BWO, Alacazar, Emilia and SDF confirmed
The first eight Melodifestivalen singers
The first names to be announced are:
Alcazar - Stay The Night
BWO - You're Not Alone
Caroline af Ugglas - Snällä, Snälla
Emilia - You're My World
Jennifer Brown - Never Been Here Before

SVT has yet to announce which of the first artists will compete in which semi finals.
Alcazar and BWO have both finished third in the competition on two previous occasions each. Alcazar took third place with Not a sinner nor a saint and returned to take thrid place again with Alcastar in 2005. BWO also took second place in 2006 with Temple of Love as well as third earlier this year with Lay your love on me. Måns Zelmerlöw finished in third place in 2007 with the hit song Cara Mia, ahead of Sarah Dawn Finer who took fourth place with I remember love.
Emilia will make her Melodifestivalen debut in 2009, eleven years after a global smash hit with the song Big Big World. Jennifer Brown also enters for the first time. The Swedish singer has four successful albums to her name as well as a string of singles successes in the 1990s. She has also become a successful songwriter in her own right.
Lase Lindh entered the competition in 2008, and Caroline af Ugglas returns after making her comepetition debut in 2007. Both will be looking to improve on their previous participation and qualify from their semi final.

ITS REALLY GETTING BORING TO SEE THE SAME NAMES EVERY YEAR mais je veux revoir Linda Bengtzing faire sa jument
Yay BWO are trying again. they should've been sent 2 Belgrade last year, But then again I also don't see Sweden winning in the future as no other country is capable of making great pop music as Sweden (mine included), so they don't vote for them.
It's good 2 c Alcazar & Emilia (C.A.T.D & B.B.W) were both top 20 hits here down under. I am trully excited by Jennifer Brown though heard her music before and she is amazing.
I'm hoping that Agnes, Therese and September are performing this year and that Ace Of Base gets a wildcard if so i'll be in pure pop heaven. Fingers Crossed.
@ Johan
I am sorry if you took offence to my opinion of Las Vegas. It's just a difference in musical taste. I was just pointing out that Sweden sent a non-schlager song that year and it did not do well that year, and that's just a fact, whether you love the song or not.
My Favs.
1. Mans
2. BWO
3. Alcazar
just for knowing them.. it looks like their songs would be amazings.
WALES for SWEDEN to win! What a wonderful and exciting line up! WOW, WOW and an extra WOW! If previous performances are to go by this will be the best melodifestivalen yet! Sanna Nielesen, shriley Clamp, Magnus Carlsson, After Dark, Jil Johnson, Linda Bengtzing will make this perfect! i cant wait!!
Welsh fingers crossed here already for Mans and Alcazar.... Didn't Alcazar have wildcard status in earlier years? Maybe they suffered from Big 4 syndrome... Perhaps this will be their lucky time!
@ Aviva K
Don't talk bad about Las Vegas.. my friend's dad's friend wrote it xD and i think it was too "fresh" for ESC
Very strong names here: Alzacar, BWO, Mans Zelmerlow and Emilia + Markoolio is a wildcard - it's an excellent start!
Good luck Sweden!
@ChrisP: From an international viewpoint. Glamrock.
But in Sweden many Melodifestivalen and Eurovision songs are referred to as schlager and it doesn't have quite the same meaning as overseas. Eurovision is still called Schlagerfestivalen by many people (including media).
Sweden will do well with a good song. I'm not sure in recent times the best song has always won their national final, but the public vote, so it's their own fault! Out of interest, what DO people think The Ark were, if they weren't schlager?
BWO + Alcazar + Måns Zelmerlöw= MUST WATCH
@Down Low, I agree that Martin's and The Ark's songs were not very good and did not do well because of that. The question is: what is really fresh these days? Everyone is trying to be fresh and different, yet the past two winning songs were ballads that I wouldn't qualify as fresh and different. So maybe everyone is trying too hard to be fresh and different and Sweden is not. They will send a song they like to hear, and hope for the best. Not a bad idea since you can never predict what will win - there are too many factors involved.
I am not saying that Sweden should not try to win, I am saying that they don't have that national pressure you see in some countries (yes, mainly Eastern European) where an ESC win is tied into national pride and an economic lift, never mind exposure for tourism. I can't comment on national pride because I am not a citizen of Sweden, but winning ESC is not as crucial to the economy, and being seen as 'winners' on the world stage. That's what I mean when I say Sweden has nothing to prove.
What exactly is "fresh", Down Low? Could you give us an example of your desired freshness?
@ Aviva K
Offcourse Sweden doesn't have to prove themselves, but what's the point of taking part in ESC if you don't bother? Then we could just do like Italy and have our own selection without taking part in ESC.
But now we're in ESC so I think at least we could try.
Martin Stenmark and The Ark are bad examples. Yes, they were not schlager, but they weren't good OR fresh either. Both songs were indeed old-fashion in a way. Also, The Ark won because of the typical "let's vote for the most famous act" thinking since they were indeed the most known act in Melodifestivalen that year.
I think Sweden need to send something FRESH. That is the problem. We either send schlager or we send something that is not schlager, but not fresh or good either.
Mf is its own phenomenon, separate from ESC. The Swedes can't win - if they send traditional schlager, they get labelled as old style. If they send Martin Stenmark with 'Las Vegas' or The Ark, two very un-schlager like songs, they don't do well either.
So why not put on a show that showcases the best of what your country has got, have a big party, and let the ESC voters do what they do. Sweden does not need to prove itself by winning ESC.
Those who complain about the 'same old names' must not be big MF fans. I love MF and I am glad to see the 'same old names' with one or two new ones thrown in. Remember, Mans and Sarah Dawn Finer were not the 'same old names' a few years ago and they did pretty well in MF.
Who says a country has to send a new, fresh artist to ESC in order to win? Does the name Dima Bilan ring any bells?
@ jacob
yes thats why i love MF so much. ive even been to the final twice.
Same old artists as usal.. and we wonder why we never win, or i mean the media.. most of us knows that we will fail again xD
@ Michaell Hilton
Yeah, her first album from '98 was a decent success with offcourse the mega-hit "Big Big World" that topped or peaked high in several European charts.
Then they were kinda turning her to some bubble-gum act in '00 and her second album flopped and the lead single just managed to be top. 20 in Sweden.
Then she came back with a new (according to me very nice) single in late '06 that was her first in Swedish and released her first album in Swedish in '07. That album flopped and I guess she's doing like many other are using Melodifestivalen for, getting her name back out there and making a "real" comeback.
Let's see how that will work out. It's kinda of a win or loose situation. Jessica Folcker is the first that comes to mind that tried that a couple of times and failed every time.
I think the artist that really managed to make a comeback with the help of Melodifestivalen was Lena Philipsson in '04, but many times comebacks doesn't help much.
whoaa emilia's still in business?
@ Stockholm calling
G : son also wrote "incredible" titles such as; Samba Sambero, Idag & Imorgon, Amanda, Ven a bailar comigo... just to name a few.
Can it be more tacky and old-fashion?
@ Stockholm calling
G : son also wrote "incredible"
OMG what happened to U ESC-fans....U are even worse than ESC herself nowadays....thank god we have MF!
Måns wrote the best 2008 Eurovision song imo - "Shine"
Down Low
And who really want to hear another G : son song ever again?
LOL. I listen to one of Gson's songs almost every day "As if tomorrow will never come", a great MF entry from 2005 with Katrina
I think Emilia is the less "Music-for-Swedish-only" of all of them, so she would be the better choice for Europe.
But we know MF has become too local...
I'm utterly happy for Emilia!
