esctoday.com National Final Awards: Start nominating
The esctoday.com national final awards
The awards will honour songs and performances that have competed in the many national finals held by most of the countries to select their Eurovision Song Contest entries but did not make it to Moscow. The awards will be given out in the following categories:
- Best national final entry
- Best national final performance
- Best ballad
- Best up-tempo song
- Best male performance
- Best female performance
- Best duo/group performance
- Best entry eliminated in a semi final, quarter final or heat
There will also be awards honouring the national finals as a whole and the broadcasters:
- Best national final
- Best staging and presentation
- Best voting system
- Best webcast
Nominations - round 1
The nominations for the song and performance categories will be done in two rounds. The formula will be similar to the Song of the Decade contest, which has been held recently.
- For all countries that held a national final, there will be two polls. In the first poll, you can choose your favourite song, in the second poll, you can choose your favourite performance.
- In the second round, one song per country will compete for its eventual nomination. There will be one poll for each category with one song/performance per country competing. Therefore, the highest placed song of a country will be in the running for "best song", the highest placed ballad will be in the running for "best ballad" and so on. The top five in each category will be the eventual nominees.
As only songs that took part in a national FINAL can be nominated, there is also a special award for songs, that were already eliminated in a semi final, quarter final, or heat. You can nominate your favourites in this category by posting a reaction!
You can vote in the first round here:

There are some exceptions for various countries: As the Czech Republic only had two songs in its national final, the song that did not win is already in the running for the second round in the categories Best national final entry, Best national final performance, Best up-tempo song and Best du/group performance. In the United Kingdom, all three acts in the national final performed the same song, therefore only a nomination in the "performance" categories is possible. Georgia withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest, but the country still held a regular national final with the aim to choose a song for the Eurovision Song Contest, therefore Georgia can also be nominated.
The polls in the first round will be open until this Friday, 18th October, 19:00 CET.

hmm...

