Re:Johnny Logan's career.he has a big career in Scandinavia.and is popular in Germany.
an irish man in america, great song by johny logan. i hope these glorious days of wine and roses will return for ireland because of its great contribution in the 90s to ESC spirit. well done johny. greetings from spain and good luck.
I think Johnny Logan is right. ESC should not be about dancing, show or gimnicks, but about MUSIC. If anyone can doubt music is the most important thing of ESC
Speaking as a fan, I agree - but speaking as an ordinary person, the whole "spectacle" that is the combined singing/dancing/show presentation is really important, and part of Eurovision. Take that way, you will lose viewers. But having said that, it is about how well these things come together - a really good dance routine wont save someone who has a boring song, or is woefully off-key, you do have to be all-round good at these things, even if not perfect at them all.
I get very tired of people saying "oh novelty songs suck and shouldn't be allowed". When we start dictating what countries can enter to that level, then that's to the detriment of Eurovision. It's an event for all tastes and styles, people aren't stupid because they vote for novelty song - sometimes people actually enjoy them!
@Lucas CYP
He is not a loser when his last two albums ended up on our album charts! One of them even reached #1.
What's wrong with you guys?? hehehe.....ESC is NOT quality music?? I (and many others) think so. During the last years, there have only been a few songs I dislike. So many different musical styles, melodic and catchy songs.
Someone wrote that it was proven when Turkey did well, and malta low. It's all fair to have different opinions, but I think Turkey was maybe the best song in the final (sadly, most of the best ones went out in the semis!). Malta...very boring I think. Very dull and ordianry. Maybe Turkey was ordinary too, but at least it was youthful, fresh and modern, which I can't say about the MAltese song. But when you know that Lithuania had their best placement ever with a nvelty song. And that Latvia qualified last year with that awful infantile nonsense, and failed this year with quality rock, you can of course say that ESC-results don't reflect quality.
I think Johnny Logan is right. ESC should not be about dancing, show or gimnicks, but about MUSIC. If anyone can doubt music is the most important thing of ESC, something is wrong. I much more respect a performance like the Irish one: A good rock song with people PLAYING (or preteending to...) instruments on stage. WITHOUT all kinds of silly gimnicks, OTT-performances etc! Ukraina has much to learn....
I thought it was the messageboard at ESCnation which was the moaningboard....!
@ Sara - "And I agree with you that we did deserve that victory after a lot of years being "ignored"...hehe "
Just like us (Finland), although you are still 2 victories ahead of us
(Truly, we could have contest about which one of us has been most ignored and undervalued in ESC!
I'm mainly talking of the past here, although the last 2 years haven't been kind to us either.)
Hope our downward curve will soon turn into a rising one like yours, maybe it will happen in Norway...
I didn't know anyone remembered Teigen
I don't exactly remember him, I was -8 years old when he sang it. But I thought his performance of Mil Etter Mil was hilarious, but showed his great vocal skills. Not surprised they didn't vote for it. The studio version is of course very different. I'm even a fan of Jahn on facebook :-P
@ Hinz und Kunz....exactly what I think
I think we should stop to aks for the opinon of former participants that would have no chance today...
HE IS A LOOSER!!!
WON 3 TIMES AND STILL NO CAREER FOR HIM!!!!
LOOOOOOSER
Sara
LOL. For us it's the other way round. We've had bad placings the last 3 years
Stockholm calling:
I knew he was known in Sweden (like some Swedish artists is very known and loved in Norway) .Ohh.. I love "Aldri i Livet" also...can't believe it didn't get any points at all.
Cool that you like that song
Here are our placements the last 20 years, since 1989 (not to impressive)..17, 21, 17, 18, 5, 6, 1, 2, 24, 8, 14, 11, 22, 4, 24, 9, 14, 25, 5, 1.
The period from 1993-1996 was good and maybe we have started a good trend again.
Hi Sara
I like "Mil etter mil". Jahn Teigen was popular in Sweden to
And one of my favourite Norwegian entries is the 0 pointer "Aldri i livet" with Finn Kalvik
Axel Kearns:
I love Sir Teigen... his nil points is my favorite... Mil etter mil... so undervalued. Good that you guys won this year and with so many points, this makes up for all the beautiful Norwegian entries that got almost nothing.
That was so nice said of you, thanks!
And I agree with you that we did deserve that victory after a lot of years being "ignored"...hehe
Ohh..I didn't know anyone remembered Teigen
How nice to call him "Sir" also
He has so many hits/songs that every Norwegian is fond of (from young to old). Everyone loves him in Norway, he is a legend. He has an amazing voice (and has actually sung Opera/Musical too).
Hey! Don't talk trash about Johnny Logan! He might have a bit big ego, but he is greater now than ever. He had great winning songs too and he is quite right in a way.
It used to be more focus on the SONG and SONGWRITER before, now it is more about popular artists, props, shows, choreography and whatever else they can think of to try and gain votes - like renting in a stripper from USA.
It was live music before, orchestra, focus on the song, the artists could really sing live and they didn't need to do so much other than stand there and sing WELL. I miss those things.
Sonia's Bolero Jacket..........you've got balls!
Well twice winner for Ireland and once a song writer of winning song for Ireland, so did Ireland empasised on him not the song!...Come on Mr Johnny Logan, get real.
talking rubbish as usual
he has become so pathetic.....
As for fairytale, Alexander Rybak was very strong I am in love with fairytale, he showed his heart, bigger than song, bigger than stage and hit the high but right notes which finaly brought norway victory, thats the end of it
Whatever ...
You misunderstood, I was saying that while you said you disagree with Johnny Logan that statement you have made regarding Sakis support Johnny Logans view, that showed that Greece emphasised on singer but not the song cause This is our night was nothing special, you know, that jumpy performance and robotic movements and michael jackson style in amateurish way and smart lyrics of fly to the top baby this is our night without real feeling or love, it was nothing compare to sakis shake it performance which was hot and grabbed european viewers attention and interest to vote it to 3rd place in istanbul in 2004. As for chiara, again, that What if weeeeeeeeee of plain voice with no backing singers, a women stand alone on stage, empty performance was easily forgetable, I didn't feel anything with both sakis and chiara this time, disappointed this time, hope they learned something from it this time, no excuse, So Johnny Logan is absolutely right, some countries do emphaise on singers and not the song.
Why doesn't he write a great song Ireland, next year?RTE,can have an internal selection.and The Corrs, can sing it.after all if Patrica Kass, can do Eurovision.then the Corrs, can.
I think this guy is on a power trip. feeling good ! He is not as popuar in scandinavia as he gives the impression! I think he is just boasting in a very indirect way, maybe hoping for a comeback. Hopefully not. Had enough of seeing the same artists. It is not working for anybody
esctoday please never block me
First of all your reply was incomplete. Chiara was NOT included.
In my comment, I tried to remember the BIG NAMES which is why
S A K I S
was mentioned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sakis Rouvas is "MY heart's
great ESC 2009 winner" ... HE WAS /IS /WILL ALWAYS BE ... PERFECT.
So, I really don't care if my or your GRANDMOTHER/S and GRANDFATHER/S
liked or voted for a song that won, while reminiscing of THEIR early years gone by.
IT IS 2009.
I read yesterday in a newspaper that Mihai Traistariu will try to represent Ireland or Cyprus next year...
Jonny was a big head in 1980 and is still one now by the looks of it but I can see why he says the emphasis should be on the song rather than the singer. After all in 1980 and 1987 there was no way that he was the best singer.
