Israel: Teapacks splitting up

The band Teapacks that represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 has announced today that they are splitting up. The group has been active for twenty years, released a series of succesful albums and received several awards.

The group formed in 1988 in the southern town of Sderot and shot to fame in 1992 with their first album. Since then the group had seven albums, a long string of hits and had won the title of Isaraeli band of the year twice, and in 2001 an award for the Song of the year. The group has a huge fan base and is one of the most popular Israeli bands of the last two decades.

In 2007 they were chosen internally to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest. In the national final, they presented four songs and Push the button was chosen to be performed in Helsinki.  However, the song hardly received any airplay and was also no success in the competition: Teapacks finished 24th in the semi final with only 17 points, thus not reaching the final.

Many thanks to Zohar Rashit for his contribution.

Sorry to hear that. In Helsinki they were really crazy, in a good way... :) Though I can believe that the entry wasn't typical for them.

Teapacks (tipex) are one of the music stones in Israel.
pitty they split but the songs of tipex will allways stay a legacy.

Eurovision song contest song they sang was the worst song in the group repertuar.
they made much better music then push the button.

Shame, I thought they were awesome! :D I mean, they weren't qualifying standard or anything, but they were great! :)

Probably not Israel's finest 3 minutes though lol ;)

Push The Button does not represent the true TIPEX. Although that was the direction they were moving to at the time, but their true spirit was the 90ies hits, and earlier this decade. Nobody in Israel actually knows the song Push The Button (except for the title), as for many many of their others songs, Israelies will still be singing them in twenty years. They will be missed very much in Israel.

Another joke says they break up so that in 5 years they can make a comeback concert and pay off any debt at the time je je je

I certainly won't miss them. The stuff they did in 2007 was crud of the lowest order. Israel can do so much better than that.
