Broadcaster gracious exit
Serbia beaten by strong competition
In recent years, many have blamed political voting, sound problems, vote rigging, the running order and every excuse under the sun for their entrant not passing the semi final. Radio Srbija, however has acted gracefully after the country's elimination from the Eurovision Song Contest in yesterday's second semi final.
Marko Kon and Milan Nikolic performed in fourth place during the show with their song 'Shoe' but did not qualify. "The strong competition has prevented them from passing to the final, on May 16".
Serbia has been a successful Eurovision Song Contest nation in recent years, reaching second place in 2004 (as Serbia and Montenegro) and winning in 2007 with Maria Serifovic in their debut without Montenegro. The 2008 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Belgrade and was widely applauded as one of the best Eurovision Song Contests in the 54 years of the contest for strong organisation, entertainment and security.

I really liked the song with such a nice music. Unfortunately, the vocal performance was not so good than we expected... We didn't hear Marko enough...
Europe was FAIR for the first time
Serbia has what it deserves this time.
Serbia`s song should have been a finalist.
Funny song and good performance.
It has taken the UK several years to realise that only top notch performers and an excellent song are good enough for the ESC nowadays and the likes of Belgium this year plus Serbia and Latvia et al were inevitably heading for the scrap heap. It is a shame as I have hitherto loved Serbian entries and voted for them. Next year EVERY country should pull all the stops out and field the very best in musical tallent that they have to offer. Also I am amazed hom much coverage the BBC have given to the Contest this year. It is mentioned on news bulletins, chat shows etc. The UK are back
In my opinion, the Serbian performance was a mix between the crap last year Spanish entry Chiki chiki and the interesting Bosnia 2008. Too near in our brains this two entries that's the reason why Europe did not find anything new or interesting to the Serbian song.
I think they deserved to stay in the final and I completely agree with this sentence

Just to repeat again

I will welcome Serbia next year with another amazing song...Serbia 2009? WHAT?
I didn't like the serbian song. I hoped it would stay in the semi...
I guess Serbia lost to the Ukraine's boots.
i bet that Serbia took 10 th place in televoting
This is matter of taste and it's fact that Serbia had "serious" songs, excellent performers... and now it's different, but it's not bad. Both Serbs and Europeans expect different style of songs which came from Serbia. Next year, something completely different... :-)
@Denis
Why would we change it to 100% televote? Just because we had a bad year? That happens. It's not a big deal. The way of voting so far was more than succesful. Look at out previous results. Like it or not, Cipela was the best song in Beovizija...
Well I hope that if Jovana Jankovic gives the votes this year from Serbia she will say “we don’t have a song for you in the final this year but next year we will have the best one”
We know her promises come true.
This is great way (staying in Semi Final) for RTS to learn something from this !!
GIMMICK SONGS are not popular anymore on eurovision, and I hope RTS will face with it and that hopefuly Serbia sends some good pop song for change.
PS: I'am so glad we didn't pass through Semis so our people can finaly see what popular and positive for publicin Europe is,and defenetly that's not songs like this one. In other hand i liked Cipela, and yes i'am sad we're not in final...but this is only way for people from JURY to learn something. And hope Beovizija will change voting sistem to 100% televoting.
well rubbish or not, i like this song
Too bad Serbia could't go to the final. I liked the song. Funny and
catchy. And no I'm not deaf. It's just a matter of taste
@FURKAN CINAR
OMG! FURKAN! You are a legend!!!! I love you!
Awww, I loved Serbia this year.
They were one of my favourites. Not just because it was funny, but I liked the song and the melody in it and I liked Marko & Milan. I wish it had qualified.
No "joke entries" made it to the final this year! Except Ukraine of course.
Serbia deserved to joining to the Grand Final of 2009.
@ Eurovic
Thank you for nice words about Belgrade 2008!
You are the greatest fighter of all times!
I would like to thank esctoday.com for this news!
I really think it's very nice you've put this news on your site.
That is the reaction not made only by the Radio television of Serbia (RTS), but also from the whole public in Serbia.
Thank you for the compliments about Serbia hosting the ESC last year, I really think we did a good job!
Still, "Cipela" ("Shoe"
is a bad entry, in my oppinion.
I find that it's fair we didn't qualify for the final, as there truly was a very good competition!
I hope we'll send a much better song next year and that competition will be even bigger, as that's what I'd love to see in this contest - as much of good songs as it's possible!
Greetings to all and good luck to all the countries that managed to get to the final!
I don't think Serbian hosting was one of the worst ever...
Serbia had biggest job ever since 2 semifinals was broth to competition and Belgrade done amazing job....
For me previous ESC was much much better than Moscow show. Only thing Moscow offer is bigger budget and nothing else.
Stage to huge, every entry looks so rediclous on that concert stage. Hosts are worst ever... and their English is so "understandable". Camera work.... so so bad.
I think everyone expected huge show from Moscow, and instead we got even worse than in previous years...
Good luck to all finalists tomorrow!
In my opinion Russia is well on its way to becoming the worst esc host ever...
Seems to have been a whole lot of trouble, mix ups and unsatisfied performers.
Not to mention the worst hosts I have ever seen in a semi final.
Bye bye shoe!
They deserved it. It wasn't funny at all
