The song
Leť tmou is a mid-tempo rock ballad with classical elements. The lyrics are about an opressive sadness and the singers make each other hope that they will make it through the darkness:
Cítim chladné, tiene zradné
Túžbou planie čo je na dne
Prázdno v duši, to sa stáva
Horkú príchuť temno máva
My musíme vyjsť z tieňov
Nástrah a slov
Srdce daj, nezúfaj
A leť tmou
I am freezing, there are obscure shadows
The desire glows on the ground
An emptiness in the soul
A bitter taste, a dark taste
We need to get out of the shadows
Intrigues and words
Give your heart, do not despair
And cross the darkness in flight
The singers
Nela Pocisková was born in Bratislava in 1987. While she is still attending music school, she has already played the role of Maria in West Side Story. She is also an actress on television as she has been starring in the show Ordinácia v ružovej záhrade, which is currently in its second season. Another actor in this programme Kamil Mikulčík, who forms the Slovak Eurovision Song Contest duo with her. He was bron in 1980 and he originates from Trnava. He studied both economics and performing arts, and the latter turned out to become his profession. He has been working as a stage actor for years and he has also appeared in musicals.
Nela Pocisková and Kamil Mikulčík teamed up for the Slovak national final with the song Let' tmou. They won the selection and will therefore be the first Slovak entrants in eleven years and also the first duo to represent the country. In Moscow, they will be supported on stage by Rastislav Dubovský, composer of the song, on the piano and Jan Pospíšil on the cello.
The national selection
Slovakia had a big national selection. There were five semi finals with a total of 50 songs and two songs from each heat were chosen by televoting to move forward to the final along with a jury wildcard. In the national final, televoting chose the top three before the jury chose the eventual winner. Nela Pocisková & Kamil Mikulčík had been the clear winners of their semi final and in the televoting round of the final, before the jury gave them the ticket to Moscow.
Slovakia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Slovakia wanted to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 1993 but narrowly did not make it to Millstreet finishing fourth in the Eastern Europe semi final. The debut came the year after to little success followed by relegations in 1995, 1997 and 1999 after low placings in 1996 and 1998. Slovakia decided not to return to the contest in 2000 and stayed away from the competition until this year.
Želáme Slovensku a Kamilovi Mikulčíkovi, Nele Pociksovej veľa šťastia a dobré výsledky v Moskve!

This Is Actually growing on me. I am actually starting to like it
Hmmmmmmm....let's say "nice", but I'd prefer only one singer on stage...I'm not very fond of duets generally and in particular the girl here screams her soul out in the end of the song which kills my ears...! Could be better...overall a good effort but Motliba back in 1996 was a lot better in my opinion!
Good luck Slovakia, welcome back!
Welcome back Slovakia !! I love your song very much !! I will vote for you !!! Good Luck in Moscow !!!
well its a nice song i like it.esp the first part but towards the end it get stoo loudy n looses all the magic
ive totally loose concentration that i cant remember any melody after five minutes.still not very bad though

Love the girl's voice!!!! It's such a nice ballad, reminds me of Eurovision good times!! Anyway, it's quite sure this won't qualify but good luck guys :-))
I love the title but the song is average...
Love this one
It was never going to be a fan favourite, and is probably doomed for failure.
But I think it is absolutely amazing.
The female singer screams. This song could be good if they get rid of her.
It might sound a bit old-fashioned, that's all. It's like Romania 2008: a classy old-school song, but it didn't appeal the younger generations that prefer forgettable 'shake-your-arse' stuff and trashy lyrics.
Whoa! Hang on. I am definitely part of the 'younger generation' and really, if I hear the description 'uptempo dance song with minor folkloristic elements' once more I truly think I'm going to cry..
In my opinion, Romania last year was just all this singing REALLY LOUDLY into microphones. Same for Slovakia this year: from 0:01 you know exactly what's going to be happening for the rest of the time: two people, they both look very important because they've got A Deep Message to bring to You The Viewer. And that's why they sing really loudly into the microphones and go com-plete-ly over the top in their pretentious Drama. It has no recognisable melody (I still cant remember anything of the song except the video) and the format died somewhere in the 90s.
Trouble is - every ballad his year is going to be compared with France, which has a song that builds up real tension and drama just by Patricia's very subtle little gestures on stage and the tone of her voice. They have a globally best-selling artist singing a well-thought through song that for me is the best this year. I don't think Slovakia can win this comparison really.
you can say about this song what you want but except is good, from the more bads songs this year, sure
my fav ballad in this years esc and very beautiful lyrics 2
i hope they do go 2 the finals not just for me but for my nan 2 she would love it if she was alive still
I like this kind of dramatic ballads.
Give your heart, do not despair
And cross the darkness in flight
i like this, nice lyrics good luck slovakia
It´s like they´re torturing a cat or something! Not good. Good luck I guess...
It's like Romania 2008: a classy old-school song, but it didn't appeal the younger generations that prefer forgettable 'shake-your-arse' stuff and trashy lyrics
This doesn't appeal to older generations either, and it's comparable to Hungary 2008 in that respect. But since this isn't a fan favourite, I'm sure you think it's going to win.
I'm amused by people who criticise the lyrics of Düm Tek Tek while at the same time have Et Cetera as their personal favourite. That's hilarious!
o points,,sorry Slovakia!
not all ballads are nice. this one is not. that's all
And erm....Nela was born in 1991, not 1987 and Kamil in 1977, not in 1980!!
By my opinion, Slovakia has got one of the best quality, amazing songs. Together with France and Estonia the most quality entry this year. I really don't know, why are the people crazy about Turkey, Spain, Azerbaijan and Norway...which are overrated.
Slovakia to the final to perform the real quality!
You can say whatever you want about this entry, except that it is bad. It might sound a bit old-fashioned, that's all. It's like Romania 2008: a classy old-school song, but it didn't appeal the younger generations that prefer forgettable 'shake-your-arse' stuff and trashy lyrics.
If you want to hear bad, screamy and annoying songs look at Norway, Turkey or Spain. Oh, and I forgot to say OVERRATED!
Slovakia has very good song which is full of emotions and with beauty lyrics (if you don't understand, you lost magic of this song). So, good luck and pass to the final.
it's reminds me of my 2 drunken friends at a karaoke evening singing "I got you babe"...several times, incessantly, thinking they're talented..(promised not to return but couldn't resist!)
I dont like Slovakia's song..but maybe this is only my taste and not the taste of the rest europe
So i want to wish to Slovakia good luck
slovakia !! after so many years away, you could have done so much better than this
its a boring 80's 90's love duet, that just doesnt go anywhere at all
i think slovakia will remain in semi final, and i reckon they could pull out again
pity though
