Double CD with 52 songs released

Monaco: All songs Marie recorded between 1970 and 1975

French label Marianne Melodie has just released a double CD with all the songs recorded by Marie and published by Pathe EMI France between 1970 and 1975. This makes a grand total of 52 tracks, including her 1973 entry for Monaco, Un train qui part, and 14 previously unreleased songs.

Marie, whose real name is Marie-France Dufour, began her career at the age of 20, in 1970, with two singles that gained a certain success: Soleil and Souviens-toi de moi. In the late 80s, after a long period without any personal recording, Marie came back under a new pseudonym: Marie Marie. On October 18th, 1990, she died of an acute leukemia. Apart from the Eurovision entry, two songs on the double CD may be of a great interest for people fond of cover versions: a French version of ABBA's classic SOS and a French version of Donna Summer's early hit The hostage. In that version, the one being the hostage is not the husband of the singer but her child.

Marie represented Monaco at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest and placed 8th. The lyrics of her song Un train qui part were penned by Boris Bergman, who also wrote Monaco's 1975 entry Une chanson, c'est une lettre. He later became a very sought-after lyricist. He mainly wrote for Alain Bashung.

Special thanks to Alain Fontan.

To Marko For Life: Yes! maybe you're right, but I'm sorry, I have also the right to think they're selfish! The aim of this TV program is not only "a stupid contest" where songs are unchained ones behind the others, all the European countries must take part without exception to show at which point we are linked and all brothers… to share this unique moment of the year. This is the for me the message of the ESC !!!

Each year is the same situation with TMC. I don't understand why Monaco never takes part to the Eurovision... All small states of Europe make a special effort to participate sometime (even if they have a small budget)

The 1975 Monegasque entry was Une chanson, c'est une lettre. They probably meant the 1975 Luxembourgish entry Toi. :-)

I like her song from the 1973 contest although the performance was a little strange. I've never heard her sing anything else though.
