent concert.)
I agree that she was the one who deserved victory in 1968 with La source - I haven't seen a video of the live performance until this year, and I was totally amazed. A great song, really unusual and beautiful lyrics, and maybe the best overall performance at the ESC.
I missed her concert while she was performing in my region in June, too bad, she's a great artist!
