Kate Ryan wins World Music Award
Kate Ryan is not the first Eurovision Song Contest entrant who won this award: it was previously received by Lara Fabian, who represented Luxembourg in 1988. Kate Ryan's success is mainly based on her hit Ella elle l'a, a cover version of the France Gall song, and the album Free. During the award ceremony, she shared the stage with Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Akon, Kid Rock, Estelle, The Script, Solange, Laurent Wolf, Anastacia, Madcon and Philip Kirkorov, another former Eurovision Song Contest entrant.
Kate Ryan finished 12th in the semi final of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with Je t'adore, thus not reaching the final. Lara Fabian finished 5th for Luxembourg in 1988 with Croire while Philip Kirkorov achived the 17th place with Kolibelnaya dlya vulkana in the 1995 contest representing Russia. He also composed the Belarussian entry in 2007 and the Ukrainian entry in 2008.

She's the best-selling BeNeLux artist worldwide. That means she sells a lot in European countries, Canada, South-America and a few years ago South-Africa.
Best selling artist of the Benelux... lol, right (when you count the free singles along that is). Even though I'm everything but a fan of this woman, she seems popular in Sweden, Spain and Russia lately (don't ask me why).
She won the award... so I congratulate her for it... and silently hope this hype vanishes as soon as it came without landing Ireland first.
Hmm.....
Best "selling"?
I just read somewhere else on this site that one of her singles was distributed in a newspaper as a gift to the readers, thus managing to "sell" 15.000 copies in one day.
Seems like there´s something weird going on in the states of BeNeLux...
Well done Kate, I love your music. I have the album "Free" & i personally think that every song on it is excellent. It's very rare to find an album & you like every song on it. Very rare!!
Does anyone know when the World Music Awards will be shown in the UK & Ireland or have they been shown already?
Would love to see her performance.

Keith,
Madcon have been mentioned as one of the posible entrants for 09 MGP. I think it is mostly rumours, but it will be interesting to see..
Don't think so Keith.... How many real Luxemburgish artist did ever perform for Luxembourg anyway ? Defenitely not more than 5.....
Well done, Kate!!! You deserve it!
Congrats
"Elle Ella la" and "tonight we ride" are both great songs
Kate was sharing the stage with Madcon, another great Norwegian band, currently popular all over the world with their rendition of "Beggin'". Perhaps we should try to get them to represent Norway next year?
And by the way, has the award for BeNeLux ever gone to an artist from Luxembourg? Not including Belgian or French singers who happen to have represented Luxembourg (like Lara Fabian).
I'm not a big fan, but well done Kate.... in these difficult times to sell all those records is a thing to be proud of....
Congrats Kate. Still my fave from 2006.
