I completely agree with Layla Al-Magnuna. If ever there was a case for a full time return to jury voting, then Layla makes it. When you give the ordinary common man on the street the right to televote, you must take into consideration all the contributory factors that spurred them onto vote in the first place - whether it be voting for the hottest girl, the hottest guy, the closest neighbour to your country or voting for your home country if you live abroad. It's a sad fact that the prime reason for televoting (choosing the best song) is only one of several incentives for a viewer to pick up the phone and vote.

I'm not knocking Mike's reason for televoting. It's his right to choose that artist for that reason and I'm quite sure he is not alone in doing so.

We were lucky that the best song won on Saturday night - however how many years has a good song fallen down the rankings and underperformed because a hotter singer attracted more televotes?

Let people televote in the semi finals when there is far greater chance that the best songs will proceed to the final since 20 places are up for grabs - however let the music industry experts make the final decision on the night of the final since they will by and large have less tactical resons for voting.

I strongly agree that Italy, Monaco, Luxembourg and San Marino should return next year now that the voting system has changed. I would like to see Austria make a comeback too. Come on EBU! Please get them to return and I am sure that they will see a huge difference to the voting and be eager to stay for good. I really miss their participation in the eurovision song contest.

Layla Al-Magnuna:
In the present format Eurovision has become a SYMPATHY CONTEST, so everybody has the right to vote for whom his own emotions drive. Honestly, at least 10 singers sang better than A. Rybak last Saturday, and at least 10 songs were more substantial than "Fairy Tale". But for most of the audience A. Rybak performance was the most sympathetic, and their emotions drove them to vote for him. The EXPERTS have chosen BOSNA AND HERZEGOVINA as the BEST SONG and PATRICIA KAAS from FRANCE as the best artistic performer.

Azeri diaspora in europe?????? :))))))))........f irst time I am hearing that Azerbaijan has a big diaspora in europe. for example Hungary gave azerbaijan 8 points, but I am 100% sure that azeri population in hangury could be maximum of 1000 people :))))))
..or Greece or cypris....they gave azerbaijan 8 and 10 points, but there are no azeries at all and even more, generally greeks don't like azeries because of our ties with turkey :)))))

comon guys.......

@mike roberts
You're the kind of voter that disgusts me. This is a song contest, so if you just want to vote for hot women - watch Miss World and stop contributing to screwing up the results in ESC!!!

Leave Azerbaijan alone, I don't think their third place had much to do with diaspora voting. I only roughly know where the country is on a map, but I voted for the song. Why? because the girl singer was so hot I manged to fry an egg on the TV. And judging by the amount of votes, i think there were a lot of other guys around Europe that felt the same. None of the songs particularly did it for me, but she certainly did!

@EURO FAN the bad thing is that Cyprus only once pass to the final and that time dseserve it :P Greece cant help Cyprus with only 12 points , if u want to speak about blocks is better to speak for Ex yugo, ex soviets and Scandinavian with Baltics ( that 2 blocks this year voting each other ) :P

The votings of Spain/Andorra and Greece/Cyprus are only a few. Imagine the votings of ex-soviet countries and the Scandinavian block. If a country of these two blocks is ESC favourite, there is no possible way to lose. Those blocks give the results of Eurovision Song contest. It's so obvious.

Congratulations to Norway, although in my opinion it was not a deserved winner. However, with such a smashing victory, my personal taste is probably not the most reresnting one...
And yes, russia did a great job in the final if the ESC, adding to that one of the best finals ever regarding the musical aspect of the songs, and undeed it is the best final we have received since 1979.

i'm very sasitsfied with the result of Israel, coming 16 out of 42 countries. considering the song itself, it is a very good result. I was also satisfies to see that televoters in Israel did not involve politics with their voting, by giving to the most anti Israeli country in europe the 12 points.

Congratulations to Norway & Iceland!!
Contrary to many posts here, i think Norwary deserved every point it got...accusations of neighbourhood/block voting for this song is total crap!! They got points (mostly 8, 10, 12s) from EVERY nation - east or west!!
On a separate point though, I am concerned about one aspect of jury voting. There is constant talk/complaints of diaspora voting, and how its hoped that juries will iron that out. If that is the aim, then the juries failed on Saturday night. You dont need to look any further that the ex yugo states, and how the 12 points kept going to Bosnia or Croatia, or maybe Romania's 12pts to Moldova ??, Andorra's to Spain ?? and the list goes on...
On the otherhand, what concerns me with jury voting is that it will be a tool to punish countries that have been successful over the past decade. Countries like Greece & Turkey immediately come to mind. Yes, both countries have big diasporas throughout Europe, but in fairness both countries have sent great quality songs over the last 5 years!
Like everyone else, I am awaiting with great interest for the release of the jury votes, to see how they voted!

musically the best eurovision ever... People can slate Norway all they like but I have to say slot of random people touted the song as their winner on first listen and the juries clearly felt the same. Sure there was still some political votes but the right song won. Everyone who touts it as a political farce has only to look as far as Iceland to see that this year music won the contest. And if it were only east versus west then Norway wouldn't be in the british top ten. For me the hard work put into the entries and staging make me happy to see that it is once again a song contest and after fearing that it was on its way out if this year has given me hope of a Renaissance.

Indeed it's true .. this voting system is a lot fairer than usual. However, it has still not managed to eliminate Turkic diaspora voting. As once can evidently see from Azerbaijan and Turkey in the top 5. Did they really both deserve to be there? I thought Azerbaijan was cheap ... always on my mind, always in my heart ... very cliche lyrics. Turkey, on the other hand, was a good pop song but badly sung. It's comforting to see Iceland and UK in the top 5. Norway, well I guess the song had widespread appeal (though not mine), but I think having a Slavic boy represent a Germanic country also helped in raking the votes from Scandinavia, Central Europe and the East.
