United Kingdom : Maggie Moone wins Retro 80 contest
This year, a grand total of 31 national juries voted for 12 songs from 12 countries. With 289 points and 12 times the 12 points, Maggie Moone and her song Happy everything won the competition for the UK. The 1980 British selection was one of the most exciting finals ever, as Maggie Moone and Prima Donna received the same amount of points. A second round of voting finally gave the victory to Love Enough For Two. As for Retro 80, Costa Cordalis reached the second place, with a grandtotal of 231 points for Pan (the song was penned by Mr Siegel) and Anne Delorme placed third for France. Complete results can be found here.

Besides Retro, Gary Speirs invites national clubs whose country had no televised selection in 1980 (and countries that didn’t participate at the Eurovision Song Contesta at the time) to enter a song that was a hit, in a second contest entitled Guest Hit 1980. This year’s edition saw the victory of Umberto Tozzi’s song Stella Stai for Italy only three points ahead of Cyprus’ entry, Methysmeni Politeia, by Anna Vissi

Hi Dean...a former penpal of mine even!
LEFT is contrived ESC-crap. Indeed. Would not have been made outside the contest I think. Never a good sign. So why make it then?
Like many others, I still think the best SFE 80 song by FAR is "I Want To Be Mine". This excellent new wave / punk poppy rocky song would just be a perfect modern song for 1980. Would give ESC a needed shoot in the arm back then!
Winning OGAE-contests is usually a sign of banal and cheap music. Doing bad is usually a quality sign, and usually something more original....!
Happy everything isn't bad though. But the loser from Belgium is far more rich musically.
Happy Everything should have been the UK's entry in 1980 - so much better than Prima Donna!
I was gutted back in 1980 when Happy Everything didn't win the UK ticket to The Hague. At last some sort of justice has been served! ;-)
isnt that the same paper that said amelle had been kidnapped last week
Thats interesting

OGAE GREECE gave 12 points to the UK entry, but the most interesting is that we gave 12 points to FYR MACEDONIA's entry (a masterpiece),for the countries that did not take place in the ESC 1980!!!
