Support for the artist in Greece

Sakis Rouvas: "I am so sorry, I wanted us to win"

Although both the Greek public and media are deeply disappointed by the 7th place achieved by Sakis Rouvas in the final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, there is currently unanimous support towards the artist himself in the country.

"Seventh in Europe, first in our hearts" tell many reporters on Greek television today. Greek media and public state their support for Sakis, the general consensus being that the artist gave it his best shot  even though this did not translate in enough votes from Europe. All criticism currently focuses on the selection of the song itself, rather than the artist's performance. Sakis stated that, overall, it has all been a wonderful experience for him: " Some win, some lose, personally, I gave everything I had. But it was a wonderful experience".

Sakis himself seemed disappointed and apologised to the Greek public for the final outcome: "I am so sorry, I wanted us to win." stated a disappointed Sakis Rouvas after the results were announced last night. "I am very sad I was not able to fulfill everyone's expectations" he continued.

As far as the TV ratings are concerned, Eurovision proves once again to be the most popular show in Greece by far. Starting off at 63% at the beginning of the final, ratings climbed to an average of 83% during Sakis' performance, peaking at 88,8% during the voting.

Disssapointed?, he does not sing at all, only jumps, runs and goes from here to there on stage showing his -that's right- fantastic body, that's all. What is that compared to the good songs/voices from other countries?

the greek song this year was one of the good songs but this year was a lot of nice songs from the very first moment i have dislke the song from Norway and i wasn t understand what really people found to them (but that is my opinion I We never gona found which is the real formula of succes to ESC that Alexander was the nice quite young boy that he was smulling to the camera and a lot of girls or grand mothers or gays in europe have desite to suport him + the jurys that from the very first moment it was sure that they go for a west countrie and i mean for west in map because we or not accepted greece on map isn t west( iagain in my opinion was from the very firs moment clear that UK wasn t want THIS YEAR the fesival back ther, maby 2011 in LONDON )
The rest is sorry for the expresiion s...t i mean just bad drow for greece and very good drow for Azrerbaitjan and Turkey and for that both them they have done it very well with the televoting and greece not for that lets all of us relaxed and just wait to enjoyed the victory of UK in oslo 2010
regards from Spain

Greece had the most overrated song this year so they should be happy with the 7th place. Sakis' boring outdated song deserved bottom 5 place. Besides, Sakis has a very heavy greek accent - he should not even attempt to sing in english.

Not just Greece, but many countries in top 10 ended in top 10 due to their large diaspora and neighbor sympathy votings (Turkey, Armenia, Greece, Ukraine) so they should all be happy with their place --what's there to complain about?

I hope Sakis never comes back to ESC

Some people make a fool of themself.Saying Turkey was tactical and gave 0 to Greece.
In 2005 we gave 12 to Greece you gave 0 to us. (both deserved)
In 2006 we gave 4 to Greece you gave 0 to us. (even sibel made greek version of her song but anna vissi said sth racist towards turks.)
In 2007 we gave 4 to Greece you gave 0 once again.(Turkey was among the favorites and he came for promo in Greece)
In 2008 we gave 8 points to Greece and once again 0 from Greece to turkey...And None of the turkish fans here said Greece was tactical in all of those years. So please don't make a fool of yourself just for 3 points that u gave us this year. The reason is simple Turkish televoters don't like that kind of songs. And jury was bloody boring believe me!Sakis rouvas is very well known in here with his ethnic uptempo songs as shake it and ola kala.
P.s Greek fans should't be sorry but be proud of making it to top 10 for sixth time .

Bring back televoting! Judging by the jury votes, Sakis made it top5, he was either 4rth of 5fth, so let the people decide and lets get rid of this jury farce!

Sakis has nothing to apologise for. He did a fantastic job. I think his presentation of the song was incredible, probably the best of them all, but perhaps the song itself was a little weak. Even so, it was all great!

