For the last few weeks, some countries published the votes of the Juries for the Eurovision 2009. I rearranged all the votes that has been published into tables.

This is how the juries voted in the final:

This is how the public televoted in the final:
http://img2.timg.co.(...)rums/1_130226661.jpg

This is how the jury voted in the first SF:

This is how the jury voted in the second SF:

Maybe the ESCToday site can fill the missing votes in the tables, because all the Eurovision fans wants to know how each jury has voted.

Iceland and Norway must have been on top of televoting in order to rise above the jury voting.... interesting.
I too think that the Moldovian entry was underrated. I love it, it's beautifully sung, it's with power passion and at the same time - especially at the end - very melodic and soft. Very diverse composition. I prefer listening to Moldova much more than to Norway, but then again i love watching cute Alexander.. and there you go. He was the perfect overall package of the night and he got the look on his face...... sigh

Rui Jardim, Pedro caetano

Speak for yourselves. The french presentation was simply beautifull. It deserved to be on top 5 for sure, and I'm sorry that our country's jury did't get it. Turkey? Come on,... UK 12 points?!?!?!? Are you joking?? Patricia kaas was waaaay better than that british beyonce wanna be.

Hinz und Kanz, I completely forgot that it's not necessary for Portugal to sing in English to win the contest. I am talking about Serbia who won in 2007 with a song in its native language with no English lyrics. Another example is Ukraine who won in 2004 with a song in half English half Ukranian and gave a powerful performance that completely blew me away. I am sure that it was the performance that picked up loads of points from a lot of countries that year. I know that some songs sound beautiful if sung in the native language so as long as Portugal sends a great song in Portuguese with a strong performance, a good singer with a beautiful voice, the chances of a win will be high. Even if they get 3rd or 5th place, that would be Portugal's best result to date since 1996 when they came 6th.

Thank you again televoters, you showed more taste than the jury :) Great with 12 for Moldova as well :)

Oh yes, they were profesisonal. thats why they reacted to the great vocal of Armenian sisters. Moldova was also great, with a nice voice and great ethnic presentation.

@Pedro

Actually I haven't the tiniest problem with Portuguese jury ranking and I can comprehend the outcome on the whole. Maybe Armenia could be an issue. But Moldova is my favourite entry anyway and Turkey has a well-crafted musical arrangement that in my opinion actually does not need any Hadise (except for Eurovision rules). Three of the five jury members were professional musicians, as I heard, and this might be a reason for the absence of any French incense.

Pedro Caetano [15330]
Sun 31 May 2009 22:57:57

Well, I'm one of those who "love to suck up to anything that's French", but the appeal of the French entry is still a mistery to me... terrible 3 minutes, if you ask me. That doesn't mean, though, that I'm not shocked with our "expert" jury giving points to Moldova, Turkey and Armenia... where they on drugs or what?

My friends and I either took a nap or went to the toilet during France's song....sorry. She may be a well respected singer, but the song was just too boring for us.

I am actually surprised France didn't get results from Portugal since Portuguese people love to suck up to anything that's French (not me, though). I've never liked Patricia's song anyway, it leaves me cold as an ice cube.

Insane Adulation, variation 54: Dear EBU. Please bounce all countries out of Eurovision who did disregard Miss Kaas' artistry for at least three consecutive years. Make them only allowed to return if they will give a solemn promise to cherish her aura of sophistication and go on a pilgrimage to Forbach at least once a year. And choose lines like "que je regarde encore dans le bleu de tes yeux" and some other precious evidence of customary lyric approach for the most original and valuable poetic effort ever.

Very good juri voting. nice to see Armenia's 8 points from the juri. MOldova also deserved great points. The only thing missing was Patricias 12 from Portuguese juri. The televoting is more or less predictable. Too many Ukrainans out there! Nice to see Azerbaijan didnt get any votes from the juri

Portugal loves thus ethnic music! XD And they even had a great entry this year! But shame on those jury members that did give their votes for the top #3&4!

No votes to France from the jury? Oh oh... bad Portugal.

well we can only guess how songs in their national language sound? but I'm sure much better than the horrible English versions as opposed to their own national language? In your own language you can play with words/find subtle differences in rhyming/meaning (like France 2009)
in Eurovision English versions you just have to rhyme cry/lie/die/my/why/high/try/sigh/I/by/guy/tie/yaah yaah!
and hope for the best with a combination of the above, but I'm hoping for a change next year....

When Portugal did submit songs with English lyrics, they did very poorly. I think they should keep playing to their strengths and send songs with powerful, poetic lyrics--in Portuguese.

...hm unfortunately I fear you might be right....don't forgot to mention that many so-called english yrics are just impossible to understand because of the bad pronounciation. I don't speak any eastern language, but good croatian sounds so much better than bad english...

paul c [13910]

@Hinz
I so agree with you, especially that singing in English doesn't equal better song, I mean I don't know how many songs I can count in the last 10 years, with horrible and boring English lyrics, however the majority of Europe doesn't listen to those lyrics in 3 minutes just that "oh that was English so...Portuguese song was sweet but didn't understand it etc.."
what Europe hears is:
"I would die for you, look into my eyes and see it's true"
"Fly...to the top Baby, this is our night..."
"Could it be could it be is it true? I'm ok and I'd die for you"
"Always in my heart, always in my dreams.."
"come on baby let's try, if not I think I'm gonna die, so please just tell tell me tell me why? if not, I think I'm gonna cry, and end this song with a wah wah wah"

Hm well IMO language is overrated. You will agree that English language doesn't make a bad song good, nor is a good song worse if it's sung in any other language. portugal has great potential and any time there is a portugal topic discussed here it is said that Portugal shall send ine of its internationally known singers. Of course I agree with this, but the few Portuguese artists that are internationally known nearly all are Fado/traditional singers - their songs would not work in english. As I mentioned before, I would think Portugal could do well with a luso-african singer an song, just like Sara Tavares - but songs like this only work if sung in portuguese or creole. the same could be said about brazilian inspired songs which portugal could send. We have already too many countries that sold their soul - look at Greece or scandinavia.

anyway, if I could decide in EBU, I would introduce a new rule demanding that every country must sing at least 50% in the native language. There are over 40 countries participating, every one with an own culture and musical background. I know there are other opinions which I do respect, but for me THAT is what Eurovision is about...

@Hinz
I agree absolutely 100% with you and winning is not the most important as we can see with the success of the winning songs since televoting, bu the question here is "How can a country win Eurovision?" and I'm afraid one element is singing in English, abiding by the great EBU language rules, so it means if countries want to "win" they have to think about that element these days IMO, and something that will appeal to juries/televoters...

Marija Serifovic back in 2007 would have never won with lyrics in English. on the other hand I'm sure Norway's entry this year was impossible to beat - no matter if sung in english, norvegian or chinese. And as I said - I would put the originality of a song - which contains lyrics in the native language - over a victory. Of course I would like Portugal to win, but if I was Portuguese, I wouldn't want victory for any price. I know I'm a minority, but in my opinion winning isn't everything. imagine an ESC only in english - all songs would sound the same, nothing more boring than that.
