NOS to look for new Eurovision entrant?

Netherlands: Joling leaves De Toppers!

What was reported earlier this week as a possibility has been confirmed by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf this morning. That is that Gerard Joling is no more part of De Toppers indeed. ' No more concerts, no docusoap and no Eurovision Song Contest' he states. It seems that Dutch broadcaster NOS may have to start its earch for another artist to represent The Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.

In the meantime NOS director Gerard Dielessen made a statement as well: 'We will see what happens. If it's really true and irreversible, we will start looking for another artist as soon as possible. We made a choice for De Toppers, and that means all three of them or none of them. However, Gerard needs to be contacted first to see if he's 100% sure about his withdrawal.'

The manager of De Toppers, Benno de Leeuw, will contact the singers first thing Monday morning. De Leeuw, who was just released from hospital, wants to do an ultimate attempt to see if there's still anything to be saved.

Last Friday, the issue between Gerard Joling and Gordon escalated. Gerard read out on TV  an sms he received from Gordon who accused Gerard of being indecent and mean by throwing the internal troubles into publicity. In reaction to this, Gerard already threatened to write his discharge letter to NOS and TROS.

Public broadcaster TROS, who wanted to make the docusoap and who's responsible for the national final, hopes that Gordon and Gerard can find a solution. 'We are in the middle of all this; we still believe everything will be solved. The story will be continued.'

esctoday.com will follow the announced meetings planned for tomorrow with huge interest and we will bring you the latest news upon the break up as soon as possible.

Another update: Rene and Gordon are looking for someone else to sing with.
NOS/TROS would be totally crazy to continue with anyone of these.

WS, Waw that would be good news..... But to be honest, although I absolutey adore Marco Borsato, he wouldn't be suitable for Eurovision either. Sorry that I'm so negative but he I follow the contest over 30 years and Netherlands sent so many good artists, with for the last 20 years not very good results. We just have to admit that we had our time and now it's time for the other part of Europe.... Sad but true.

Latest news in this soap. Gerard has left the country. No joke, really. He has left the Netherlands. Let's hope a ticket to the tropics, let us pray he finds his Shangri La.

=====
Borsato has been thinking of participating at the ESC at the beginning of his career but little is left of his warm feelings for the event. He agrees we have to send the best but that is only possible when there is an international field of singers with a high status. At the moment the ESC is too much a contest of subcultures

Marco Borsato has said several times that he does not want to go to the ESC especially when it is staged like now.

Off course the Netherlands can do better but it's just the case of finding artists still willing to do it,... representing a country you know has no chance in hell, is not an easy thing to do. But he good luck Netherlands and I still believe this is once again a storm in a glas of water.... Or in other words, Geraldine Joling begging for extra attention....

I wasn't a fan of the idea to send the toppers anyway. Send Ilse de Lange, Anouk, Kane, Within Temptation (or Armin van Buren with Sharon ;)) or or or..... we can do sooooooo much better then the Toppers. call it off and start all over. please!!

If Dutch TV wants some Eurovision celebrity, why not Ruth Jacott + Humphrey Campbell ?

I am sorry for the problems they have, but I think the Netherlands can do much better than De Toppers.

Well it's still not too late for Annie De Rooy... aka Paul de Leeuw.... with her little helmet singing about her little worm she found in her salad but it turned into a huge snake.... so funny.....

I seems the "docusoap" is well in the running.

Why not send The Triple 10-ers instead ...?

@Bart W - not if she sings in spanish! It would make no sense.

@ Jan

I think most of us realise that we have very little chance of getting who we want, but still, we hope!

This is all very predictable,....2 queens on 1 trone is just not possible. Wanna bet at the end, no problem and Geraldine will still be there in Moscow... Those two adore the drama.... They should have sung Denmark's "I'm your drama queen tonight",... to be continued... they will fight their way through this whole Eurosong adventure to end up very bitter not getting to the final..... The Toppers, .... the Floppers

NOS is waiting for a statement from the management of "De Toppers" on Monday and Tuesday.
I do not think that Anouk wants to be the second choice after 'De Toppers". It is also short time.
Why do people think all kind of Dutch artists want to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. The sentiments towards the contest are extremely negative in the Netherlands. If 'De Toppers" withdraw NOS has a difficlult task in finding an artist at such short notice.

Jonny
I can't say. I liked "No dream impossible" but Nanne is a good singer and "Men" is rather catchy. Even if Sweden would have given many points to The UK I think our 12 points would still have gone to Greece :)