Erika, I said
"NO EX-USSR COUNTRY AD NO E-X YUGOSLAVIAN COUNTRY WILL EVER GIVE US HIGH POINTS" and not "no points at all."
I also said "ONLY BECAUSE THEY HATE GREECE" and this is not only for the ESC but in genera. Due to my work I have the chance to travel a lot and likely I've been to most of the European countries. And believe it or not, they do hate Greek people. And if "hate' is too heavy for you I will rephrase it and say: they dislike Greek people. They have the worst opinion about us, about our mentality, our habits, our way of life. And it really pisses them off that we always brag about our ancient history and that Greece was the center of modern civilazation. Now, I know that we have many tourists not only in Rhodes but in other islands too. But if you see the statistics and comparing to how many tourists we could have, it is dissapointing. Because many of them and especially the young ones are coming due to low price holiday offers of many seasonal Greek bussinessmen. And only for that. Sorry but this is how it goes.

Sakis did the best he could with the song he was given! His performance on stage was the most impressive of all. Looking back i regret for not supporting more his slow candidate song " right on time ". But not hard feelings! It is a contest and 7th position out of 42 countries is a major achievement, especially is Patricia Kaas is right behind you and A.L.Webber in front of you!
I know greek people are proud of Sakis!

Sakis was really GREAT once more and we have to thank him for all the effort he has put in! He was going for the prize like anyone else so of course he feels disappointed. On the other hand the 7th place is a good one. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.!

TURQUALITY

What are you loling about? This year the most fanatic fans were the Turkish, spamming every news item to shout Hadise Will Win, or Istanbul2010, such fanatism as the Turks noone showed this year. Hadise will win Eurovision in every news that had nothing to do with Turkey.

And by the way, thank you Turkey for the 0 points to Sakis, we know that Sakis is popular in Turkey and well liked, but you gave him 0 in a tactical vote because he was a big favorite and you wanted to protect Hadise. At least we gave her 3 points.

To All the Greek music lovers. You shouldn't be ashamed of yourselves, Sakis' performance in the final wes excellent, it was brilliantly presented ,a really magical show. The only thing that let you down was the one thing you couldn't do anything about; the draw. You had a big disadvantage in singing quite early with quite a few up-tempo songs. Here's to Oslo 2010

Thanks for your reasonable comment.
You give me hope that not all of the Greeks are fanatics.

I think the only problem for Greece this year was too high expectations.
Sakis had a good song and an excellent show and performance. but there were many good songs this year and 7th was a fair result. Greece should be proud to be 7 out of 42 and to be in the top 10 every tear since 2004. Well done Greece

I think this result shows to us Greeks that a super star and a great performance are not enough to win the "new" Eurovision song contest. And I personally enjoy that, because I would like my country to work more on finding a good song than just a great artist.

This guy is a laugh! Try to get a new (larger!!!) T-shirt first because we know by now already you have a perfect body. A perfect smile, a perfect...well everything!
Except one thing though, your voice could be upgraded a bit. Try to do some sit ups, maybe it works. Otherwise grow up, get real and get a life. Same goes for the people from Greece btw, who are a bit to fanatic imo.

@ Van May

No one hates Greece...our greek islands ( especially Rodos ) becomes a small scandinavia every summer! Perhaps they have different music taste.
The ex ussr countries is a whole bunch of them and by the time they are done supporting each other there is no more room for voting anyone else.
And finally the ex yogoslav republics are always supporting the greek participants. This year Sakis got points from Serbia, B/H, Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia. What else do you want? They also have to support each other... :)
We have to accept the results with dignity and perhaps this outcome ( 7th placing ) is a wake up call for ERT to start turning to different composers and singers!

( Further to my very IMPORTANT comment below ...)

