Politician respect for Lloyd-Webber

Putin gives Eurovision vote to UK

Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber recently travelled to Russia to pay Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin a visit in Moscow, host city of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. They met to discuss certain aspects of concern about the competition, among them the poor results of the United Kingdom's entries in past few years.

With Lord Andrew being responsible for the next Eurovision Song Contest entry from the United Kingdom, the British broadcaster is hoping to turn things around and is putting in a much increased amount of programming in the hope of gaining a good result in Moscow.

Even though he neither has written a song for the next representative of the United Kingdom or selected the performer at this point, Lloyd Webber already managed to gain the support of one of the biggest forces of global politics: Mr Putin has promised to vote for the United Kingdom next May.

However, despite being one of the most powerful politicians, Putin’s vote of course only counts as much as the vote from a normal TV viewer. Nevertheless, Lloyd Webber is pleased with the support and prefers to look at things on the bright side saying "At least we have got one vote from Mr Putin".

THIS POOR LORD IS RIDICULOUS HE SHOULD WORK TO MAKE SOMETHING WELL INSTEAD OF SEARCHING FOR PROMISES OF VOTES THAT WONT REALIZE

although it is very stereotypical to think that Mother Russia still controls the soviet states in a covert way, the idea of the potential re-president Putin may sway some of the old loyalist who still follow mother Russia.

(plus I know it's old hat but I was just playing through some old songs after buying the Congratulations album - but anyone else notice that Dima's song "Believe" has the same Chorus tune to Antique's "Die For You" (Greece - 2001) - Just an idea was Russia's won by subtle plagurism???)

Night Editor,

I don't have a Geography degree from Cambridge... fact! But with your great brain you still don't seem to get much of what's being said in English do you?
I don't care Athens is at the Adriatic or Agean Sea... that's not the point of my post. Point is Malta always looses out on votes (Western and others) for the simple reason they don't seem to belong to either of the regions, blocks or whatever. They're on their own in Eurovision-land... that's what I meant to say in that post... and I merely referred to the Balkan-Adriatic for Malta is an island closer to the Greek region (which I do call Adriatic, even when their capital is located on another shore) than they are to the West.
When I set a post and all you can do is comment on the geography issues rather than on the actual message of it, I reckon I come pretty close to the truth.
Malta has a huge disadvantage in ESC because of its location... that's a fact my friend.

This whole issue about Malta is so worring! For Malta the ESC is so important and on the night the whole island is watching it with crossed fingers! I think there is nothing to be done about the whole issue of neighbouring voting!

Great, now we have politicians endorsing voting for a country rather than a song... I thought we wanted to get away from that!

Mmmmm...I thought that he'd call to vote Georgia, or was it Chechnya?

Gosh, guys, that's really funny to see how brainwashed you are :) Of course everyone in Russia will be send to the jails and labor camps for not voting for United Kingdom, because Putin loves the song.
That's gross that you really think that things are that bad in nowadays Russia :) Noone just pays any damn attention to what Putin likes or not among Russian audience, I assure you :)
But belief in the Stalin-like way of politics in Russia is so trendy among other Europeans these days, come on guys, Russia is just a lil bit less democratic country than yours, and things will change for sure... Free your minds, peeps. Reading such a ridiculous comments on and on makes me feel really sorry for you and your political knowlege :)

At least they did when I gained my Geography degree from Cambridge University.

@ Murieanne: Athens is not on the Adriatic, it's on the Aegean, and the Baltic begins much further west than Riga so I'd say your Google Earth's let you down, pet.

If Andrew Lloyd Webber could put together something that was half as good as this >> http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=ovGFPKZ3lgM
then we'd be laughing... in a good way, not a scooch way =D

The rest of that post I still stand ground for... Malta having the disadvantage of not belonging to either group and therefor losing out on the voting.

Muireanne Bulens [45898]
Tue 18 Nov 2008 13:16:20

Yes, and I revised that in a post after that... before you posted the link.
I meant to say (in that particular post) Malta was near the Adriatic (not in)... my mistake on that one since I'm well aware Malta is IN the Med Sea

Muireanne Bulens

You sad: True. The big disadvantage of Malta is that the island is geographically situated in the Adriatic (so the West won't vote for them unless they have something extremely good), but at the same time Malta is a very Western orientated country (and so the Balkan-Adriatic won't vote for them (much) no matter what they send to ESC). Sad but true.

Benjamin,

Lol... and your point being? We know Malta is in the Med Sea (the article doesn't tell any different does it)?

And about the votes from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (Poland and Finland Baltic???)... you'll have to ask them that... but tendency is the Baltic rather vote for Ireland than the UK (don't ask me why... reverse-diaspora perhaps?)

Muireanne Bulens [45898]
Tue 18 Nov 2008 12:07:06

Night Editor,

Valletta (Malta) - Athens (Greece) = 852 Km (529 miles)
London (UK) - Riga (Latvia) = 1675 Km (1041 miles)

So... I'd say Malta is way nearer (double as near) the Adriatic than the UK will ever be to the Baltic yeah.

Night Editor [45546]
Tue 18 Nov 2008 11:47:50

If Malta is near the Adriatic then the UK must be near the Baltic. Can we have douze points from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland.....? Ta very much.

Ryan,

Fine! Malta is a very distant, in the Med Sea located, Western nation. Doesn't change the fact they're missing out on votes from the West AND the Balkan-Adriatic because of their distant location is it?

im sorry but it is a mediterranean island and thats FACT! its surrounded 100% by the sea, and they are proud of that fact, i would not include them in with the balkan crowd at all!! in fact they vote more for western and northen countries, so please dont say they are geographically in adritaic or nearer it as it makes no sense whatsover

Garry,

You are an angel my friend.... this is indeed the best thing Sir Webber ever wrote. I've seen it 3 times before, with Patti Lupone, Petula Clarke and Elaine Page.... So good..... so dramatic...... excellent stuff

Especially now Italy is out of contest that is. With them back in, I would also say Malta to be Southern European in stead (so in a way, I agree with your remark)

BUT! One Irish to another... isn't it enough to debate with others we also have to discuss amongst each other?

Muireanne Bulens [45898]
Tue 18 Nov 2008 10:07:27

Dear Ryan, I know.

And when you ever hear about a Mediterranean group in ESC make sure to let me know as well. But meanwhile, Malta being situated closer to the Adriatic and the Balkan than to any other ESC-block-region (if you can call all regions that); I therefor count Malta with that Balkan-Adriatic region.

@ muireanna, malta is not in the adriatic, but in the med sea!!

If Malta had so many neighbours and friends, it would had won for 4 times for sure with: Mary Spiteri, Ira Losco and 2 times Chiara.

True. The big disadvantage of Malta is that the island is geographically situated in the Adriatic (so the West won't vote for them unless they have something extremely good), but at the same time Malta is a very Western orientated country (and so the Balkan-Adriatic won't vote for them (much) no matter what they send to ESC).
