Israel: One artist selection for Eurovision 2009

IBA, Israel Broadcasting Authorities, have confirmed on their official Eurovision website that an internal committee of IBA will select it's representative to Moscow 2009, and the public will choose a song through a national final, Kdam-Eurovision.

The selection will be a joint co-operation of IBA Channel One (the usual Eurovision broadcaster), Radio Reshet Gimel (Hebrew music station - IBA-Voice Of Israel who had always worked with close coperation with channel one) and Radio 88FM.

For the national final voting, IBA decided that 60% from the votes will come from a specialized committee, and 40% from popular votes (SMS and Internet).

This one artist National Final method has been used quite a few times before. In 2003 (Lior Narkis finished 19th place), 2004 (David Da'or finished 11th in the semi final, just missing the final) 2007 (Teapacks finished 24th in the semi final) and in 2008 (Boaz Mauda finished 9th place in the final). In 2002 an IBA committee internally chose the song Sarit Hadad will sing (which finished 12th back then).

Rita,
It is more worthwhile for israel to be represented
by skaat then it is for Skaat to be the representative
specially considering the voting of countries to thier
neighbours in the last years.
but Israel will be represented wonderful

The article in Ma'ariv is nonsense which is what we can expect
from Eran Swisa.
There is no connection between the record company and the Esc
his second disk was on hold for a while. but when it will come out
in a few months it will be without a doubt successful just as the
first one if not more.
he has a huge audience and a talent like his not disappear so
easily.
You have nothing to worry about his career.

The committee for selecting a representative did not yet meet even once.
all the names are yet rumores.
If they do choose skaat
and if he agrees
The gain is all ours

*Eurofrirnds?
based on what you claim that
"Marina Maximilian-Bluminwill get nowhere in this contest. She is not the right material".
Ialways get the filling that esc fans, being most gay, prefer the men who simply look good.

By the way,Ma'ariv states today that Ska'at is close to a compremise with the record company and after that will be announced as the Israeli representative...

I ask one question-where was he before he had this big mess with the record company??
His career actualy was on hold for some time now,so now he wants and needs the Esc...he was asked before and refused a few times.
SKA'AT STAY HOME!!!

another name came up is Mosh Ben Ari
one of my best friends is a member of the cumitee to choose the ainger (i will not give his name becose its un-fair).
he told me that one of the hot names included is Mosh Ben-Ari.
i think Mosh is great but only with a song style like "enatzel".
here is the youtube for it

Eurofriend, It's "Shay Gabso" :-)!
Harel Skaat is the right choice, Marina is Ok... but as you said she'll go nowhere!

Marina Maximilian-Bluminwill get nowhere in this contest. She is not the right material. Great singer though.

Miri Mesikahas a truly great & exciting voice; Not so hot on the look side though.

Keren Pelescan not really sing. point blank. I don't care for her songs & style either; never understood the fuss about her.

Maya Buskillahas a voice, but she gives such a slutty feel about her, it would be a crime to send her.

Har'el Ska'attruly has it all: The voice, the look, the TV very friendly touch; With the right song he can get Top-5 easily. But the song is vital.

I also like Shai Gabsuto have a go with an acoustic ballad; He has good looks and can sing
well live.

Yes, Adir, you are right, it's quite impossible to find the "perfect" combination... although this has been achieved by Israel in the past with Shiri Maimon! Great voice, a lot of charisma and a great song.

Do not forget that in Iba there are people who want Marina Maximilian Bloomin but still there is an opposition that insists on citizens who served in the IDF...idiotic,I know. Think about id Dana internatinal wasn't recruited do to her wish to serve as a woman and not as a man..go figure!
Any way Marina has the greatest voice, she knows how to move to ,she's charismatic and above all she wants to represent Israel! She has another advantage :She speaks not just english but Russian aswell! (her name came up in the paper last week)
I am all for her...she is our best choice!

Stephane. the problems you showed can be in every country :-). Harel Skaat has great voice, good performer and the song can be in english and hebrew. Keren peles can write a song .. half hebrew/half english! There is not perfect singer after all!

Israel's 9th place last year and 4th place in Kiev were great achievements in the current format. I doubt it can be achieved again in 2009 without someone with a lot of charisma and a great song. Harel Ska'at is charming, but will that be enough? Miri Mesika and Keren Peles are respected song writers in Israel, but if you don't understand Hebrew, chances are you won't be touched by them. Maya Busqila would be perfect for the gay crowd, but she is an awful person. Choosing her would make me, for once, NOT vote for Israel.

In my opinion, Harel Skaat is the perfect singer for eurovision.
I would like to hear him singing a ballad :)

I like to see and hear Keren Peles or Miri Mesika for Israel next year. Problably not winners but at least good singers in a style I like. Rita would be great too, but no change she will go.

And chag chanukah sameach!

No Johnny K, the right artist is very important, but the mosy important thing is the song, and that's what I'm worried about. Whatws the use of having Sqa'at of Busqila going if they will sing a midiocre song.

It's the best way... Harel Skaat to Moscow... please!

Wise decision, just make sure they chose the right artist :D One-artist selections can produce really good results but first the right artist has to be chosen, otherwise they're doomed :S I know it sounds obvious but its true :D