You should ALL be ....THANKING ...G.R.E.E.C.E.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

ESPECIALLY NORWAY!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

[...look it UP ;)] .... Europe's --historically FIRST, true WESTERN ;)-- country,
G.R.E.E.C.E. (L) was also FIRST to announce her ESC representative, (L) S A K I S (L)!!!!!! :D :D :D

THAT was in itself a GUARANTEE ;) that the bar ... HAD to be set HIGH
(and, eventually, was) by all of the other remaining ESC participating countries!!!

Hence, UK's ALW????? :O France's Patricia Kaas????? :O ...AT THE ESC???????????
OR EVEN ...Azerbaijan's (Sweden's) Arash????? Turkey's (Belgium's) Hadise?????? and so on.

After that ... ALL countries participated (GAMBLED?) ;) in this ... R.U.S.S.I.A.N. roulette!

(But it is ....NO coincidence that the "winner" just happened
to speak ...R.U.S.S.I.A.N. :O ...FLUENTLY!!) ;) Think about it!!!!

Indeed, the competition PROVED to be strong, but I still don't think the BEST song won.

1. Jade (L) was AMAZING!!! (hence Greece's 12 points to UK) ;)

2. Patricia Kaas (L) DIVINE!!!!!

3. Yohanna (L) SPLENDID!!!

Of course, I am happy for the song "Always" (L)

However, Top 2 results out of 3, are fine with me:

1. CONGRATULATIONS TO NORWAY'S "FAIRYTALE"! (It was NOT my favourite song, this year! ...TOO OLD-FASHIONED!!! From the comments I had been posting, you must realize that I did NOT vote for it. This will NOT "live" outside the ESC. Still, good job, Alexander! :))

2. CONGRATULATIONS TO ICELAND'S "IS IT TRUE?" (This was MY WINNER of the 1st Semifinal and my dark horse to even win the ESC ... it sure came close, didn't it? ;) Well done, Yohanna! :))

3. CONGRATULATIONS AZERBAIJAN'S "ALWAYS" (Everybody here knows that this was MY most favourite ESC 2009 song at first AND every listen and it was the song EVERYONE ;) ... needed to beat! It WON 3rd place!!! An ethnic sound that could have just as easily been a ...GREEK (L) entry ;) of any previous OR future years!!! ...THIS will be the only ESC 2009 song that will go high on the charts and will be heard everywhere. Well done, Arash & Aysel :)

As for Greece's (L) S A K I S (L), he had a
STRONG well-orchestrated (musically /vocally /visually) SONG
that WON (with juries ;), I might add!!!)...7th place out of 42 songs! :D :D :D
I am very satisfied with his ENERGETIC performance!!!

A B.I.G. THANKS --ONLY-- to the MILLIONS in EUROPE,
who did VOTE FOR GREECE'S (L) S.O.N.G.!!!!!!!

...."This is our night" with (L) Sakis Rouvas (L) ....

Y.O.U. HAVE SUPER GREAT TASTE IN M.U.S.I.C.
as well as a ... FRESH :), MODERN :), SLEEK :)
...OUTL@@K and APPROACH to L.I.F.E.!!!!

It is 2009, after all ... ;)

(L) S A K I S (L) ... GREECE LOVES YOU!!!! ...Europe LOVES you!!! :D :D :D :D :D

7th SONG out of 25; out of 42 songs ... millions of televotes and voted by juries ;), too, I might add!

It's been a pleasure spending time with each and everyone here.
Enjoy your summer.

