The song
Et cetera is a straightforward pop/rock song. Through the lyrics, the singer tells her lover, who yet again has cheated on her, that she doesn't want to hear the excuses anymore and that she won't fall for them again:
And when I heard the rumour
You kissed her at a party
Like a jealous fool I ran to you
You were still mine
That’s just the way my life goes
Still love me even she knows
You say you’re sorry but you’re not
Et cetera
The band
Sinéad Mulvey had her debut as a singer at the age of 13, when she played the leading role in Cinderalla in Dublin. In 2005, she already tried to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest, when she took part in the talent search You're a star. However, she was eliminated in the fourth live show performing Seven nation army by the White Stripes.
In 2009, she entered the Irish national final with the band Black Daisy and the song Et cetera. The entry was written by a team of four songwriters from four different countries: Ireland, Sweden, Italy and Denmark. Jonas Gladnikoff and Christina Schilling had already finished second in the 2009 Danish national final with the song Someday by Hera Björk.
Black Daisy come from Dublin. The band consists of Asta Milleriene (drums), Lesley-Ann Halvey (bass guitar) and Nicole Billings (rhythm guitar). In the national final, they were also supported by the backing singers Angela Holland and Camilla Gottschalck, who are no actual members of the band.
The national selection
Again, the Irish national final for the Eurovision Song Contest was held during Pat Kenny's The late late show. Six acts presented one song each and the winner was chosen by a mix of jury voting and televoting. Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy were the favourites of both and scored 78 of 80 possible points.
Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest
Ireland is best known in the Eurovision Song Contest as the country that has the most victories on its account - no less than seven in total. However, the country was generally very successful until the downfall of the langugage rule and the introduction of televoting in the late 1990s finishing in the top ten no less than 27 times. However, from 1999 onwards, it turned: Ireland was only in the top ten twice since and achieved its first last place in the final in 2007.
We wish Ireland and Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy the best of luck and a good result in Moscow!
Ádh mór ar Éirinn, agus ar Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy. Go raibh toradh maith agaibh i Moscó!

nice one!!definitely my vote from Cyprus!!
I´m not 100% into the song but I like the energy of Sinead and the band. Nice too see Ireland with an uptempo song.
Cal, thanks, that's a big relief
It almost certainly won't win but it's nice to see Ireland entering an up temp song for a change. I think it's one of our best entries for a long time so good luck!
Best Irish entry Since 2001
COME ON IRELAND BACK TO THE FINALS WHERE YOU BELONG!!
I expected more from Ireland, one of my fave countries in the past, specially after the last years bad placings.Sorry to say but Etcetera is among the worst ever Irish entries, just teenage noise music without a clear melody or chorus and the girls look and sound very amaturish.Even Dustin's song was better in my ears.

"But for once I think starting second is an advantage for Ireland, since the first song is such a dreary ballad, the show will only really kick off once this comes on ...."
That's exactly what I thought when I listened to the songs in semi 2 in running order
Ok Jonny the Duck, I have read your comment in the other topic and we can call a truce! yes we can!
We can stop figthing with each other, so there's no hard feelings and harsh words from now one (as I have said yesterday)
and I wanna you know I'm not a rude guy as you may think about me, I'm not here to draw people's attention just because I'm always arguing here (supposedly)... I have high moral principles (even if you don't think so) and I'm not a prejudiced person, so I have absolutely nothing against ducks and you could even be an ostrich that I would not have prejudices against it (because you even dared to say that I was a prejudiced person when I'm not).... but it's past anyway, so never mind it
and yes we can be friends... but please do me a favour and tell to your friend Patte that I will keep an eye on him (even if I will need to follow him around)
well Peace
I hope we will manage to sort our differences out
the backing singers Angela Holland and Camilla Gottschalck, are no actual members of the band
I'm glad to hear it. Maybe they can be replaced before May, because they're not doing a good job here. I'm trying to put my finger on what it is about this song that I don't like, and it might be the backing singers actually. They don't seem to harmonise well with Sinead Mulvey.
But for once I think starting second is an advantage for Ireland, since the first song is such a dreary ballad, the show will only really kick off once this comes on. It will turn everyone's heads and could lead to a stream of votes for Ireland. Let's not forget that Ireland is on a whole lot of people's favourite Eurovision country lists, and they may just be dying for a reason to vote green again. Good luck to Ireland, I hope they rehearse well and come across and professional and charming on the night. If they can manage that, I think they'll be in the final.
Poppy Pickette: I really like Ireland's choice for this year. Great song which I'm growing to like more and more everyday. But did anyone else notice Siniead's awful performance on the Cafe? I really hope she doesn't always sound like that.
Best wishes from Bosnia
The sound on The Cafe is always really bad, so I don't think she'll sound like that on the night.
I love the Bosnian entry, btw. I hope it does well.
Still can't like this, I'm trying hard, but it just doesn't grow on me.
Nice and cheery song from Ireland this year.
It is not among my favourites, but I think it has a good chance to get to the finals.
I really like Ireland's choice for this year. Great song which I'm growing to like more and more everyday. But did anyone else notice Siniead's awful performance on the Cafe? I really hope she doesn't always sound like that.

