The song
Copycat is a nostalgic up-tempo rock 'n' roll song in the style of Elvis Presley. Of course, the lyrics are about "the king", too. Out of envious admiration, an Elvis impersonator turns everything upside down in an ironic way saying that the real one is in fact the "copycat":
Way down in the US of A
There's a guy doing things my way
Combing the same greasy hair
Hugging the same teddy bear
He's a copycat, trying to steal my soul
But he's too fat to rock 'n' roll
He's a copycat, trying to steal my soul
But he's too fat to rock 'n' roll
The band
Copycat, who are the third band in the Eurovision Song Contest with an eponymous song following Dschinghis Khan in 1979 and Love City Groove in 1995, center around lead singer and Elvis Presley impersonator Patrick Ouchène. He entered the music business in the 1980s with the release of two albums. Later he joined the band The Dominos, which would launch the hit song Je suis swing. Nowadays, he is best know as singer and guitarist of the band Runnin' wild, but he is also successful as a composer and lyricist.
The other members of the band are composer Miam Monster Miam, Lenn Dauphin as well as te backing vocalists Miss T Blue and Miss D Lite. They are the second band that was chosen by the Walloon broadcaster to represent Belgium with a song in a nostalgic style performed in English following The KMG's with their funky song LovePower in 2007.
The national selection
It was the turn of RTBF again to select the Belgian entry and for the second time in a row, they went for an internal selection. The choice was kept a secret for a long time, although rumours were spread that a 'rock 'n' roll legend' would represent Belgium - which later turned out to be true. The song was presented at Mirano Continental in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Brussels on 10th March.
Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest
RTBF is to select the Belgian entry every second year taking turns with the Flemish broadcaster VRT. History shows that the French speaking broadcaster was far more successful having provided the only Belgian winning song in 1986 and the only two second placed entries in 1979 and 2003, which was also the last year that Belgium was in the top ten. The last entry submitted by the Flemish broadcaster that made the top ten took part in 1977. However, both broadcasters were not too successful in recent years as Belgium was eliminated during the semi finals every year since 2005.

Awful song !
Why they have send imitation of Elvis Presley ?
x(
.............................. .....
I love this song 12 points from UK
i Hate this song!
@Alison Catania,
sweetheart who wrote that horrible little song for Chiara this year ? Exact yes some Belgians... some people just make me puke.... grow up will ya.....
Belgium sends bad songs since 2004.
I wish 2010 will be for Belgium in Eurovision.
Goodluck Belgium!!!!
couldnt even write ur own lyrics belgium ? =S and wth is this te other century?
This song is FANTASTIC! It better qualify!
Well I think that a lot more people will phone for this than we think over here. It's the only really feel good song in the whole bunch..... It's not a fan favorite and will never be but look at we other songs like it in the past.... fe Denmark 3 years ago, a song nobody even spoke about, or the OLson brothers... This is really a very visual song, you need to see this being performed.... I really do believe that the interaction between Le chat will have same effect as Pauls's Abdul's video.... Opposite's attrack...... So wait and see and do not write it off as yet...
A weak song, quite repetitive and I am not sure whether Europe will get the joke. Awful draw as well since the televoters will not have the necessary alcohol in their veins in order to go rock'n roll...
from first semifinal that 5 countreys can pass easy to the final without to tried hard like the others 14, some of them have bad songs some of them good songs : Turkey, Romania, Bosnia, FYRO Macedonia and Armenia
Lina,
since we can't examine every country let's take Armenia.
Can you tell me which countries from the 1st semi always vote for Armenia?
Because in 2007 the Uk, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, Bosnia, Fyrom, Romania, Andorra, Belarus, and Montenegro had all given 0 points to Armenia..and they make up over half of the countries of the 1st semi...and the rest hadn't all given it high points.
And in 2008 the Uk, Switzerland, Finland, Portugal, Malta, Andorra gave Sirusho 0 points..Sweden gave 2pts, Iceland 1pt, Fyrom 1pt, Montenegro 1pt, Romania 4 pts...and these are all countries from the 1st semi.
We are so used to saying 'oh, those countries will be in the final' that we don't stop for a minute to examine facts.
One of the better songs from Belgium, but might be another loss for Belgium.
This is for Belgium in ESC, if they want good result:

Oh, it is indeed, I completely forgot about it! Thanks for reminding me Koen
Actually, Belgium is in the same semi as Bosnia...
I love this entry. Catchy, original and funny.
those who say it's plagiarism, please tell me of which song
It is funny, but personally I don`t like it. Lyrics are stupid.
Back to the topic. Belgium - Copycat. I don't like the song. I'm only sorry they're not in the same semis as Bosnia as that way I would at least be able to secure them zero points from me. Anyway, I don't think Copycat can qualify, there are better choices than this.
Lina, I disagree when it comes to Serbia passing the semis without troubles. First of all, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia won't be able to vote for it because of the semi rules. Of all the ex-Yu countries they have only Croatia and Slovenia left. They might get 12 points from Croatia on that night, but I don't think they will get those from Slovenia, as Slovenian taste differs from Cipela very much so. Their taste differs from other ex-Yu republics in general. I don't think they'll get many points from Albania either (if any at all) and if they do get some points from other friendly countries, I'm afraid it won't be enough to pass the semis.
Well I absolute;y love this song, more it's together with France and Sweden my 3 personal top 3..... But when Mina decided that it does not goes to the final, it won't.... She knows it all. I hope that all Greek restaurants already geve free starter vouchers for every person voting for Saki Saki......
from first semifinal that 5 countreys can pass easy to the final without to tried hard like the others 14, some of them have bad songs some of them good songs : Turkey, Romania, Bosnia, FYRO Macedonia and Armenia. And from second semifinal : Latvia, Serbia, Greece, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. This is the reality and i want to live in reality word, since the rules in semifinals is the same like previews years that countreys is going to pass, only if we have 50/50 voting system maybe some of them stay out from the final
"Avez un bon résult à Moscou!"
Hahaha - awesome!
"Ayez un bon résultat à Moscou!" would be grammatically correct. It would be idiomatically strange, though.
However, I just love "Avez un bon résult à Moscou!"
Pera,
Turkey is one country. There will still be 9 more countries in the final.
The 1st semi is very open..just look at the countries.
for me one of the worst entries this year
Good song, but might flop tough.
@ Mina
Take Turkey for example, They will get 12 points from Belgium and Germany for sure. Switzerland and the UK may give Turkey a lot of points too. There are also, Bosnia, Macedonia and Bulgaria who can help Turkey and VOILA! Turkey is in the final!!!
I'm not trying to say Turkey has a bad song but it has a good source of points.
If this act were Serbia, Armenia or Turkey will qualify without any problem, but it's Belgium and maybe it means nil point
Well, neither Serbia nor Armenia are in the 1st semi.
Layla,
true, I don't..I just don't think the European public will fall for it.
OK song
With a great performance It can pull a ticket to the final , and If it does I predict 19-25th place there
