Bosnia & Herzegovina: BHRT opens national selection

BHRT, broadcaster of Bosnia & Herzegovina, have started searching for their entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. Like every year since 2006, the song will be chosen internally and everyone is invited to submit songs until 20th December. The winning song will be presented during a special TV show on 1st March.

The broadcaster states that the compeitition is held "for the purpose of selecting a song of highest international standards to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest". The selection of the singer will take place simultaneously. While the singer(s) have to be from Bosnia & Herzegovina, the composers and authors may be from outside the country.

The song will be presented during a special TV show called BH Eurosong 2009 on Sunday, 1st March. It will be aired on BHT 1 and BHT Sat. More information can be found on the official website bhrt.ba here; the English version of the official rules will be published by the end of the week.

When Bosnia & Herzegovina turned to an internal selection in 2006, Hari Mata Hari achieved the country's best placing so far, a third place. In 2007, Marija Šestić finished 11th and Laka came 10th in Belgrade with his song Pokušaj.

@ Marcus Faber

I love EscToday news because they are reliable and well developed, and this forum is great. But breaking news are usually published before in other websites. I tried to be constructively critical with this fact. However, this page is the best for me also!

@ drusus1

Well, we can speculate: Monaco, Georgia, Austria, Italy or Luxembourg are the main candidates to be the "surprise".

I love BH songs...in fact most of ex-Yugoslav entries. Well, I see they are looking for songs and I always wanted to send a song to Eurovision myself (I have a lot of great tunes!) I wonder if anyone in BH would be interested in any of them and who I could send them to?! can anyone help?! if not for Eurovision then as songs to record, of for any other country for that matter! or if an of the euro fans here would would like to contact me would love to collaborate on writing songs/music anyway! big euro hug to everyone! paul c

I second what Marcus said :D

Btw "Lejla" (I think thats the right spelling! ;)) is my favourite BH entry ever and probably my favourite ever entry from the Balkans :D I don't get why everybody gets so excited over "lane moje" (which is a good song don't get me wrong!) when "lejla" is better imo ;)

Good luck BH :D Send another really great ballad, or a really good pop or rock song, maybe something not ethnic? :) Either way i'm sure they'll give us something good :D

@ Mario Mir

Probably the editors of ESCtoday do have a life beside from this site???
I never saw something like “On ESCtoday you always read the news first” or something like that.
But I think everyone is free trying to do a better job !!!

I am more than happy with this great site !!!

@Little Imp:
Oh, another preselection which can be invaded by Swedish composers.
Jovan should try entering songs again. :P What did he call it? Abba-like with a very Swedish sound. Good stuff. :D

I agree that all BiH entries since 2006 were quality songs, but my favourite is Rijeka bez imena, a very special song which, unfortunately, was to a certain degree damaged by the performance and OMG that I want to be seaweed dress.
Good luck for 2009!

Old news.

EscToday is coming late about actuality. MF news apart, the hot news of today are the confirmation of Hungary as participant (denying strong rumours about withdrawal) and the "surprise" that EBU has in the pre-list of participants closed last weekend.

Be faster, EscToday!!

@Ajdin Mehic

Same here! Bosnia and Herzegovina has been one of my favourite ESC nations. Pokusaj was a great entry as well as the 2006 one. 2007 was the weakest out of all of them, but still very good :D

@Matthew

I couldn't agree with you more. I just love this "internaly" way of picking up songs. BHRT is doing that since 2006 and I think they are doing very great.

I hope for a good uptempo song in 2009 for Bosnia&Herzegovina.

Each Bosnia and Herzegovina entry since 2006 has been really good! BHRT are very good at picking songs.
