Delegation not happy with artistic direction

Lithuania considers withdrawal

Last Wednesday Lithuanian representative at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest Sasha Son had his first rehearsal. According to Lithuanian delegation and to Sasha's management it went in the worst way possible, because artistic directors didn't allow Lithuanians to use their own video projection, which was sent to Channel 1 before the deadline. Also the lights have been set up randomly and, according to Channel 1, will not be changed.

"We have done everything we had to do - to make our own video projection with social adverts for the performance of Love", says the head of Lithuanian delegation J. Vilimas. The video was sent to the Channel 1 some time ago, before the deadline. For some reasons, just before the first Sasha Son's rehearsal they told that they will not screen this projection during the performance. They present a few reasons for that: it was sent to them too late or it does not match with Greece's and Moldova's performances (that are before and after Lithuanian one).

Yesterday Channel 1 has invited Lithuanian delegation for a meeting, which wasn't successful for Lithuanians. The Contest's artistic directors stated that there will not be any video projection on the screens, because they don't think it's good and it doesn't match with contest's entirety. They have proposed to Sasha Son to use just a few moments from the video, but not the full video as it was supposed to be. Lithuanian representative said that it's better not to participate at all than to participate when nothing is being done from what you ask to be done. The same problem appeared with the lightening - directors have set up the lights totally randomly, not paying attention to what Lithuanian delegation requested.

Next Lithuanian rehearsal will take place tomorrow, on Sunday. "We will see what has been set up, and if nothing is changed - there is no point to participate. I feel ashamed because a lot of Lithuanians are waiting to see my performance with social advertisements that were promised through all my preparation time for Eurovision.Lithuanians will be upset with my performance, me too. So tomorrow, if the work of artistic directors don't satisfy us - we will withdraw", says Sasha Son. There was no statement so far from EBU.

Oh my, it looks like this ESC will be a complete disaster ...

Lithuania, please don't withdraw, you have a good entry and that should be all that matters although I'm really sorry you can't bring it on stage the way you wanted to and they way you have a right to!

Best of luck from Bosnia&Herzegovina.

its all wrong... Russians dont let sasha son use his video cos they came up with the same idea and theyre only in final so yeah, its way easier just not to let lithuanian's use theirs. The stuff they say, how they explain everything is bs. they received the video ages ago, and russians one isnt even done yet. It's stupid to expect fair play isnt it?

I really do not understand this.

Hadn't the Lithuanians given the exact dimensions of this extra screen to the Russians? Apparently yes.

Did they send the extra scene in deadline? Apparently yes.

If it doesn't fit to the stage (bigger), the Russians should have warned them earlier. Then what the hell is the problem?

Now, If the Russians consider that it doesn't fit "atristically", it's none of their buissness. Lithuanians can have whatever they like on stage.

The only reason i can imagine that they could have problem, is the lack of time to deploy before the performance and remove after the performance the extra stage. This would be a problem, but the organisers should have predicted sth like that. And in any case, it's not Greece's or Moldova's fault. It's the Russians who should have predicted and deal with this problem.

Anyway, i find the Lithuanian song brilliant, i think it should be in top3 and it certainly takes my vote, with or without the extra screen, the fancy lights or whatever! LITHUANIA, PLEASE DO NOT WITHDRAW!

Layla, your mistaken a lil.. Lithuania doesnt want what russians offer because all heart was put in our projections. Its not just a show n lites (like for some countries), but it has to do with song directly. Well, we want to show what we wanted al dis time, nt what russians want. Maybe russians should sing instead sasha too?? Its a big nonsence n disrespect.

@lucio f
You are delusional. Georgia wasn't forced to withdraw and neither is Lithuania or Ireland. Georgia came with a mockery of a song hinting to politics and they did that on purpose. They were offered to change the lyrics, but they withdrew instead - their own fault for voting for such a crap anddisrespectful song. Leave politics out of ESC! And stop bashing Russia for everything they do or don't do.
Lithuania got a nice enough background, a better one than UK, France, Malta etc.. so they should be satisfied with that and MOVE ON! What matters is the song. They obviously don't believe much in their own song if they feel they need some artistic background to help them qualify. His performance was not the worst looking. I think it's better than not participating at all. Too close to back out now. And also, that would mean less points to Estonia, so Lithuania got to stay and give their 12 points to Estonia!!!

i think lithuania is doing the right thing withdrawing.. no one should put their artistic ambition on hold just because a tv-channel says so.

Isn't the point to make the songs stand out from each other? Why they need to match the other performances?

But still, I think it would be really dumb of them to withdraw for this. What matters most is the song and if the song can't carry itself then it's simply not good enough. I think it's rather dumb to place that much importance on a background/lights. No matter how nice it looks, it won't make me vote for a song. I won't be voting for Romania or Cyprus for instance, just because they have two of the best backgrounds of all. And I certainly won't be voting for Greece or Turkey. I think most people are not that stupid, so why should Sasha be?

The EBU should step in immediately! This ESC will be a disaster otherwise.. is Channel 1 still living in the Soviet days when unwillingness or laziness was a valid reason for not doing the best you can?? Idiots. This song is brilliant and it wi^ll be a shame if it gets ruined.

It started with Georgia, then Lithuania, lately Ireland, who will be next?

Very unprofessional behaviour, maybe Russia should be banned next year... ?
