Jury - 12 points to Germany

United Kingdom: Jury and Public vote revealed

Next country to announce the way their jury voted during the final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest is the United Kingdom. The UK's professional jury's top three marks went to Germany, Iceland and Norway respectively.

This is how the UK jury voted in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009:

UK JURY VOTE

12 Points - Germany

10 Points - Iceland

8 Points - Norway

7 Points - Malta

6 Points - Turkey

5 Points - Ukraine

4 Points - France

3 Points - Bosnia & Herzegovina

2 Points - Armenia

1 Point - Azerbaijan

And now here's how the UK public cast their votes by telephone:

UK PUBLIC TELEVOTE

12 Points - Turkey

10 Points - Greece

8 Points - Lithuania

7 Points - Norway

6 Points - Malta

5 Points - Iceland

4 Points - Azerbaijan

3 Points - Denmark

2 Points - Germany

1 Point - Portugal

So the results of these two votes were then added together, to come up with a final list of the most popular countries in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.

COMBINED JURY AND TELEVOTE

18 Points - Turkey

15 Points - Norway*

15 Points - Iceland

14 Points - Germany

13 Points - Malta

10 Points - Greece

8 Points - Lithuania

5 Points - Azerbaijan*

5 Points - Ukraine

4 Points - France

3 Points - Denmark

3 Points - Bosnia & Herzegovina

2 Points - Armenia

1 Point - Portugal

*Where there were two countries on the same score, the act with the higher public phone vote is judged to have been the winner.

Therefore, converting these points into the traditional Eurovision votes, the final Combined Results (as previously announced during the broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest) were as follows:

FINAL VOTES FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM

Turkey - 12 Points

Norway - 10 Points

Iceland - 8 Points

Germany - 7 Points

Malta - 6 Points

Greece - 5 Points

Lithuania - 4 Points

Azerbaijan - 3 Points

Ukraine - 2 Points

France - 1 Point

This is OUTRAGEOUS!!! Our just though that the German 'Silver pants' was the top of musical achievement in the Eurovision for this year? And all OUR voting went down the drain because of these such morron's??? I am not sure I support this idea of jury on that basis. Particulalry when those experts thought that the horrific squicking of Hadise was better than Patricia Kaas! Who are these people??? BBC SHORT IT OUT!

LOL. pathetic comment! well done united kingdom for voting for Germany and France. but what the hell happened and they voted for armenia?

Those people unhappy with the results should just get over it and those who criticize the juries should consider this: They are musical experts with experience in music. If they are not experts, then why on earth were they chosen to act as juries? It would be foolish if they were not experts in the music industry and were still selected to choose the top 10 songs at the eurovision song contest. Now, who would select unqualified people and why? Just forget about it and look forward to next year's contest. What's done is done now move on.

The fact that Germany got high points from UK is good in a way because it means the votes are not political. Germany voted for UK who also got points from France, the first time in many years, which is a big change, thanks to the new voting system that helped to reduce the political voting. Before the results were announced, I assumed that UK would vote for Germany because their entry is similar to music heard in UK and sounded something like the 70s-80s, which stood out from other songs. That is why the UK jury gave its top marks to the Germans. Hope you understand now.

About Turkey, well I have to say that Hadise did well to charm the juries and viewers when she winked at the camera during her performance if you can remember. The part nearer the end when the guy appeared on stage, did a flip then danced with Hadise was good enough to impress the juries and viewers, thus, pick up points. i loved that part of the Turkish entry. Well done Hadise!

I agree Hansjurgen, Germany was a good song and very well performed. And I have not seen Dita stripping to be honest. Ok she was not wearing much but he she was not the only one.

I totally agree with the 12 points from UK´s jury to Germany...the song was very good, and was very well performed!

Germany and Turkey?? I'm from the UK, and I despair. Time to emigrate.

Personally I think that the UK benefited most from the jury vote. Spain and Germany still had poor positions.

Jade did well... but ALW cannot be on stage every year trying to get votes. I wish Jade was on here own in the finals because Europe will be waiting for something like this again next year.

And i don't think there is any credibility to a jury that gives 12 pts to a song that finished 20th and the public would put it even lower...

Axel Kearns saying that cyprus has a strong diaspora vote is really laughable and shows that you are biased against Greece and Cyprus...

Axel Kearns you should be more careful when commenting on people you don't know...I don't have any problem with the juries in general i just have the RIGHT to say that the english jury was one of the worst till now!
The German entry was NOT a masterpiece for sure whether u love this entry or not!It was cheesy and bringing Dita Von Teese stripping the singer made it worse...I never said that i wanted Greece to win so you don't know what u r talking about.I believe though that Sakis Rouvas is way better than Oscar Loya from every aspect...

Knut Viking i agree 100% with what you say.5 persons are very few...8 or 10 persons would be better.Giving the 10% of the country's whole voting to a person can't be good...

I cannot believe this stupid fiasco is carrying on, the UK gave their 12 points to Turkey case closed!

as for the 50/50 system it has not made a drastic difference as Turkey gained higher points this year than they did last year ;)

get over it
move on ;)

Well done Turkey/Hadise ;)

Go on our diaspora u're really working good thanx for ur smses do that every year and i think we should put some Turks to juries also for making this jealous people more and more jealous

Don't forget u called Turks to Europe there are over 6 million Turks in Europe and they have a right to vote for their homeland

Wed 3 Jun 2009 13:08:07

@Nikos,

so what's worse, UK jury giving a 6 to Turkey and a 5 to Ukriane, or Greek, Turkish and Cypriots diaspora voters giving their own countryt the 12 and 10 ???? No my friend the Kingdom of the diaspora is over and so yes thanks to the new system..... Well done EBU

Knut Viking [16558]

I still think only 5 persons in each jury is not enough. Each member will count for 20 % of the jury votes. That might cause some "strange" results. I would like the juries to be bigger. At least 7 or 8 persons. Or 10. That would make the jury votes more credible, I think.
(Having said that, I think the 50/50 system is a big pluss).

Germany took 7 points overall without even getting one point from the public...is this fair?? without taking not even ONE SINGLE POINT from the public??

And what about Ukraine? What a masterpice it was....that's why it took 5 points from the jury while Greece took zero......Viva to dangerous juries like this who vote for Ukraine and Turkey and Germany!!

@alex: Credibility is when the ''professional'' jury from the UK votes with HIGH marks songs from TURKEY, UKRAINE and Germany???

@Dimitris calling,

"The German song was cheap and horrible,..." compared to the Greek it was a masterpiece my Greek friend.... You guys are really bad losers. I sincerely hope that next year this trend will continue and that the juries will neutralise all the disapora votes for countries like Turkey, Greece, Ex-balkan etc..... Long live the juries....Thanks for bringing some credibility back into Eurovision.
