Unpatriotic and a security threat?
Azerbaijan questions Armenia Eurovision voters
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a war over the disputed Nagorno - Karabagh. region 15 years ago. Tensions between the two former soviet states remain high, despite intensified efforts to find a peaceful settlement to the troubles.
Azerbaijan and Armenia was competed in Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 and 2009. Azerbaijan never voted for Armenia, although Armenia did give Azerbaijan a point in the voting.
During voting at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, 43 votes were registered in Azerbaijan for Armenia. The BBC has reported that all have been questioned by the police about their voting. One member of the public that had been accused of voting for Armenia explained that the authorities bccused him of being unpatriotic and a potential security threat for Azerbaijan.
esctoday.com has asked the EBU for a comment regarding this situation and whether Azerbaijan may face any issues with participation in the competition in future. Lebanon were refused permission to compete at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest after refusing to broadcast the Israeli entry. If Azerbaijan residents find themselves unable to vote for a competing song, this may place the country in breach of Eurovision Song Contest rules.

You seem to think it was understandable that the Azerbaidzhan’s Secret Police interrogated the people who voted for Armenia? Because you think no normal innocent Azeri people would ever vote for Armenia, so those who voted for it are very suspicious and a “risk for national security”, right? They may even have connections with the mass murder in the Baku Oil Academy?

and it clearly says about the main criminal:
“A joint statement by the Azerbaijan Interior Ministry and Prosecutor General's Office identified the perpetrator as 29-year-old Farda Gadirov, a Georgian citizen of Azerbaijani descent.”
The murderer was Georgian, not Armenian!
I really have the feeling that you blame Armenia for everything which is reported wrong in Azerbaidzhan…
Tell us Orkhan. Suppose your country was in bad relations with Russia. Suppose you liked very much the Russian ESC song. And you would vote for it. Would you think it is fair that the secret police comes and takes you to the police station and interrogates you about your patriotism???
Haven’t you understood that the main point in ESC voting is that everybody shall be able to vote for any song except the own country’s song? Without having to fear harassments from police!!

So from now and on Azerbaijani people will afraid to vote Armenia beacuse of that. @Galandar my friend Turkey also occupied Cyprus land but we dont have problems like that, never a turkish police or Cyprus police accused the persons who vote for Cyprus or Turkey. And i dont know why Azerbaijan react like that.
I dont understand you Lina, why did you at the beginning post youtube-videoes of Turks damaging churches in North Cyprus etc etc? Why did you involve Cyprus in this case? It has nothing to do with this case about Azerbaijan at all and I just find it so disgusting that you suddenly start an attack on Turks in North Cyprus because of this! Makes no sense at all

Yeah thats precisely my point, although countries like Serbia, Croatia and Albania have (granted varying degrees of) problems with each other, but can still vote for each other, and what is more vote for each other without any repercussions to people that vote for the (for want of a better word) enemy country, then it just highlights how much Azerbaijan has stepped out of what is acceptable as a sovereign state who has NATO and possibly EU asperations.
This is a blatant attack on the human rights of individuals in Azerbaijan, which is made even more outragous because the Eurovision song contest, which was formed to heal ties in a war torn continent in the 1950s (only 10 years after the end of WWII) through mutual respect for each others cultures, languages, histories, ethnicities and celebrate not only our similarities (of which there are acutally many) but our differences.
Putting aside the human story here, that is the most disgusting thing, that they can trample all over a symbol of Pan-European tolerence and unity in such a way!
Please Galandar leave that blaming always... what compare Nazisim or whatever so silly. In Armenia have a civil election and we can demonstrations bad or good but in near future not to stay in Azerbaijan a civil elections you think that? I am sory but all the world know that your country like a Dynastia from father to son; yes this is this and what you think about that?

Go to any Armenian forum and see what your people write about Azerbaijan and azerbaijanies. They call us sheep, brainless, primitive, people with no nationality... Is that nazysm and intolerance that dominate in Armenia the factor that shows that you are better country? Of course u would like to be in a peaceful relations, i would repeat it is not your land under occupation.
Azerbaijan faces some problems with democracy, but calling it dictatorship would be too much. As if Armenia is so democratic, the last elections and the way they treated the demonstators showed us the real face of Armenia.

let the territorial problems resolve the ministers. I say just here about neighbouring relations and the civil rights and freedoms. Ofcourse Armenia have also humanitar problems but so thing dictatorships problem never been in Armenia that question Eurovision voters. You know that Armenia gave to Azerbaijan one point. This is have a symbolic mind for civil relationships like a european understanding. So, Armenia and Azerbaijan two neighbour countries, ofcourse have problem but need first realationships like some European Countries and come the resolve than more easy. I hope the Caucasus also reached near future some like European system.

Azerbaijan has some problems with human rights the same way as Armenia and many other ex-sovier republics. And yes first teach your nation to be european in staying in its territories and not occuping the lands of other countries and only then expect good attitude from the country the lands of which you keep under occupation.
