Unhappy with non-qualification

FYR Macedonia threatens Eurovision withdrawal

According to , The FYR Macedonia national broadcaster, MKTV will demand a change to the Eurovision Song Contest voting procedure for the semi finals at the next Reference Group Meeting. The broadcaster is furious that having finished in 10th place in the semi final in 2008 and 2009, the country has missed out on a place in the final due to the jury choice going to a country with fewer televotes. Eftim Gastov, director of MKTV has also threatened a possible withdrawal from the competition.

"When it happens for the second time that we are unfairly excluded from the final, the question which cannot be avoided is, is it necessary for us to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest? We would like to continue to be a part of this European event, but we are planning to hold a televised TV debate in order for professionals and the public to give their opinion on the event." Mr. Gastov was quoted as saying at a press conferene in Skopje yesterday.

The rules for qualification for the final have been agreed and set since the introduction of the two semi final system in 2008. The top nine songs by way of televote qualify for the Eruovision Song Contest final. The tenth qualifier is the country highest on the jury score card that has not already qualified. In 2008, Sweden took the jury choice in the FYR Macedonia semi final. This year, Finland were the jury choice from the semi final.

Despite the rules being clear and the methods for qualifications agreed to in the rules, MKTV are now furious that they have just missed out on qualification for the final two years running. Poland finished 11th in the Eurovision Song Contest twice in 2005 and 2006 when only one semi final was held and the top 10 counties qualified.

"The boys of Next Time definitely did not deserve this injustice. They and their band represented Macedonia in the best and most dignified possible way at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow." Mr Gastov said.

It cannot be that always the same country misses the final cause of the jury vote. The last place for finland in the final was ok. It´s the baddest entry of the country in the last years.

Macedonia, no one expected that you could pass... Neshto Shto ke Ostane is not for Eurovision! Try a great pop song like Mojot Svet next year!

FYROM only 7 votes
Belarus 10 votes !!
Montenegro 11 votes !!
Finland 9 votes
Switzerland 6 votes

and 9th placed Romania got 15 votes, so I think FYROM's representatives should analyse before getting angry about.....a simple game of having fun with music

it's not football, so please !!

I agree, let exchange the countries thinking that they are good not analysing that only neigbours vote for them, for the countires, bringing culture and songs back, like Italy, Austria and Luxembourg.....
I remind you, that Austria does not participate espacially because of these neighbouring votes....
let's introduce 50/50 in the semi finals, too

if we cut the 28 points received from FYROM neigbours, they would have only 20 points, so far aways of Romania's 9th place

The only reason FYR Macedonia reached 10th place twice is because of neighbour voting in the first place.. Of course they want only the televoting.. But pity they only think of themselves and not for other countries.. How low can you go :) I would not miss thias country on ESC and had better countries back with real good music like Italy, Austria and Luxembourg..

@ Carlos

"It seems they only liked when they got the votes from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Slovenia "for free". West Europe has been suffering their way of voting and we never said anything so if they want not to take part, ok, good bye. "

WTF are you on about? Everybody knows WESTERN europe threw a b_itch fit because of the ALLEGED way eastern europe manipulated the votes when EVERYBODY KNOWS that diaspora is ganna vote no matter from what nationallity (Slavic people are not at fault for covering almost half of Europe) and interestingly enough the media found a way to reawaken the Cold War dichotomy with East and West fighting it out like there are secret pacts between the Slavic nations to destroy the West (and vice versa) and as if they are in some neo-USSR nation.

W. Euro couldnt take a few E. Ero countries being in the top so they had to find a way to get the ball back into their playground - and there came the jury, manipulating the votes so much that an unbelieveable amount (16 to be exact) of countries gave 12 points to Norway (good song but not that good).

W. Euro manipulated and hogged the votes throughout the history of eurovision (commjunist yugoslavia won only ONCE and usually came in the bottom 5 with GREAT songs and only won because the word was out that it was ganna crumble as it did). Western Europe juggled the top with France, Luxembourg, UK and Ireland.

Those from Eastern Europe won 2 times in the past 5 yrs because they had great songs (turkey, greece have their own thing and latvia estonia have their own baltic thing so not connected to th eastern europeans in any way). Also Serbia is from Southern Europe (macedonia, bulgaria, greece, turkey, albania, romania have given them either very low points or none at all [maybe when they won they got better] and croatia and bosnia gave more points).

Attention FYROM you guys have missed the final for only the last 2 years, what about countries like Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and Cyprus who haven't qualified longer than you guys. How bout Andorra who are yet to qualify but have sent some good songs over the years.

How bout Estonia who finally qualified this year for the first time since the semi's were introduced they didn't have a hissyfit and throw in the towel and look what happened finally they qualified.

Your song wasn't too bad, this year better than last years just keep trying and don't give up and hey that could one day deliver you the contest.

I agree that Macedonia should quit, so should Switzerland, Ireland, Malta and few others who are always underranked, so maybe finally they will make some better rules about determining the results and winner...

@ Stephan

Azerbaijani song was a crap. The singers couldnt sing at all while Albanian song was very good, if not the best among Balkan entries this year.

@ carvalho
Albania presented a very good song this year and a very good singer. Macedonia had a brilliant performance in Athens. So calm down and do notuse stereotyping when descrbing ESC members.

I never heard Portugal threaten to leave the contest after they had finished at the 11th spot in both 2007 and 2006. Unfortunately these days with the jury wildcard the 10th spot is just what the 11th used the be in the past.

I think some of the comments here are a little harsh i don't know why some people are reacting the way they are. In the past the most horrible songs have passed to the final, in my opinion this year's Macedonian entry should have qualified so it is very natural for them to feel as though it wasn't fair.

What i don't understand is why some people here are taking it to another level with ridiculous harsh comments. Its sad :(

To the moderators:
Please investigate who is the person with the name Aleksandar Temelkovski, since I'm the person with that name! Last year my profile was deleted by the moderators with unknown reason. After, I created new profile here. It is impossible that another ESC fan with the same name and surname have profile here!
best regards!
Aleksandar Temelkovski

Usaully the entries of Macedonia are crap, that's a fact!
And i am talking about productions and productions have nothing to do with taste.
They have cheap entries poorly produced.... so work hard for next year!

It's funny because Macedonia never complained when they reached the fina with cheap songs!

and now IN MY OPINION, countries like Macedonia and Albania didn't brig nothing good to the contest. The contest will be better witout their songs (IT's just my taste)

Hansjürgen** Krotsch [46193]

They knew the rules before going on the contest, so Macedonia has nothing to complain!! They will be back in 2010, I hope...

IASON COSMAS [58917]

I do not understand why FYROM is complaining. Rules are rules...

Max Raspail [36649]
Fri 22 May 2009 10:55:05

Ah ha, this must be a joke... First of all, nothing is unfair if you take part in a competition where you know the rules first...
They should have become at least ninth, so they would have been in the final in any case...

Macedonia's complaining after two times not reaching the final - I can remember that people called Austria "bad losers" when they withdraw after a couple of much less successful years... If the Austrians are bad losers, then I cannot even imagine a word for the Macedonian broadcaster...

(btw. the live-performance of Macedonia was just as good as Andorra's, Switzerland's or Ireland's and they didn't came close to the final as well...)
