Austria : Global Kryner and Rounder Girls join forces

Two former Austrian Eurovision Song Contest entrants join their forces and will start a tour entitled "Global Kryner versus Rounder Girls" on August 15th in Erlenbach-Furth.

After 14 dates already planned in Germany, Mallorca (Spain), Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands, the 8 artists will record their first CD from September 24th to October 8th, in studio Rooftop, Vienna.

The Rounder Girls retain the same line-up as in 2000: Tini Kainrath, Lynne Kieran and Kim Cooper. The three ladies are very busy singers, working on solo projects but also together. They actually have four different shows of their own : a gala programme named "A celebration", a concert programme "Love the skin you're in", a gospel programme and a Christmas programme.

As for Global Kryner, they still play a mix of different styles, from yodel to bossa nova, mostly with cover versions of international hits. The 2009 line-up is as follows : Anton Sauprügl, Edi Köhldorfer, Markus Pechmann, Martin Temmel and Christof Spörk. Here's a link to one of the most recent performances, beginning of June, in a festival, in Mexico, performing Tito Puente's classic Oye Como Va

Sabine Stieger, who was the last to date female voice of the band, is no longer part of it as she is presently launching a solo career under the name Samy Jones. Here's the video of her first single, Right by my side

The Rounder Girls represented Austria at the 2000 Eurovision Song Contest and placed 14th with the song All to you. Global Kryner were the Austrian representatives in 2005, with the song Y Asi. Ending 21st out of 25 in the semi-final, they couldn’t get their ticket to the final.

I always liked Global.Kryner. They had such a fun and unique style and deserved better in ESC. Her new solo song was alright, but I'd rather have her in the band.

Come back Austria!

Kind of strange alliance. I can hardly imagine them performing together - a tricky challenge to artistic flexibility, I guess.

Rounder Girls: I liked their 2000 entry with its Motown appeal and their decent singing. Maybe a bit too blandly.

Kryner - from Original Ober to Global: One of the most appealing and hazardous eclectic musical approaches I know of. Some of their stunning metamorphoses hit you like a bolt from the blue and are only possible by their stupendous musicianship letting them easily change from one style to another. A striking example of hand-made music which is one of the very few arguments for favouring instrumental live performances at Eurovision. Global Kryner with pre-produced sound and without spontaneity actually is kind of non-starter. - And they host my alltime favourite German last name as well (since it is said that Austrians speak sort of German language - a pretty controversial issue LOL): (Anton) Sauprügl - what a hefty lyrical impact this has on me. (Nix für ungut, Toni...)

The Rounder Girls were one of my favourites in 2000. I can't say the same for Global Kryner in 2005, I thought their song was bad, Bad, BAD!!

Austria would be back if the 50/50 system is introduced also in the semifinals.

both of these groups gave decent esc songs to Austria's final entries.. I actually adore Global Kryner's "Dreaming" that should have won way more than "Y asi" and Mystic Alpin had two great songs in the Austrian NF 05.. Round Girls are just kitshy fun not great by all means but still, compared to dum tek tek and others, this is good.

good luck to all of them now that esc is behind them and maybe if austria is back..

I loved the Rounder Girls. They were my winners in Stockholm.

The Rounder girls were one of Austria's best entries ever... but let's face it, that's not too difficult.
