Tarkan to represent Turkey at Eurovision 2010

According to Sabah newspaper, Tarkan has agreed with Turkish Radio Televison (TRT) to participate forTurkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. He is reported to have agreed to sign a contract of intention with the national broadcaster this week.

According to several leading newspapers in Turkey, today, Tarkan will represent Turkey in 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Tarkan said that he agreed with TRT last Thursday but still negotiations are ongoing. He added that the contract will be signed this week and next week there will be an official  briefing for the media.  The Turkish super star also stated that an agreement has been reached withTRT about a music program  in the new music channel of TRT.

Sabah newspaper also states that Eurovision Song Contest executive produce Svante Stockselius mentioned when questioned last year that he would be happy to see Tarkan in the competition. The singer has sold more than 15 million CDs and had a global smash hit with Simarik, which was translated into English and became a huge hit as Kiss kiss for Holly Valance. His smash hit Sikidim was a previou track for former Israeli Eurovision Song Contest entrants Duo Datz album on their 1991 album as Kol ma shekadam.

Turkey came fourth last year with the song Dum Tek Tek by Hadise. and has finished in the top ten of the competition in five of the last seven years, including picking up its only victory in 2003 with Every way that I can by Sertab Erener.

Anyway, I would prefer Turkey sending a great song like 2004 and 2008.

Good for Turkey that their biggest star is going to represent them. I have listened to some of his songs, I liked "simarik" and "bu gece" when I was younger, but this sound is so dated now, so it wouldn't be a good idea to send a song like those ones. I have also listened to some of his english songs, I liked "Touch" and "Bounce". Maybe a ballad could work as well.
Good luck to Turkey!

This new is just a speculation. Tarkan's record label said he did not get offer from TRT this year.

Tarkan are none homosexual, he has already 10 years with girlfriend and will marry soon. He becomes as homosexual since for that he dresses this way and behaves. But he is none homosexual!

I never approve ipeqq's comment. It is really childish but your comments really hurt us,at least me.Like i always said,i admit the case of our immigrants. They effect the results but not as much as you think especially with new system. If their effects were so much,we wouldn't be out of top 10 two times after 2003.Some Turks say 2011 İstanbul.Yes,it is very illogical to talk like that but They do it because of their exciment and last year i saw a lot of people from other countries talking like that.We shouldn't care them, just laugh and don't care.
I really want Tarkan to represent us.I hope this year,we will watch a good and fair contest with good songs.Take care :)

I am pleased that a gay Turkish superstar will take part, this will really help gay rights groups in Turkey

LOL

Maybe that is the reason why he is working for TRT state television.. which is under control by the fundamentalist american marionette AKParty, the Turkish government..

In Germany Tarkan's version was more successful than the remake of Holly Valance. His version reach the 6. place in the single charts. Holly only reach the 14. place. I guess one reason for that was that absolutely every one was still remembering his version when Holly covered it. Their songs were released just three years apart. It was such a blatant cover just to make money out of an already successful song that a lot of people dismissed it. I guess it was the same in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgian, Norway and perhaps other countries, too. Tarkan was very successful there, Holly less so.

That's so not true sweety... there are quite a few Turkish songs that I absolute adore, Deli, Athena, Sertab Erener (although I still think Belgium should have won that year), Sebnem Parker, Klips ve Onlar and Ajda Pekkan. Dinle is one of my absolute favourite songs ever. But since the televoting, you guys sent the most horrible (for me personnaly) song and get a top 10 almost every year.... Now that's not a bad thing in general but because of the fact that at least 10 countries are 100% sure to be placed into the final, you take away the chances of a few countries who will never make it anymore into the final. That's all, but I could just as well give you other countries like Armenia, Azerbijan, a few balkans, a few ex-Russian states.....

And when a 19 year old woman (child) just before mention the points Turkey and Azerbijan (after we all just had a serious discussion about how rotten that country is) will get in the next contest and at the end UK zero... that hurts my darling. People over here are in general fed up with patrionism from certain countries... how can you shout Turkey 2011 when you don't know any of the other songs or not even your own song ???

We will see, dear Axel.Everything can happen. If the news is true,he will fail or he will shut your mouth with a well-deserved victory.Oh sorry!Second choice is impossible because you will think without sleeping and find something to talk badly about us,even if tarkan will win with a perfect performance.
I want %100 jury voting just because of people like you,Axel. You never care our good songs and always say our good results are because of some illegal reasons.I wonder why??!!

@Ippeq

Are you sure dear that you are 19 years out because you sound like you are 5... You do know that one of your cheating friends "Azerbijan" will probably be banned... So deduct already 1 twelve.... And I hope that EBU will introduce the 1 vote per phone... so all the Turkish immigrants all over Europe will only be able to phone once instead of 20-30 times for their own country... so maybe your "world" star won't do as good as you think.

When I heard "Kiss Kiss" I thought 'this would be a really good song if someone else was singing it'. Should've done my research, they just don't tell you when something is a remake.

Anyway, Tarkan seems like a good choice to me, but it all depends on the song in the end.

Dear Norwegian friends, you don't have to orginise next year contest anymore as the Turc already declared themselves "once again" the winners of 2010.... So don't spend any money, just wasted,....

Well, there were many people who said Oslo 2010 also months before Moscow 2009 so....why can't optimistic Tarkan-fans do that? It should be natural to be excited when your country sends its biggest star.

And for those that think that Tarkan had only one hit in the 90s he always comes out with good songs. For example Arada Bir is an awesome song from last year.
