San Marino: Miodio in Sanremo compilation

As reported some weeks ago, in February MiOdio, the Sammarinese band who represented the microstate in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, took part in the online contest "SanremoWeb.59", which is tied to the italian Sanremo Festival, where they reached the top 10, gaining the honour to get on stage during the festival.

Among the 90 songs participating in this online contest, 20 have been choosen to be featured in a special compilation. The choice has been made regardless of the position the songs have reached in the contest, but with a special attention to their quality. The result is a CD presenting some of the most interesting new singers and groups in the italian music scene - And MiOdio are among them, of course with their song "Evoluzione genetica"!

"Sanremo 59 Web" compilation is out now and you can buy the record here .

To listen to Evoluzione genetica and other songs by MiOdio, you can go to their MySpace page:

A report by Cristina Giuntini, president of OGAE Italy.

I agree with most comments. They should have been in the final last year.

San Marino were so underrated last year - I loved the song, it was original unlike so many pop songs of the same formats year in, year out. They were robbed as well as Andorra's anonymous 2007.

Come back all microstates !!!!!

Miodio were robbed from a decent ranking at Belgrade!
Totally not deserved last place

just to make it clear...they were on stage but not performing, just as audience...that must have been really miserable for them! though "technically" they have been on Sanremo's stage :-P

I don't think it was about geography either. If Greece could give points to San Marino (with all our immigrants), surely other countries could, too.
I guess the song wasn't very memorable among esc voters, although I loved it.

I thought Miodio's song was, as others have said, not very memorable. Not to say it was bad, just ok. They did some better work after Eurovision in my opinion. But that's in the past, hopefully in the future, San Marino will be back with something exciting a and new!

As Lina said, it would be great to see the whole gang back together, and Liechtenstein! My new favourite country I think... But sadly, I think it could be a while before they enter.

Their song last year was just nice, and very forgettable indeed. It is very obvious on the CD compilation, where Turkey comes just after : what a difference of quality between the two entries. Every time Turkey starts, it wakes me up, which means that San Marino made me fall asleep.

I don't think it was geography or just diaspora that "got in the way" for them reaching the final. The song was very anonymous and forgettable. You have to remember that the song will be heard once and it was just too anonymous and not that great.
