Azeri agency issues rejection

Tarkan for Turkey denied by manager

The news that Tarkan will represent Turkey at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo has been strongly denied by his manager, Ulgar Atash. Tarkan yesterday told Sabah that a pre-agreement and musical arrangement had been agreed with TRT. The news was reported in several Turkish newspapers yesterday as well as the official Eurovision Song Contest website.

In a statement to the Azeri news agency APA minutes ago, “The reports that Tarkan will represent Turkey in Eurovision-2010 are not true...TRT has not offered it to Tarkan this year. Tarkan received proposals on participation in the Contest in the previous years, but he rejected them. If we receive such a proposal this year, we will reject. Tarkan is not going to participate in this contest in the coming years,”. No Turkish media have yet published any contradictary news to yesterday's reports.

Last year, Hadise mentioned that she had accepted the chance to represent Turkey but retracted the comments on orders of TRT. Her participation was later confirmed at an official press conference. Whilst Tarkan's manager has issued a denial today, it may be to protect the negotiations with TRT which Tarkan yesterday told Sabah are still ongoing.

TRT have as yet made no comment and are unlikely to do so until they hold an official press conference later this year to confirm their choice of artist to represent Turkey at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Based on previous form, TRT are likely to make no official comment until after all negotiations are concluded and contracts have been signed. They have also rebuked signers for talking to the media before any official press conference and asked for retractions of any comments to the media. This may turn out to be the reason for Mr. Atash's comments today.

@Kanny Farah
Dear English man, working in Denmark at the moment, I don`t understand what you have writed and think you too.
There is not any difference between Azeri and Azerbaijanian.
But in reality there is not Azeri nation, Azerbaijanians calls like that by simple(illiterate) people.
There are turks(Azerbaijani turks), russians, tatars, jews, georgians, lezgins, talishes in Azerbaijan.

To M For Life M: I am English, working in Denmark at the moment (my gap year at Uni). Why should that matter? I am a HUGE fan of Tarkan lol (can you guess?), but have no connection with Turks other than Tarkan (I have never been Turkey either), but I get my all my info about Tarkan from a wicked site called Tarkan Deluxe, which links up to official sources and stuff. In my opinion Tarkan is MASSIVELY talented, and it doesn't matter how many people know about him. But the truth is other musicians (doesnt matter which country you from) would be happy to achieve half of what he has in his career - some people just got to wake up to that fact!!

Where are you from?

To Mario Mir: (in continuation of what I put below) Whether you like it or not, whether people know his name or not, they know his signature track, which music commentators from reputable sites like Rhapsody, AllMusic etc all said helped change the sound of Europop forever and got Europeans used to a sound that opened the doors for other artists, from Greece, the Balkans etc. And if Ahmet Ertegun (RIP) (the man that founded Atlantic Records in America, and the Hall of Fame and discovered acts like Led Zepplin) said that Tarkan was the best live performer he had ever seen then I'd prefer to believe the opinion of an expert! Just Google it, everything I say will come up from official sources. Or you can continue to sleep.

To Blackeyed Ill-Bred: APA's is being political is all with that, but in English the terms are interchangeable, but of course maybe they shouldn't be, as not everyone that lives in Azerbaijan is Azeri - so then citizenship is separated from race.

To Mario Mir: Brutally? Ho ho ho. What a joke. As if I and millions of other Tarkan fans care he isn't known in Spain. And one person in Ukraine doesn't know him!!! Shock horror!!! And in the UK where Tarkan gave a concert at Wembley Arena, it wasn't only the Turkish diaspora. But I like how you inconveniently forget Tarkan's successes (Holly Valance's UK number 1 hit with Tarkan's Kiss Kiss, the BBC reporting on Tarkan and fans preferring the original, being the first million-selling non Russian artist in Russia, winning a World Music Award in 1999, being given a Cannes Midem Gold Disc for his sales in France in 1999, but then should I go on or should I let you live in your own dream world?

Mario Mir [44111]

@ Kanny

Tarkan is brutally unknown in Spain, France and Italy. I have an Ukrainian friend that have never heard of him. In UK I think it's only known among the Turkish diaspora.
Certainly, I knew him but not like a singer (I've never listened any song of him). However, his stories about his gay affaires has been posted on gay magazines and webs regularly...

You are right, I am pedantic this time. But source which Barry Viniker finded (APA.az) never writes Azeri. Becouse it is one of the most visited independent Azerbaijani news websites

Kanny Farah [60070]
Wed 26 Aug 2009 07:34:38

To Mario Mir: yeah you delude yourself. That's why he's giving 3 major concerts in Russia in November, in venues pulled by Western artists, and why he's one of a few singers to chart on 3 continents without singing in English. Dream on if that makes you feel better, but Tarkan's record stands on its own merits. Any fool can Google.

