The song
Eyes that never lie is a mid-tempo rock song with pop elements. Through the lyrics, the singer sings a beloved person's praise:
You chased sorrow away
You changed night into day
You cured all of my pain
With your eyes that never lie
All my life I waited
Thinking I would never fly
Then you looked and saw my wings
With your eyes that never lie
The singer
Petr Elfimov was born in 1980 to a family of musicians as his mother is a famous conductor and his father is a singer in a choir. His own stage debut came at the young age of six. In the late 1990s, he founded his first band Egoist and in 2004, he won the first prize in the Popular Song Contest of Vitebsk. He also competed in other music contests all around Europe. Over those years, he attended various music schools and he graduated from the Belarusian State Music Academy in 2005. He has been a pop vocal coach since and currently he is working on his master degree.
In 2004, Petr Elfimov was a backing singer for Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest. However, Alexandra & Konstantin did not make it to the final on the country's debut. In 2009, he entered the Belarusian national selection as a soloist and could win with Eyes that never lie. He is the third male solo performer representing Belarus in a row and he maintains the country's tradition of singing in English at the competition.
The national selection
The Belarusian selection was turned upside down this year. Although there was a semi final and a final again, this time the semi final qualifiers were chosen by the jury and the eventual winner was chosen by televoting. Petr Elfimov was the clear winner of the national final with 11,475 votest ahead of Gunesh, who finished second with 7,949 votes.
Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest
Belarus entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and was not very successful at the beginning being eliminated in the semi final on its first three attempts. However, it changed in 2007 Koldun qualified for the final and finished sixth overall. In 2008, the country did not make it to the final again.
Мы жадаем Беларусi i Пятру Ялфiмаву усяго найлепшага i добрага рэзультату у Маскве!

I'm stunned to see how many people bashing Belarus becuase of the vocals, I'm starting to wonder, is it me who have heard some computer-fixed recording or is everyone here deaf? Based on the recording I've heard he's one of the best singers this competition have seen in many years...
Thank heavens we can always rely on Belarus to provide the toilet break
P. Then again, the country deserves no better.
@paul c:
Thanks for spreading awareness, I've been trying to insult the Belarussian government for years now on this forum
. It seems only right. Then again, I always thought they should be banned, just as I think there should have been WAY more noise against Russia this year!
Ladys and Gentelman! Charlotto Pirello!
Is a joke...
Kisses from Barcelona
The chorus is nice. But altogether this is not a good entry IMO. Good luck Belarus!
Actually I only know first 3 seconds of this song - that's how long it gets my player to change the track when I press "next" on it.
Having in mind Gunesh didn't manage to represent Belarus with the certain qualifier song, I'm considering even delete this one from the playlist.
I like this song very much !! It was a pity for me that he wasn't in Amsterdam on 18/4 Good Luck Belarus !!

"I think theres gonna be a fair few bannings to say the least"
I'm fully prepared to be banned tomorrow, but I'll try to avoid it. May be a little hard to do when I write the entire Norwegian national anthem of course...
I think i'll just sit on the fence
That sounds like a very smart thing to do. I wish we could all be as smart as you, but alas I expect there will be casualties tomorrow. But then again maybe not, ESCtoday don't seem to be too bothered about following up their own rules.
OOHH I forgot Norwegian TK !!
Johnny, you can join the Norwegian army tomorrow if you want, lmao !!

I think i'll just sit on the fence, I don't really know which side to take so i'll just watch .. and maybe spam about Hadise on the odd occasion because ofcourse no article is complete without a bit of Hadise love!
This is the best entry from Belarus ever. Count on my vote in the semi
"Tomorrow will be a busy day for the esc-editors....... "
They have probably hired extra help just for tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be a busy day for the esc-editors.......
I like this song. I think, Petr`s voice is very good. And I feel that this song is " half a Finnish ".
Good luck Petr with Eyes that never lie.
This really is a no hope song, he can sing but it just goes nowhere. It's followed by Sweden so it will be instantly forgotten.
My favourite ESC songs from Belarus:
Nothing so far
Jonny
Hell yeah, I'm gonna Spam til they ban me
1500 comments? Please, if you only count mine maybe...
This is absolutely a state-of-the-art ESC-song for 2009! I do Petr a place in the Finale! A certain Top10 in the Semi1!

Btw I think tomorrow we could (potentially) set a new reaction record!
Because with the anti-negative-vibe device being put in place by the Norwegian supporters, and the retaliation of the ... how shall I put it ... not so norwegian supporters, I reckon we could hit 1500 reactions
Basically I predict all out war!
Good luck for tomorrow everybody!
awful, just awful, i forgot this song existed
