Eurovision winner gets French release
A French version of Fairytale
This is the very good news of this release and a sign that the record company is willing to support the record, in spite of the fact that Fairytale won three months ago now. A big promotion is presently being made on private TV channel M6, with ads reminding viewers that Alexander Rybak was the big sensation of the latest Eurovision Song Contest.
The 2009 Eurovision Phenomenom, the sticker on the CD writes. The record also has the support of RTL, which is the most popular and listened to radio station in France. As for the French version itself, the lyrics were penned by Thierry Samois. The first two choruses remain in English but turn to French at the reprise. There Sylvie Loche is doing the background vocals. You can watch an interview with Alexander Rybak, when in France, in the gardens of the record company below when he visited France to sign his record contract.
The last to date winning song sung in French was Celine Dions Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi, back in 1988. The last to date non French-speaking Grand Prix to have been performed in French by its original artist is Nicoles La Paix Sur Terre (1982).

I'm French, and I admit that I've trouble understanding what he sings in this version...
Well, you can try to sing in Norwegian...
my point is..it isn't that easy to sing in a language you can't speak.
oh that sounds very nice
I'm French, and I admit that I've trouble understanding what he sings in this version... :-S
@ Zanic night
What NORWEGIAN version!!!?
Have you heard something that no Norwegian has ever heard?!
As there are until now, only an English version of Fairytale...
Why isn't the chorus in French?
And this may be a bit off-topic, but why does wikipedia say that Fairytale got to number 9 is the UK singles charts? I very clearly remember that it only got to number 10.
the French version sucks..
Compared to the English one.. even the Norwegian one sounds wacky
Once more, the most hated song for me... won.
Are you sure you don't mean the most hated country, Kivar?
Does anyone know what the song is called in French? "c'est un fairytale" or "C'est un conte de fées""???? All very strange...and don't forget that to my knowledge Alexander has to date not performed one single song in his native Norwegian yet.
I'm french and impressed...
We had Verka, Dana International... Love shine a light too... But very impressive to see Rybak's album, woo..!
Has anyone got a link so we can hear the French version of "Fairytale"?
**I used to hate this song with a passion (not have)!
I used to have this song with a passion ... but its grown on me and I even quite like it atm
Having said that it still wasn't my choice of a winner, but given the success its had and the interest its generated for eurovision, on the whole i'm glad it did win
Once more, the most hated song for me... won.
I love how he bashes the kitsch in Eurovision!
as a frenchie i can say that this is probably the first eurovision winner since Dana Int'l to appear in the French radio and to be advertised around ! maybe esc is indeed back here, since Patricia was very talked about as well
