France: Patricia Kaas says YES to Eurovision
Patricia Kaas has confirmed for the first time that she is to be the French entrant for this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. The broadcast will take place on Sunday 8th February on France 2's talk show "Vivement Dimanche". esctoday.com was present for the recording of the show yesterday.
Last Monday, French fans were disappointed after the TV talk show "Vie privée, vie publique", presented on France 3 by Mireille Dumas. Patricia Kaas was one of the guests but didn't say anything about the Eurovision Song Contest. Dumas didn't ask the question but the talk show is not a live one. It was recorded days before the broadcasting (if not a few weeks ago) and Kaas' management certainly insisted on avoiding the matter. The conversation focussed on Patricia's career and personal achievements.
Next Sunday, February 8th, "Vivement Dimanche", one of the most popular TV shows since a long time, will have comedian Anne Roumanoff as main guest. Among the other artists to sit on the sofa, Patricia Kaas will be there, to promote both her CD and tour. TV presenter Michel Drucker asks her about whether she will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest and the singer answers "Yes".
esctoday.com expects an official confirmation statement from France Televisions to be made imminently.

Great! I hope juries to vote for her because i don't believe in televoting. Although, you never know. Go France! You got my support
I believe with such powerfull vocals and such immense talent..Ms.Kaas will fare high in Eurovision. I think she is France's hope for better placing and perhaps another French victory.
This one is perfect, especially the huge end of the song:

Or this, pure pleasure

But her songs nowdays are different, and that's good, it will be something different, something for us at this moment
Surely she will surprise as again! SHE'S AWESOME!
Bonne chance a la France! Nice to see that one of the big 4 is sending a big name and obviously want to do well.
Or this one:

She surely is a great artist but I find it quite hard to picture a song by her winning the ESC
It depends on the song. If it's a song like this, I'm sure she could win.

wow they got the best chanson singer at date to sing - I LOVE her!
I really, really think France could FINALLY score high again, not only with the judges but she also has a lot of fans in rest of europe. BEST DECISION OF FRANCE EVER!
thank you Mme Kaas
Lovley! Looking forward to yet another great entry from France.
ESC is gonna be fun this year. Good luck to everyone
dont forget that we have 50-50 this year.
juries will adore her...
i am quite optomistic about france this year.
I understand people are happy cause she's quite popular, but I'm dreading a bad result for France once again. She surely is a great artist but I find it quite hard to picture a song by her winning the ESC.
Good luck to France anyway. Except last year, I like nearly all of their entries
@Morgan,
You'r kidding me.... Patricia is for me the best that could happen this year. Forget the Sakis, Hadise, Chiara's, Andrew Lloyd Webber etc.... I so hope it will be France's yearthis year. The only sad thing is that a quality artist like that need to compete with .... well what can I say. And even worse that those little.... will receive a lot more votes, only because they represent certain countries. I hope I will be wrong. My vote you have, not just because it's FRance but because I absolutely adore Patricia's music. I am so excited.
BTW Patricia is awesome
What wrong about chiara? Okay no one shall be racist but we could critize her because she is obese thats injusticeness
@Christos don't kill our hopes just yet
as a Frenchman the last time I hoped was back in 2002, when Sandrine was one of the faves before the contest and I was satisfied with her being 5th in the televoting era (and the 12 from Finland yay)
Since then I never watched a show thinking "France has a chance to do top 5 if not more" and I never watched a show being excited with French results.. Therefore Patricia is a huge choice for a frenchman, who knows she is HIGHLY popular in France including for younger audiences whatever some of you might think and she is very well known abroad, including in Russia where she made a huge tour very recently.
The thing is, I never think France will win again, but then again.. if you fans keep chanting Patricia's chances, then maybe, just like the very average "Molitva" who had a very very simple live (quite effective) and YET won.. so maybe Patricia can do that.. and we all will enjoy ESC going back to the West!
Thank God for the French!
You won't win, but at least you will give us another strong reason to watch the show!
Axel,
you must mean Maria Menounos. Yes, she's very pretty indeed
Age has nothing to do with quality..... I will see next month Miss Tina Turner 3 times live in London and I am sure that she will still impress and she is almost 70.....
Btw Mina, yesterday I watched that movie the fantastic 4 and guess who was in there, the Greek presenter of the festival in Athens. What's her name again ? Beautiful girl.
i am expecting a strong ballad from her
Keith, I see what you mean now..yes, about the general public you have a point. They showed a video of Chiara singing Angel on a tv show here and someone in the audience said 'she's good to listen to but not to watch'..ofcourse the presenter of the show told her she was being stupid (ok, not in those words) but people are very superficial sometimes..unfortunately.
@Mina, of course I wasn't talking about you!
You've always got a sane, healthy outlook on things and we can always count on you to be fair. Other people unfortunately, and I don't mean only on this site but in the music press and the general public, argue like preschoolers and will use the same imbecile arguments about any singer over 25 years and any country west of Moravia.
They will certainly claim she is too old, the song too dated and that France should try harder next year
Ok, about the song I can't have an opinion because we haven't heard it yet...for all we know it could be dated..lol
But I don't think anyone will care about her age. I mean someone may say that maybe because she's older, she won't appeal to teenagers much but that's an opinion about how well she'll do in esc, not about her as an artist. Personally I believe that if a song is touching and the singer is world class like Patricia, it will touch all ages...but the song counts more for me.
As for France trying harder...they can't do better than Patricia...if the song is good, she will easily win.
Good luck France...finally someone who reminds us of "le jour de gloire" in a sense of France in the good old days...
If she brings a good song ,I will vote "12 points pour la France",i.e my vote, just like I did in 2001..
@Jean-Christophe Breton: And I never said that. But I know from experience that no matter what the song is like, certain people will argue it is too dated, the singer too old, and better try harder next year for any country with Eurovision traditions that date back to before 1993.
I know where mu votes will go to this yera, Vive la France..... 12 points de Grande Bretagne vers la France. I love it, love it, love.... Best singer ever to represent FRance
@ Ramon
I completely agree with you. Due to her huge talent and her popularity in Russia and some other European countries, this is the best possible choice for France, whatever the result. And I feel very confident regarding the song. For sure it will be very good. This piece of news also made may day. Thanx Patricia !
I'm glad such a well-known singer accepted to go for Eurovision. It may increase French interest in the contest. Besides, she was - and still be - one of the most beautiful voices in France. Let's wait for the song now... France is very good at picking wonderful singer but dreadful songs.
@ Keith Timmons, I think there is a misunderstanding here. Patricia Kaas will certainly not sing "Mon Mec A Moi" this year.
