Ukraine: Svetlana's big gamble

Ukrainian hopeful Svetlana Loboda is staking more than just her reputation on this year's Eurovision Song Contest, if reports are to be believed - her Kyiv home may be part of the gamble on success in Moscow.

According to one source, the singer has been forced to fund her Eurovision escapades from her own pocket in these cash-strapped times, as financial backing was not forthcoming for the Hell Machine stageshow, costing nearly 80,000 Euros according to some reports.

Huge opportunity
Showing true belief in her entry, the singer has apparently remortgaged her home in Kyiv to pay for the show. "It's a nice apartment in Kyiv and I've used it to get a loan from the bank." She admitted: It's a risk - I could end up with nothing - but it's a huge opportunity."

Svetlana and her troupe of dancing boys have already appeared in numerous events and shows across Europe, promoting the Ukrainian entry Be My Valentine, which will compete in the second semi-final on May 14th in Moscow.

I dont care how many times she remortgages her house or brings out a statement like this to win more votes, the song is still CRAP CRAP CRAP!!!

"Please Ukraine, give us a break of all ur rubish. Stop manipulating media as you always do!! Thank god there is not minus points, as this rubish would get the lowest from me! "

- Sadly, the only time the United Kingdom gets media attention is when they finish last.

Complaining? LOL . Try a better word like Disgusted. Twisting people's minds for your own gain is incredibly low, even for you people.

Cheap, crazy, ordinary, rubbish - exactly how I like it. Bitch or saint - nothing in between. And if you're really a lucky guy you get both of them in one female entity. Keep the faith, Svetlana.

The song is horrible and it is ordinary.

I dont think voting for her.

I absolutely hate this song and the singer BUT if this news is true, all respect. At least she believes in herself and is willing to invest herslf. So well done .....

Nottingam Forest

Whatever. Just as long as we don't have to go to Kiev again. One Moscow and two Kievs in six years is too much for anyone to stomach.

I think this is just a media manipulation, just as much as her song being a "lets have it rough " manipulation. "crisis girl" -gimme a break, at most probably you have like 10 houses, so you can afford to mortgage one. Pff, this is sooo laaaame. People, get smart, don't believe all media thrash.

She's crazy, but I think this might pay off. Not the best song ever, but a lot of fun, and I saw at the UK Preview party that she can definitely perform!

True fantasy

I can see why you are called True Fantasy. You're not deaf at all are you?

does EBU pay the countries or singers who finish in top 3 or top 5?

No matter what people may say or think....Ukraine is going to give a real BOOMBASTIC show on stage.
i bet they will pass the semi-final and will get top 5 in the final.
yes...a big posibility to Kyiv 2010.

Eurovision isn´t everything.

Maybe they shouldn't have made a hell machine. Just a thought? Now, I'll admit that I loved Ukraine's song right from the word go, but extravagant performances are NOT something to make me vote for a song, so I won't be surprised to find myself voting for a different song on the night of the final. (probs France :))