Mario Mir [44111]

@ Kanny

I don't care where he lives and what does with his life. Outside Turkey and satellite countries he's totally and deservedly unknown (at least as a singer).

Kanny Farah [60070]

To Blackeyed Ill-Bred: First of all don't be pedantic, they can be called Azeris, it isn't incorrect! Go look it up.

To Mario Mir: Go read a proper website like TarkanDeLuxe for proper up-to-date information on Tarkan. What you say is like 14 years old!!!!!! Tarkan left Turkey for a few years in 1994! He came back and lives in Istanbul, and has a music company there, too! I mean go to websites that are updated in these times and doesn't live in the past!

Azeri agency issues rejection ???? ha-ha-ha

Dear Barry Viniker, not Azeri, but Azerbaijanian.
You may not write cocks for Frenchs, or bears for Russians. Yes, they call themselves so, but You are editor of the most visited independent ESC website.

Mario Mir [44111]
Sat 22 Aug 2009 00:55:48

I've read in some websites that Tarkan left Turkey (he lives in USA) because he was annoyed with the Turkish media because of polemics about his sexual orientation.
I think he knows that's still a sensitive topic for Turkish society and he doesn't want to do ESC because it would mean putting him again in the bulls' eye of the media and I think he doesn't want it at this moment.

@Ki.var

Well, Turkish fans have got far this time. There is SO MUCH them and they "bombed" esctoday, oikotimes, eurovision.tv, turkish magazines and plenty more with this news of Tarkan which is a pure lie. :P

ESCtoday really didn't had choise this time lol. Even Eurovision.tv published this news which is so weird. Normally, it's oikotimes who publishes all those gossip news...

With so much rumours, it seems oikotimes.

Axel

If there were a few less Yamma Yammas I would like that song more, the rest of it is quite good. I've been watching all the contests since 1957 over the last few months (sad I know) and last week I watched Yamma Yamma Yamma Yamma Yamma Yamma Yamma Ya.

Rendez-Vous doesn't do it for me though.

@Axel Kearns

Yes, Bana Bana was a fantastic song, but obviously too much "avant-garde" for that time.
Regarding Sebnem Paker, I prefer her song "Besinci mevsim" (1996).
Oh, I can't mention all the Turkish entries I like right now, they are soooo many, but for example: Gözlerinin hapsindeyin (1990), Sev (1995), Yorgunum anla (2000), Superstar (2006) etc.

Daniel,

I know mate, I absolutely adore Bana Bana, makes me in a good mood.... But I am known for my weird taste. I like fe Rendez-vous from Belgium, for me Belgium's best entry ever. I love Yamma yamma from Finland, so maybe it's me....

Ajdin Mehic

But for Eurovision that is what counted, it really doesn't matter how wonderful she may sing other songs. I was doubtful when she wasn't performing live while traveling around Europe and then it was confirmed when she finally did.

Axel Kearns

Bana Bana a favourite :O :O (I wish there was a recoil in horror smiley)

My favourite Turkish ESC song is Seninle bir dakika (1975), other ones I like are Gözlerinin hapsindeyim (1990), Dinle (1997), Dön artık (1999), Sevgiliye son (2001) and for some reason that I can't understand because it seems so unlikely for me: Rimi rimi ley (2005).

Iki dakika (1991) is the one I cannot bear, it would be amongst my worst and most annoying Eurovision songs ever.

However it is quite suspicious that Tarkan himself said there was a pre-agreement with TRT....

Axel Kearns [47152]
Fri 21 Aug 2009 11:31:56

Tell me mate, what are your Turkish favorites ? Mine are Petr'r oil (80), Halley (86), Bana Bana (89), Dinle (97), Don artik (99), Everyway...(03), For real (04) and Deli (08).

My number 1 is Dinle, followed by pet'r oil and Deli....

benji zagreb [31957]
Fri 21 Aug 2009 11:14:23

@Axel Kearns

I don't agree with you. I could list at least 10 Turkish entries that I like more than "Dinle" (although I know that Dinle did very well at ESC and is very popular with ESC fans).

Axel Kearns [47152]
Fri 21 Aug 2009 10:37:20

What I would like to see and hear from Turkey, is a good natural singer like Sebnem Parker with an absolutely lovely song like "Dinle", and you won't hear me complaining.... Dinle is by a mile the best Turkish song ever....
