Target Achieved

Eurovision Success in the bag for Malta

Malta, one of the smallest participating countries at the Eurovision Song Contest, is celebrating in style after returning to the final of the competition for the first time since 2006. The national broadcaster's target of qualification has been achieved adter Chaira took her song What if we to the Eurovision song Contest final last night.

The Times of Malta reports that Chiara could barely sleep after the excitement of qualifying for her third Eurovision Song Contest final and has spent today relaxing at the delegation's hotel. They also report that PBS chief executive Albert Debono has spoken out against claims that the delegation are enjoying a holiday at the taxpayers expence. He stated that the entire trip has been paid for by private sponsorships. The Maltese delgation have been one of the most active this year, with Chiara making many appearances for fans and at official parties.

National Broadcaster PBS set a target of qualification for the final after failing to qualify in 2007 with Olivia Lewis and last year with Morena. All eyes are now firmly set on Saturday where Chiara will be looking to continue a personal trend. She placed third with her Eurovision Song Contest debut in 1998 and then second in 2005. She told esctoday.com that she wants to win this time and the first and possibly trickest hurdle is now out of the way.

How did Bosnia, Armenia, Portugal and Sweden qualify ?
The other six qualifiers I predicted to qualify.
I thought Bulgaria and Czech republic were awful, and that Switzerland and Andorra deserved to qualify as well.
As for the show, the arena could have been better, the sound was awful, the hosets could have been smarter and I dodn't like the new EBU logo.
I voted for Malta as the best song from Semi-Final One as the UK can only vote in one semi final. If the UK doesn't win so far, I think Malta to win. There's a lot of good songs in Semi Final 1.

Greetings from the UK

Sitting watching the 1st semi final, the 16 party guests were eager to see our potential faviourite Malta to perform. though due to her slightly shakey start (definatly NOT pefect), we found that chiara did NOT chart at the top of our scores for the night.

(we LOVED 'Angel' 2005)

But we have faith that a much better performance will be visible on saturday.. good luck Malta.. your one of our faviourites here in manchester, UK :)

@Nowak

Oh yes, the average Eurovision televoter will remember she did the head move and pushed aside her microphone stand in 2005.

I agree Tomek: good singer, great peformer, but the song is not very good.

Chiara -_-'
Where to start?
I appreciate her undeniable singing skills. I am not convinced she was the wildcard, but:
The song is sooooo boring, Angel was far better. I would change Malta to Macedonia, which had an energetic performance. Unfortunately, they were (possibly) 11th as last year.
And last but not least: head moves. It freaked me out! How many times can you use the same choreography? In general, even though Chiara is a decent singer, I found her show extremely dissapointing.
Good luck to Chiara, but SHE'S NOT GOING TO WIN!

Chiara's first note was a bit shacky because she had a lot of pressure on her, but off to those seconds her voice grows more more more and more,

she just leave the hall freezed, everyone listen to her amazing and powerfull voice! Chiara is a truly talent! because after all what we are serching for this contest is the best singer to

sing a becautiful song, and chiara has this perfect criteria, she don't need any backing vocals to help her, also thers no need of and dancers to make the performance more interisting.

Chiara is a big legend to this contest, she deserves the Tiltle of the Queen of 2009!.. i hope europe vote for her, i really wish to see Eurovision in Malta, i think it will be so fresh to host the contest in the middle of the mediterranean on the beautiful island, the place, the history, and maltese people are amazing and very helpful, who visit Malta can tell you how Maltese people are down to earth persons!

She deserved to qualify for the final with her great performance, but this song is a shame for her!! She deserves a proper song!!

No I doubt she was the wildcard. Because I personally hated the song but when I saw her live I was sure she would qualify. Well deserved and good luck Malta

WELL DONE CHIARA!!!!!!
Don't take serious some of these comments beacause reading some comments here, one can see how many people are jealous because they fear from CHIARA!!!Yes, it's true that she had a false start but who's perfect after all and if someone of these calling names at here and saying that she sang terrible...maybe you should go and sing the song for yourselves infront of more than 2000 people and millions watching and we judge afterwards; the song is a hard one to sing and exitement was at its best yesterday. Chiara's proffesionalism and ability to sing was by far seen as she managed to hit all notes well after her false start and this was shown by those who voted for her.

CHIARA I'm sure you are going to make us, MALTESE proud. Her voice just stands out and that is a thing that no one can doubt.

and thanks for all (not only those supporting MALTA this year) but also those who criticise constructively WITHOUT criticising destructively especially calling the singers names(even for other singers not only Chiara)!! This is a pure example of what am I saying...
Her voice is unbearable, this woman is a calamity for the contest !The worst song of the night, so old-fashion
Kill her please, but never more Chiara in Eurosong!

P.S if you don't like the song just say you don't but not in this way or else you're just jealous of her amazing voice!!!

GOODLUCK CHIARA...HOPE YOU GIVE A MORE POWERFUL ACT NEXT SATURDAY>>>>>HOPE FOR THE WIN!!!GO CHIARA GO MALTA!!!!

I think she could be the wildcard, because Malta hasn't got many neighbours.
However, she will do well in the final.

@togravus centrum (again)

Furthermore, is it a coincidence that most of the fans here who like Chiara are the bears? No it's not.

By the way, mindset implies a general trend. It's not stereotyping. But there's no denying that general trends to exist.

Just for the record, I'm gay and underweight according to my nutritionist. I know the gay world, and I kinda know what I'm talking about.

Definitely deserved a good placing last night and a ticket to the final. Not her better performance though, i'm expecting more on Saturday.

Best of luck from Greece.

Chiara wasn't herself last night, she was very nervous and it was the 1st time ever I heard her go slightly off tune at times. But of course her vocals were still the best of this semifinal.
Congratulations to Malta and I hope in the final we will hear the real Chiara :D

El Diablo

' .. the gay mindset.' Wow, what would that be? Are you afflicted by acute and simplistic stereotyping or are you just kidding?