PORTUGAL FINAL VERSION
What do you think?

@ Jón loves Jóhanna
Laura Jayne Hunter should have won you say??? I highly disagree! I happened to be at the final in Dublin and Sinead Mulvey was clear winner... Laura's song sounded horrible, there were lots of timing and tuning issues, her dancers were very poor too! In my opinion on the night if Sinead and Black Daisey didn't win, it should have gone to Christina, with I wish I could pretend! and maybe Lee Bradshaw after that.
@ Jón:
Are you making a drama for something that happened in the chat box, ages ago? You should grow up a little. If you pretend you're so adult and respectful, you'd be able to forget such a silly thing from the past, and sort the differences out. If he insulted you in a private conversation, that's a problem of yours. Why do we have to get involved in that too? This morning I had an argument with the butcher, but I never thought of bringing my personal little dramas in here.
I am afraid Ireland will remain in the final again. I will be so sorry if that happens to one of my favourites countries, not only in Eurovision but also for many other things. I have some Irish eurofans friends here in Barcelona, even my English teacher is Irish and eurofan too.
This is a grea song the best thing Ireland entered in the last 10 years.... this will grab the teenagers votes for sure.....
the more mature voters will vote Norway for sure.....
PS My name isn't "Donald Duck" and Mark's name isn't "British Julissi" so we'd appreciated it if you didn't get personal with us seeing as we haven't done anything to insult you in any way whatsoever.
Whats this random attack for?
Jon
Erm .... OK!? lol
My comment wasn't attacking at all, it wasn't aimned at anybody at all, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick
and btw Et cetera's song is an okay one... maybe it is a little bit Avril Lavigne or High School Musical for me... this song really sounds like the ones which are sung by Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and so on...
I have nothing against it, although I think Laura Jayne-Hunter should have won the irish national final. In my humble opinion her song was great and it was way fresher than this one and Ireland would do better with this song in Moscow.
lmao @ Aaron leaving Santa Irn Bru!
Although that reminded me, one year we didn't have any mince pies, so we just left him some Jaffa Cakes instead
Does anybody remember our very own eurovision santa?: http://www.theage.co(...)gallery__470x302.jpg I miss him!!
La Mark,
don't want a tipsy santa now do we
and as the saying goes, don't drink and drive, smoke weed and fly
LMAO!!!!
IRELAND TOP 10!!!!
Hey Donald Duck like
is it suppose for me to laugh at you and your comments? or what? tell me if it is because I have forgotten to give a laugh then okay?
your comments are not funny at all, I can say the same about the british julissi... I'm not a classmate of yours, I don't go to the same high school as you guys
and duckie let me tell you that I don't mix it with someone like you...
cheers guys
I like this song much more than last year's entry !! Good Luck Ireland !!