Bulgaria - Poli Genova. I love "One lifetime is not enough"
Given the results of the recent poll the outcome is already known. Patricia and Yohanna will dominate the nominations for the women section....................... ............
DENMARK: Hera Bjork "SOMEDAY"
SPAIN: Mirela "NADA ES COMPARABLE A TI"
POLAND: Artur Chamski "KILKA SŁÓW"
SWEDEN: Molly Sanden "SA VILL STJARNORNA"
@ Engla
People don't mention NMGP with Norway like mentioning MF about Sweden because Melodifestivalen is your biggest tv event - NMGP here in Norway is not.
Togravus Ceterum
Oooooh !! I thought you were on about Albania, omg Andorra was just brillant. It was just a night of hysterical laughing
I really hope they don't withdraw, so we can see that pub again !!
NF Andorra. The guy who went to the loo. We had to wait for his votes for hours and got all those quaint commercials to keep us entertained ...
Engla
It is Festivali i Këngës, for Albania
@Marky: excuse me for this, probably very stupid, question: but which NF is FIK???????
Togravus Ceterum
Which one was that ? I remember loving Besa and Marjeta Billo a lot
I also liked Juliana Pasha & Luiz Ejlli, Era Rusi and Evis Mula
FIK always has some great songs, even if they do not win
So true, Marky. Do you remember the guy at number7???
I actually think the best NF is FIK
As it's been around for a long time, and hasn't changed that much, and is still a music festival, and has sooo much charm, which is lacking in both MGP & MF... Just my personal preference, I prefer songs & singing, over shows & TV ratings...
However, we all know Andorra does the greatest final in their only pub with 3/4 of the population
What a night that was
@Layla: If it should be about real talent only why not watch Idol then??? That's a talent competion. ESC isn't made to get more talents. It's about unite Europe in a big music SHOW!
And to you who said MF gets too much attention: why you bash MF then?? Now MF get's more attention! Thank you very much!
@Layla: The question is: Will the NF sounds most proffessional with only live music or with playback singers!!! This is a tv show then you can't ignore the performances and the show! So no the real talent isn't the only important thing to get viewers. People must think it's fun to watch. Actually it would be very boring to watch a music contest without any show or any intresting performances.
And you missed my point with that guy from Spain. Of course if I ask people they could like NMGP most. But that's not the point.
If a person from an another country tells you what he loves about Norway do you really think it's any chance he would name NMGP of all things from Norway? Think about that. That's the point!
@Rudeness Engla
Yes, it must be a show to imbecile monkeybrains who can't appreciate authentic LIVE music. You'd rather have a circus on stage? Is that what you need to grasp your short attention span? Playback is not live obviously and therefore does not show talent, except perhaps, acting talent. It's going in the wrong direction the way I see it.
Just becaue you know someone in Spain who loves Sweden or MF doesn't prove anything. This is a matter of opinion. I could mention people I know across the world who love Norway and Rybak's song too, but it wouldn't make a difference.
You love MF and little else. Do you even CARE to listen to the other NF's. I got my opinions and they are that live music is getting less importance in MF with this new rule and it just makes it all LESS authentic to me.
Maybe they should stop singing live in ESC completely, it would save us from earaches and we could just watch them all perform on stage and give us a SHOW to watch. After all, that's what you think people want, right?
Sorry for some misspelling in my latest post. But I think you understand it even with that.
@Marky: I like Emilia too! But the entries I mentioned are the ones I liked most. There are so many good songs and performances in MF then it's hard to choose!
@Layla, The Former TIMSRITNS: So MF is cheesy because the playback singers ect??? Well that's probably one good reason to why many loves MF. MF is fun to whatch at TV. It's a real SHOW!!!! So NMGP is more about music and not Show? Well that's why Sweden gets more attion for our NF. In TV it's MUST be a show or else it's not funny to watch. And an another reason, the songs. Why do you think Sweden win that many second chance contest? MF is filled with many songs. Then you filled with many old-fashioned songs If you want but still many people like it!
One thing: I talked to a friend in SPAIN. In a another forum not about ESC or MF. We didn't talk about ESC at all in that forum. But we talked what we loved most of each others countries, Spain and Sweden.
What do you think he answered that he liked about Sweden? Yes, MELODIFESTIVALEN!!!!! Of all things he could name about Sweden he took MF. Of course I was suprised and happy because we didn't talk about that. Now Sweden must suck because he named the crappy MF over all other things. He also said MF he's one of he's big moments of the year and I can't wait for next year. He said he prefer MF over ESC and think MF is way better. Do you really think anyone should say this about a another NF? Probably not!
Patte, well I see I can seem patriotic based on my differing views of the quality of recent Norwegian / Swedish semis.I DO think our semis recently have been more modern and diverse musically. We also have the advantage of thinking more "music program" than "TV show" - I think! But I'm not actually. When it comes to both international and national finals, I think few countries have - over the years - made songs / finals *worse* than us. Not that we have generally been so bad, other countries have simply made songs with more originality, quality and "confidence" - at least in my opinion. Sweden is a country I usually like more. But in general, I tend to favor Eastern and South-European songs / finals.
My point was not to mock Sweden or fans of MF, so I'm not a MF-basher per ce. I like most of the MF songs (don't like all the schlager clichés though), and I like the big attention MF causes on the Eastern side of our border. I just don't think it's right to say that Sweden is so much better than other countries musically etc. Certainly, there are lots of quality songs and finals in other countries too. I find it strange that some people seemingly can praise Swedish finals, whilst being indifferent to others?
So MF-lovers, what is the "secret" you think? What makes MF so particularly good? Again, I'm not saying one thing is more "correct" than the other. But on a discussion board, I guess analysis on "why", is as fruitful as just saying "yes or no".
I have only voted for those songs and performances I can remember month after I listened to:
* Spain: best song: Isi - Ahora no / best performance: Melody - Amante de la luna
* Israel: best song and performance: Bo'i lirkod iti - Will you dance with me
*Sweden: best song: Caroline af Ugglas - Snälla, snälla / best performance: Alcazar - Stay the night
* Malta: best song ad performance: Miriam Christine - Mama
* Norway: impossible to vote, nothing better than Rybak's song and performance
