The song
Düm tek tek is an up-tempo song mixing pop music with some minor folkloristic elements. The lyrics are a declaration of love and in fact, the singer tell that she is so much in love that it makes her heart beat like a drum:
Angel, I wake up
And live my dreams endlessly
Crazy for you
Can you feel the rhythm in my heart?
The beat's going düm tek tek
Always out it like there's no limit
Feels like there's no way back
The singer
Hadise was born in Belgium in 1985 and she became famous, when she took part in the first season of the talent search Idool in 2003. Although she did not even reach the top ten, she got her first record contract shortly after. In 2005, her first album Sweat was released. While it did not reach the Ultratop top 50 (but peaked at number 52), the album spawned the hit singles Sweat, Stir me up, Milk chocolate girl and Bad boy. In 2006, Hadise had her debut as a TV presenter in Turkey, where she hosted the highly popular show Turkiye Popstar.
In 2007, the single A good kiss was released. While it peaked at number 28 in the Flemish single charts, it became Hadise's first top ten hit in Turkey, where it peaked at number six. Shortly after, My body became her first top ten hit in Belgium reaching number eight and the song Deli oğlan was a number three hit in Turkey and reached the top of various radio charts. The second album, which included these songs, was pulished in June 2008 and it was far more successful than its predecessor peaking at number 19 in the Ultratop 50, number six in the Belgium Top 20 and number 13 in the Alternative Top 50.
In 2008, Hadise was chosen internally to represent Turkey in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. In December, the song Düm tek tek was officially presented as Turkish entry. Currently, she is on promotion tour through Europe. The work on the third studio album has already begun.
The national selection
For the fourth year in a row, the Turkish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest was chosen internally. Hadise had been chosen to represent the country and she had autonomous control over the choice of the songwriters and the language she will perform in. Eventually, three songs were presented to the broadcaster and Düm tek tek was chosen to be performed in Moscow.
Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest
Turkey entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975 and finished last on its debut. Also, over the following years the country was not very succesful and it was not before 1986 that the first top ten placing was achieved. However, it turned in 1997 when Turkey finished third. A victory in 2003 followed as well as fourth places in 2004 and 2007.
Türkiye ve Hadise'ye Moskova'da iyi şanslar ve iyi bir sonuç dileriz!

i dont like that 50/50 voting, i thing we are going to have suprices this year in the final
we will hope wonderful setting show to you at moscow! go hadise go! but you dropped to finland promotion tour.to ask me,that wasn''t good for you.you mustn't wait higher points at Scandinavian countries.nevermore good luck!!!
Last years Turkey was very successful at the contest.
Deservedly or not (e.g. not 2007 if you ask me).
This year they again will do some top position, but maybe mnore deservedly than any previous entry since 2003.
Very catchy, very Shakira, very cool. Not in my top10 so far because I usually don't like these usual hit tunes, seen many times before, made by actual trend pattern.

i love Aylin Vatankos in 1992 with " Yaz bitti " , also 1986 Klips & Onlar " halley ",1997 Sebnem Paker & Grup Etnik "Dinle" and i love love love love Sibel Tüzün !!! maybe her song wasnt sooooooo good but she have a tallent a show woman ( YES she is super STAR
) and also she is very good person , i understand from the way she speaking and smiling
a good song, but talk about miming at the maltese show!!! sooooo obvious
Hadise isnt similar to Helena,Hadise is so different. She has a own style.Voice, body, dance and eveything (not cross my mind)
But Helena is various too and so It wasn't correct to compare Hadise with to Helena Papariozu.
I don't like the song from Turkey very much. For me it's a cheap copy of "My number one"from Helena Paparizou. Turkey can do it much better with song as "Dinle" "Deli"," Yorgunum anla", That are songs that I like much more than this silly "Dum Tek,Tek !! Sorry Turkey, next year a GOOD song please !!!
for me one countreys from that 5 must be the winner this year : Turkey, Greece, Iceland, Norway or Sweden !
i will vote for Turkey this year
12 points from Greece
Murat Boz?
hmm can succeed fifty fifty.the singer hasnt got a supa dupa trick,so it would depend on the song i think
@ PAtsy. I hope you will like next years song then
. Rumour has it that Murat Boz might represent Turkey next year.
It looks like every other year Turkey has to send an ethno pop song like this one .
I really enoyed turkish entry last year , but can' say the same about this one .
Tastes are different but I'm just not into this low quality commercial kind of song and singer .
@ Meral. Thanks
Ive done that already... its due in for monday
(5,000 words)
@ Axel Kearns
im glad u get my point n gave a decent answer unlike some-im talkin in general-
u r right.Tr n Arm can hit the top about diaspora votes n it drives me crazy at times my country gives 10s or 8sto the songs which means nothin to me while my favourites which i vote for gets nothin(for ex Molitva)
bu this is esc.has surprises, politics, racism, pass ion, etc.in it caus its directly connected to the people.
i know people not voting for Severine caus of the porn thing or votin for Carola just becaus shes faithfull.
so i feel responsibility for what i write n want every member to think first n then write.
