The song
Love symphony is a widely instrumental symphonic up-tempo song. It is the entry with the least lyrics these year and these are a declaration of love:
Imagine you and me
We're flying above the sea
Feeling free in this love symphony
The performers
Quartissimo are a string quartet originating from Slovenia and Croatia. The band consists of Žiga Cerar (violin), Matjaž Bogataj (violin), Luke Dukarić (viola) and Samo Dervišić (cello). All four of them graduated from music schools and are experienced musicians having performed in well known orchestras all over Europe. They joint forces for the Slovene national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009.
Martina Majerle is a student of economics but she is also a singer. As a backing vocalist, she has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest three times already: for Croatia in 2003, when Claudia Beni performed Više nisam tvoja, for Slovenia in 2007 when Alenka Gotar sang Cvet z juga and for Montenegro's Stefan Filipovic in 2008 with the song Zauvijek volim te. Meanwhile, she has become a member of the RTV orchestra in Coratia.
Quartissimo were originally supposed to perform Love symphony alone in the national final, but Martina Majerle joined them as the rules of the national selection requires vocals in each competing song. However, they still competed under their band name alone and could win the selection. In Moscow, they will perform as Quartissimo feat. Martina.
The national selection
RTVSlo introduced a new format for their national selection EMA this year. Only one semi final was held with 14 acts competing. Eight of them qualified for the grand final, where they met six acts that were pre-qualified. In the final, the jury and the televoters disagreed once again. The televoting favourites Skupina Langa & Manca got not a single point from the jury while the jury favourites Quartissimo were only seen fourth by the televoters. However, on balance they could win the ticket to Moscow.
Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Slovenia entered the Eurovision Song Contest as an independant country in 1993, when they had hosted and won the semi final in Eastern Europe. Since then the country has finished in the top ten only three times in a final including their best result - two seventh places - in 1995 and 2001. 2007 was the only time Slovenia manged to qualify from the semi final under the current format. Under the flag of Yugoslavia, songs from Slovenia took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 (which was the debut of Yugoslavia), 1962, 1966, 1967, 1970 and 1975.
Sloveniji s skupino Quartissimo & Martino Majerle želimo veliko sreče in obilico uspeha v Moskvi!

Very nice song.
Vise nisam tvoja - omg, how long time ago was it...
Sorry, I dont like this to be honest. I like the fact its so original, but the classical bit just completely fades away because of the weird mix with pop and the beat.. It misses something for me. It's certainly no Nocturne or Rändajad, and those are the entries its most easily compared to...
But thanks for the originality, Slovenia!
Im sure one day the NL will also catch on...
so many Croats representing Slovenia this year
you can see how there 2 nations love each other...
BTW, most of countries can be categorized in many ways... Croatia is Mediterranean, Central European, South European, East European, Balkan, Dinaridic, etc country...
too much music and minimun of singing ((((
If Martina sings in Slovenian it will be greater than in English ;-)
GOOD LUCK SLOVENIA ... one of MY TOP 5
The new version is pop, enjoyable, I hope it qualifies.
I love this entry, it's in my top 10, but I don't like those picture frames either. They should come up with another trick.
Good luck Slovenia
I like it. I think it will make it into the Top 20 easily
I don't like it to be honest.
They've tried to go classical, but it's kind of weak and popularised. I don't particularly like her voice and the few lyrics aren't exactly amazing. I think 'empty' sums up this song for me.
In semi-fnial 2 there are about 5 countries which we all know should/will qualify (Norway, Greece, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Denmark). The rest... Who knows? Slovakia, Serbia and Croatia will probably provide big points for them so Slovenia will probably squeeze into the final.
nice music i wish good luck to them
Love the Slovenian entry!!
Together with Estonia, they are both MILES in front of the Norwegian Fairytale!
I'll hope the best for Slovenia this year again - good luck from Denmark
@Erica hahahahahaha
it's funny how all of us have different taste. I absolutely love this slovenian entry. I listen to it every day and it's among my hot faves for this year. If it doesn't qualify i will be seriously pissed off...
I read some comments about Finland. Well to me that song is only good enough for the aerobics class at the gym and since i have a love-hate relationship with the gym, i don't like the song at all. I hope it doesn't qualify.
good song will be in top 10
id say this will qualify if it had the chance to participate in the first semi but not sure about the second.hope it does
That's a really nice presentation of Slovenian song.
Yes, not many people are aware of the fact that we compete on this contest since 1961, so we have quite a respectful ESC history behind us and I dare to believe also in front of us.
I trust in this year's entry and just wish them all the best in Moscow!
Quartissimo and Martina, good luck! Navijamo za vas!
I think this entry will do well. It´s nice but hardly something I would consider listening to more than a few times.
Geographically Greece can be categorized as: Southern European, Balkan, Mediterranean, Eastern European, South-Eastern European or just European lol, it depends.
@eurovizz according to EBU greece and turkey are western countries lol
@ Eurovizz
Now I get what you mean...duh! Unless she gets rid of those picture frames though, the performance is just going to annoy me
I thought Greece was meditterean
@eurovizz greece is also meditterean , generally those ex ottomans in europe are considered as balkans even some profs say hungary is also a balkan nation historically
@ Eurovizz
Do you mean the new version doesn't include the dreaded picture frames? I'm confused
I also think that Moldova doesn't belong to the balkans, and I saw the previous comment with the list of the "balkan girls", that's why I asked.
As far as I know the balkans are: Greece, the european part of Turkey, Bulgaria, the ex-yugo countries, Albania and Romania.
Originally I thought this song was OK, not great, but not awful. Then I saw the contrived performace and now I really dislike it. I found myself wishing that she did us all a favour and just stayed behind those stupid picture frames. Not sure it will get to the final, if it does I wouldn't expect any great result.
My favourite ESC songs from Slovenia:
1996 Dan najlepših sanj
1997 Zbudi se
1998 Naj bogovi slišijo
2001 Energy
2007 Cvet z juga
Does Moldova belong to the balkans?
No.
