EBU expressed "hope" for return
Austria still out of Eurovision
Mr. Erichsen visited Minsk, Belarus, to check the features of the venue where the 2010 Junior Eurovision Song Contest is going to be held. There, the director of Eurovision TV expressed EBU's wish to see countries that have withdrawn from Eurovision in the past (Austria, Italy, Luxembourg) return, as well as Liechtenstein fulfilling all formalities to join the competition.
Therefore, at this stage, the return of Austria to the Eurovision Song Contest is not confirmed.
The last time Austria participated in Eurovision was back in 2007, Helsinki, when Eric Papilaya didn't manage to go through the final with the song Get a life/Get alive.

@Lina !!
Oh sorry, yes, ur right again!
The Arab countries didn't join, because they don't like Israel!
@Kenan, regognicion has nothing to do with ESC . Turkey dont regognise Cyprus for exable. But personal i dont care if Morocco re join ESC or not since that countrey appears only once and before 30 years, and i dont know why some persons here want to badly Morocco to re join since that countrey didnt give anything to ESC. For me Lebanon are more importand that Morocco.
I
that Austria and Italy again by the ESC
@Burakcan Karadag
I don't think Morocco will come back before Israel will withdraw! Because they don't recognize Israel!
I hope they will join again. There's still months left for them to change their mind.
Luxembourgian and Lichtenstein tv stations are Private and EBU dont allowed private tv stations to participate to ESC , only to JESC.
I hope Austria comes back, since they really appreciate the competition. I would like to see Italy, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein in the ESC as well. The only country I have an issue with is the United Kingdom. Jade was great this year, but most of the media and public in the UK are so cynical towards the ESC and many of the former entrants are saying such horrible things about the contest (Michael Ball, Sandy Shaw, Samantha Janus...), not to mention the leader of the most cynical comments ever - Terry Wogan who actually had guts to say that he "actually loves the contest".
I will miss them! However, this proves just ONE thing, they are bad losers. They can excuse it the way they like, but it's all down to that.
Before ESC this year, they said they would return if the new rules proved to be a success, that a non-Eastern country still could win. It happened, and another "western" country came 2nd. When they still don't borther, it's obvious that they are just making excuses.
Austria has enterested some of the best and worst of ESC I think,. Late 90s were great, and also some recent songs. I love 07,05,99,97,96,95,86,85,79,72. Songs like 03,62 and 94 are stillo some of the most repulsive crap ever heard in ESC!
I feel sorry, as Austria is a real "old-timer" in ESC, with real "history". Too bad ORF behives so overuling and arrogant. I would actually feel less dissappointed if e.g. Belarus or another "new" country withdrew. Maybe others feel the same. Austria HAS a big music scene, and sort of "Belongs to" ESC-history.
I agree with much of what some male person (Marky? or another) said...ESC-fans should at least stand up for countries taking part. Not saying that we don't care or that it's no loss. However, we all think differently.
Agree with ESC-fan since 1976, with what he writes in his profile. We are fans of ESC. So why then ciritsize the majority of the songs and singers in it? Is THAT being a passionate and realfan? Unfortunately, at escnation, it's just the same!
Please come back Austria , Italy and Morocco !
Why would they come back as you see that EBU does not even have the guts to react to those Azeri dictators ?
Ric was great! Shame , 5 songs took place in final instead of semi finals' some great songs.
This story is true! I'm working in Austria (Salzbourg) and some newspaper says ORF won't bring back Austria in the ESC in 2010! The reason is still how the contest is organized. Indeed, ORF prefer a contest with only 1 final (Saturday) as before, including the big4 + last year's Winner and each year its turn 20 countries. (Worse luck! for the 20 others which have to await their turn next year&hellip
It seems that semis cause lot of commotion in Austria, Monaco, and maybe elsewhere!
Wow, Mario Mir, you seem to like hannamontana.com a lot... but it's not my taste.
Whoever I hurted, it's the naked truth...
The Austrian behaviour towars the ESC is very different than Italy or Lux, because Austria broadcasted the final last year half live, half deferred, but at least, Austrian are still conected to Eurovision. I have no doubt that ORF will return home sooner or later.
I think the website that published the news is partially saying the truth (a Belarusian agency reported the same), but maybe went too far.
I think the negotiations between EBU and ORF are going on the right way, but they hasn't probably finished at this moment, so it would be too indiscret for Mr. Erichsen about revealing it now. Probably Mr. Erichsen told it "off the record" and he tried to redefine it later. But it's a good sign for me, as well EBU is considering the participation of Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.
@ Ki.var
Go to hannamontana.com please!
Spain won't be last whatever we send. See the UK this year. A good Eurofan shouldn't repeat those apocalyptic comments everytime, in my opinion, as they are against ESC itself.
@Ki.var .
How can u say that???
Everyone here in this site hopes for a 'full-house', but that, what u said is so sad!
I agree with Erik K. completely, except Zohar's comment about that Spain should stay. I think Spain should go out. There are lots of eurofans in Spain, but TVE sends the contrary than eurofans suggest... and we are condemned to be last year by year. Without knowing if we'll participate or not, I say Spain will be last whatever we send... But it's ok... I would love to keep enjoying the contest, even if Spain went out. I will miss this year Andorra... but the contest existed with just 22 countries... we can enjoy Oslo 2010 without some entries.
Come back Austria, Italy and Luxembourg. With the new voting system in place, you have a good chance of getting good results with great songs. Try it and see. We miss you.
Austria should hide away in shame.
@ Zohar and other similar comments
How dare is your comment.
What can WE (the fans) do, if ORF is blocking Eurovision. There have been many complaints from fans, etc. but they (ORF) simply do not care at all, say they have no money, etc.
SO WHAT CAN WE (the fans) DO???? Just tell me???????
You run against walls and have no chance because just a few people at ORF are responsible and their "opinion" counts and not the opinion of the fans.
So, I really think it's unfair to give such arrogant comments because many people enjoy the Eurovision here, but we even have NO CHANCE TO WATCH it at ORF: because they simply do not show it LIVE!!!!!!
Better support us (the fans) in Austria to help us to get back and not JUMP on us and tell us "what a shame" and "if they do not care" etc. etc.
BECAUSE THAT IS SIMPLY WRONG!
@Glasgow **
LOL!!!
They came 27th because 26 other countries scored more than them. Hope that helps you understand...
Lol, sorry, only teasing!
Shame that Austria came back
2007 was so great
eric
I loved this song
I can´t understand, why he came 27th in semi...
regards
pasi
@ Erik F.
I completely agree about the 'as many countries as possible' attitude. 'More countries = more money' and that seems to be what is important. I don't like any more of the songs compared to when there were half as many countries, so quantity doesn't relate to quality.
@ Craig Eastment
I really like Keine Mauern Mehr too, it should have done better. There was some controversy about Simone posing topless, so maybe she lost votes beause of that.
I really hope austria,luxembourg and italy return and i cant wait to see the debut of liechtenstein
@Fan since 1976
But ZDF could broadcast the first Semifinal then, instead of Phoenix!