God knows, caus of the reasons above members are ready to react or maybe attack.
@ Axel Kearns n all the esctoday members
thats why i dont want some reactions to get repeated or spread under many news n many times.no need to make people react in a defensive way by repeatin or accusin.
let them vote with their own will.otherwise it would be so easy to react without thinkin where my words r goin.im not doin it n wanna see the same respect from the other members.thats all.
Hadise is the biggest favourite of Eurovision 2009. She can win %90. I wish that Hadise is winner of ESC 2009.
By the way, Norway is going to be Sweden of last year. I dont believe Ogae Results.
Goodluck Hadise. My heart and votes are with you!!!!
@ Meral. I'm good thanks
hw are you?
looolz na i'm not offended
I was just reading some of the comments and I found it ironic... because i'm writing an essay about social exclusion towards the Turks in Europe loooool.
GO Hadise
See you tonight in La Scala....
hadiseeeeeeeeeee is tHe beSt x) x)
Petrol is my mum’s favourite song hehe...
I think Turkey should have won in 2004 as well loooolz Athena was awesome
Mor ve Otesi were great as well... and I like most of their songs. But it was obvious they wouldn’t win it. Hadise has a better chance of winning because people like a) English songs (which
me a bit) and b) catchy songs...
I don’t think she will win… but I’m expecting a top 5 position.
Meral,
Give me a break my friend. I live in UK, that does not make me English, does it ?
Well a few years ago I even bought a new version and maxi because I like it that much. And in Eurovision circles, that ssong is one of Turkey's favorites of all time. But Dinle is by far your best entry ever.
I agree absolutely, I loved Greece last year, and especially Turkey. One of those two would have been a far better winner than Russia.
To tell you even more, these are the Turkish song I absolutely adore :
1980 : Petr'oil
1986 : Halley
1996 : Besinci mevsim
1997 : Dinle (best ever)
1999 : Don artik
2004 : For Real (second best)
2008 : Deli (equal second best)
This year I can not stand the song, sorry
Gunec, I totally agree with you, not just Turkey, also Greece, Israel, Ukraine, Armenia etc.... But it doesn't make it easier my friend. I live in Uk and it does hurt when I watch the voting nowadays. So I hope the jury will neutralise in the final some of the outcome.
Meral, can you imagine how painful it is for myself and lots of others , to have to read in almost every article, Istranbul 2010, Greece 2010, etc... knowong that almost 50% of your scoring comes from diaspora.... So if you would read all my messages in other articles about Armenia or Greece, you will read the same. So nothing the do with racism...
I hope the Belgian people will understand the reason why she did want to participate for Turkey and not for Belgium and totally ignore this woman. She will go to the final as there are enough Turkish immigrants for that but I really do hope that in the final the jury will stop this tacky song...
AXEL THIS IS WHAT I'M REACTING FOR. YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THE GIRL FOR HER DESICION TO REPRESENT HER ONE AND ONLY HOME COUNTRY, HER MOTHER COUNTRY. I AM SURE THAT OUR BELGIAN FRIENDS WILL SHOW THIS RESPECT. IT IS SUCH A SHAME ON YOU TO TRY AND INFLUENCE THE PEOPLE TO ACT ACCORDING TO YOUR TASTES OR YOUR POLITICAL VIEWS . THEY COULD HAVE SENT A WORLD STAR LIKE LARA FABIAN (SHE IS BELGIAN), THIS IS THEIR CHOICE. JUST SIT BACK AND WATCH THE MUSIC WIN. I AM NOT SAYING SHE IS GOING TO WIN. BUT ALL I WISH IS LET QUALITY AND ART WIN. NOT POLITICS. AND TO ALL OF YOU WHO KEEP BUGGING ABOUT TURKISH DIASPORA, YOU KNOW WELL THAT THE MOST EFFECTIVE DIASPORAS ON THE WORLD ARE THE ARMENIAN AND ISRAELI DIASPORAS. BY THE WAY ISRAEL'S SONG IS ONE OF MY FAVS THIS YEAR.
@Meral
Whatever my friend.... and you are from ?
Big kiss
@Almila,
Sweetheart I have defenitely nothing against Turkey, I absolutely adore your country, Istanbul must be my favorite capital in the world but I hate diaspora voting in general. This article is about Turkey so I wrote about Turkey, but indeed Greece, Armenia, Eastern Europe are all the same. But Armenia and Turkey are the worst by far. I loved the Turkish entry last year btw.
