Cyprus' 12 points are decided already. They're heading for Athens.

You really didn't get it, did you.

"Cyprus is casting its votes and give 1-10 points to everyone else currently on the Top 10. When it's time for the big douze points everybody can predict that they will go to Andorra even though there is no DNP connection to speak of between Andorra and Cyprus"

Great song. Expect this to do well on the night. Juries should help stamp out the bloc voting.

I'm trying to like this but I just can't. The studio version is just average, and the live performance doesn't help...

Awww thank you Mina :)

I think perhaps the main problem with the voting may not be free riders and default losers (although I do think that for certain countries it is impossible to win even with a "good song" ;), but the unbearable predictability of the voting. The predictability is not only brought on by DNP voting, it is also heavily promoted by the visual graphics on screen.

After a country has given points to 9 out of 10 countries, those countries will be highlighted in some way on the screen. We can easily see which countries have not been awarded any points yet. Let's say for the sake of argument that Andorra is having a good year and is currently ahead in the voting. Cyprus is casting its votes and give 1-10 points to everyone else currently on the Top 10. When it's time for the big douze points everybody can predict that they will go to Andorra even though there is no DNP connection to speak of between Andorra and Cyprus, simply because this is now the only country on the upper part of the chart which is not highlighted. This kills the excitement and adds to the feeling of predictability which in turn will be blamed on the DNP beneficiaries.

I think the reintroduction of the juries will make the voting less predictable, but I think a lot could be accomplished by simply removing the highlighting from the scoreboard. It would certainly make it a lot harder to predict the voting. Watch one of the finals from the 70s or 80s and you'll see!

It's true what Mina wrote down, we all have our favorites.... and when a song we do not like, gets lots of points.... we are angry and scream murder.... But he who are we to judge really. Me myself I have a love/hate relationship with a few countries (Turkey, Greece and Armania) who are favorites to get lots of diaspora votes.... but he who am I to say that GReece get a top 3 spot only because of that. There must be lots and lots of viewers who do/did and will like these countries for the song and nothing else. So the bottomline is live and let live, everybody is entitled to his/her taste..... Success to everyone and that the best may win....

What's cheap is...songs that fill their performances with gimmicks (let's not elaborate here)

I would agree with this, but sometimes when you have to listen to a cruddy song, gimmicks can help pass the time... I was going to say that entries with gimmicks don't do well, but then I remembered some guy winning with an ice-skater whizzing around him, and girl popping out of a piano a few years ago... that song did well. On second thoughts, maybe that was "tasteful artistic expression"...

This song is ok, nice and happy entry from Ireland.
Last year Dustin was terrible ( sorry ). I really missed Johnny Logan last year.
I liked very much Brian Kennedy and Every song is a cry for love 2007. His live performance was somehow modest but song and preview video was beautiful.
Good luck Ireland !

A catchy tune that keeps lingering in my head. No tricks or breakdancers, no act ! (which seem to be so important to most East-European countries) I like this song !

I'm happy with the song, but when I took a closer look at who else is in our semi final (mainly eastern european countries) I think we might struggle to get out of it. I don't even have to guess as to who Ireland is going to give it's top points to.
I really hope that the jury system goes some way to counteract the type of voting that we've seen over the last 10 years.

I'm really happy with our wee entry this year. It's really beginning to get stuck in my head now and to be honest after listening to so many awful songs and boring ballads from this year's contests this provides very welcome relief.

Unfortunately it is touch and go whether it will qualify but when I compare it with a lot of the other songs we know in its semi-final it more than deserves to qualify to the final

GOOOOO IRELAND!!! :D (L) (L) (L)!!!! :D

I love this song sooo much, if it does qualify I will be soooo dissapointed, although i'm optimistic about its chances :D

Good luck Ireland :D

I love this song..Modern fresh and really catchy..can't get the tune out of my head..well done Sinead & all the gang...you should be proud to be heading to moscow with Irelands strongest entry in a decade xx

@ryan walsh
That's a stupid thing to say! The glory days come and go. You never know when Ireland will win again. I think only sore losers pull out of the competition just because they don't win for a few years. There are 43 countries + in ESC and they all have to win sometime. Portugal and Iceland hasn't even won yet, but they are still in!

The Irish song this year is pretty good, at least the best since Brian Kennedy who did fairly well. I hope it qualifies even if it won't win.

I'm so glad we're all friends in this article (lmao)

Anyway, yes, has any of you actually read the interview with Sinead? The "here" links to the ESCtoday front page. Would love to read an interview with her now, because I'm sure she won't be so sought after when the semi is over.

Georgia took part in the contest only for 2 years. That's not enough to set a pattern yet.

If you say so, Fabio. You know best.

songs that fill their performances with gimmicks (let's not elaborate here)

*laughing to myself* :P I know who you mean!!

Its sad that Ireland stopped to take Eurovision serious..
And why do you think that is?

I'd say Dustin the Turkey was a pretty good indication.

Marcell and Aaron and Norweigan TK - are you all mad?? I really hope you are not, but i'm betting on this to be bottom in the semi-final. It will get completely lost, sadly. Poor Ireland, they have to return big next year or else the country will lose interest.