I know I WILL. ;)

:L :L ...FUN :L :L...IN :L :L...THE :L :L...SUN :L :L

Thank you.

i just knew that the norwegian song would win. so many ex-soviet countries to vote for a guy from Belarus who lives in Norway.Sakis was great and for the people who know his behaviour, he is so modest than anyone else can imagine. He is a simple guy who has possitive energy and as he was an athlete, he has an athlete behaviour. He wants to win.And this is normal.I don't know anyone who goes to a contest to lose.Sakis is so modest in his real everyday life and when he steps on the stage, he transfoms to a real pop star.he's not 20 years on top, by mistake.he deserves it.if you don't know a person, don't judge by the cover.if you HAVE to say about modesty, tell it to the guy from Norway who made many fouls these days.Reporters shouted "happy birthday" to him (rouvas sang happy birthday to him in the press conference for the semifinal) and he left without saying "thank you" but "i have to go". And the worst was after his winning. Some reporters asked him how does he feel that his music voted better than Webber's song, that his performance voted better than Kaas's performance.he didn't say anything. He didn't even say that he didn't want to be compared to such music giants.I also think that he "sold" the sad real story of the song he wrote, so people vote for him.SOMEONE TO TELL THE WINNER ABOUT MODESTY PLEASE! CONGRATULATIONS NORWAY!

WHATEVER, HAVEN'T YOU LEARNED IT BY NOW? NO NORDIC COUNTRY, NO EX-USSR COUNTRY AD NO E-X YUGOSLAVIAN COUNTRY WILL EVER GIVE US HIGH POINTS, ONLY BECAUSE THE HATE GREECE! IT IS SO OBVIOUS THAT IT GETS PATHETIC! THEY HATE US! I MEAN TAKE A LOOK AT THE VOTES AND COMMENTS WE GET EVERY YEAR! IN 2005 DESPITE OF THE GOOD SONG, ELENA WON ONLY BECAUSE SHE WAS WELL PROMOTED AS A SWEDISH BORN GREEK SINGER AND GOT 12 pnts FROM SWEDEN. BUT EVEN THEN, DENMARK GAVE US 2 pnts AND NORWAY 4 pnts!
ALSO, WHILE ALL THESE SCANDINAVIAN, EASTERN HYPOCRITES NAGGING AND CRITIZISING ABOUT THE 12 pnts EXCHANGE BETWEEN CYPRUS AND GREECE EVERY YEAR, THEY KEEP ON DOING IT OVER AND OVER BECAUSE THEY SIMPLY THINK THEY CAN DO IT BUT WE CAN'T! SO, DON'T BOTHER TO LECTURE THEM. IT IS POINTLESS.

When i read your posts you really make my day!!! You are always so cheerful and positive even though sometimes i had the feeling that others would strungle you for your full of hearts posts... ;)

@ Norwegian slut
You definitely make your name an honour!!! Your mouth is so filthy that you should wash it well before you start speaking about Greece...how are you anyway??? 5? Grow up...

im from cyprus and i think sakis gave this song more potential than it really had..it wasn't a song that stood out but his performance did and he shouldn't be upset.
congratulations norway !

Whatever,

I soo agree with you. Greeks voted fairly. Lot's of tactical voting this year. Ogae Norway and Ogae Estonia gave their 12 points to Sakis yet those countries did not give a single point to Greece. Same with Turkey, Sakis is famous and liked in Turkey yet Turkey did not give a single point to Sakis, tactical voting because they wanted to increase Hadise's chances. same with Spain.
Sakis entered the Lithuanian music charts with his Esc 2009 song, Sakis did not get a single point from Lithuania. Azerbaijan that always gives some points to Greece did not give any points this year because their song Always was among the favorites too.

I truly believe that some wathcing how impressive Sakis show was on stage decided not to vote for it for tactical reasons and voted for worst entries, big big shame.

Erika :) [24024]
Mon 18 May 2009 10:43:21

@ Linda
I know exactly what you mean! I also voted for the greek song ( a lot ) among with B/H and France but at the end one lousy point from NL. While i noticed at the semi2 Greece got 10 points from NL. What does that mean??? That the juries had other plans...perhaps they got too many " loukoumia " from Hadise as a gift ;)

Anyway, 7th position is nothing to be ashamed of...on the contrary! Now we move forward and we focous on the next year! If anyone is listening from ERT...could you pls make sure to send a different type of song next time??? There are amazing artists in Greece and very talented composers out there!
