*Melody competed with "los Vivancos" in the semi final, but the group withdrew from the competition before the final. The singer performed in the final with different dancers and although she competed simply as "Melody" this time, we still consider it a group performance as it followed a similar concept as in the semi final.

BEST VOTING SYSTEM

Vote here.

  1. MGP 2009 (Norway)
Semi finals: 100% televoting selects two acts to move forward to the final. The third and fourth placed entries along with the act in the bottom two of all semi finals that received the most votes and a wildcard advance to the second chance round.
Second chance round: The eight acts compete in pairs. The favourite of each pair (as chosen by televoting) reaches the second round, where the formula is repeated.
Final: The winner is chosen in two rounds of voting. In the first round, televoting alone selects the top four. In the second round, the eventual winner is chosen by four regional juries who gave points before the absolute televoting numbers were added to reach the final score.
  2. Festival RTP da Canção 2009 (Portugal)
20 juries first vote in Eurovision style. The top ten of the jury are then given 1-8, 10 and 12 points. The televoting results are converted in the same style and added to the jury result to decide the winner.
  3. Eurovisión: El retorno (Spain)
Qualification: Songs are presented on the internet in ten different categories and an online voting is held. The top five of each category move on to the next round. The 20 songs with the most votes go directly to the televised semi finals. Another ten are chosen by a jury.
Semi finals: Both a jury and televoting give 1-8, 10 and 12 points to the ten songs. The top four go forward to the final (originally, a second chance round was supposed to be held for the fourth placed entries, but it was cancelled).
Final: The voting was done in the same style as in the semi finals.
  4. Melodifestivalen (Sweden)
Semi finals: The finalists are chosen by televoting in two rounds of voting. In the first round the top four are chosen, but the bottom three are already announced before the close of the voting and eliminated. The top four compete in pairs and the favourite of each pair qualifies for the final. The other two entries enter the second chance round. Furthermore, an international jury chooses its favourite of each heat, which would be in the running for a wildcard in the final.
Second chance round: The eight songs compete in pairs. Televoting chooses the favourite of each pair to move forward to the second round, where the formula is repeated and two finalists are chosen.
Final: An international jury and eleven regional juries all give 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 points to their top seven songs. The top seven of the televoting are then given 24, 48, 72, 96, 120 and 144 points.
  5. Eurovision: Your Country Needs You (United Kingdom)
Six acts compete in three heats. There is a jury that gives advice and televoting selects the bottom two. Andrew Lloyd Webber then decides which act is eliminated from the competition. In the final, televoting alone selects the winner out of the three remaining acts.

No bother !, Norway is a "big" eurovision nation because they have been there since the 60's and have the biggest win ever !

I know how it feels on these dark cold nights as im across the sea in Scotland, getting dark at 4:30pm.... bad times :(

Paschalis I am still following the contest from 6 and I still watching it for the same reason as you ;-). On the other hand only few songs can challenge my taste. To give an example, since ''Nocturne'' and ''Voice'' I hardly find any song to catch my interest that much!!!

Paschalis [24641]
Mon 26 Oct 2009 15:44:51

@ dino and dimmis

I watch the contest since I was 11, so I can't really stop watching it, since it's like a tradition lol. Is that sado-mazohism? :S OK, it's a fact that my taste has changed a lot since then, so I like few songs every year. Thankfully, every year there are 2 or 3 songs that I love and I can listen to even after the contest.

What makes me "angry" is that most people here vote for songs that only the "hardcore" esc-fans like. Those particular songs aren't even hits in their countries. ESC national finals have much more than this recycled plastic schlager-pop and the boring ballads. But ok, whatever I do, this will never change. At least it should be less predictable.

Peace!

Paschalis we are tasteless pile we have just a different taste than you........................... ......On the other hand I still wondering why you spend so much time with the contest since you find the majority of the songs competing as cheap etc. Is there any problem with your personal life??? Is it empty??? I follow your comments and I find that your taste is very unique (besides very ameteurish and sadly booooooring) which however I like very much but please respect other persons opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Former TIMSRITNS ;)
Most ESC/NF Songs have never been in fashion, when was Schlager fashionable ?? So they can't possibly be old-fashioned :D However, I must agree with you on the performance :D Caroline af Ugglas performance was amazing !!

But saying Emilia - You're My World is crap is completely wrong, and against my religion :D It certainly doesn't fall under the steroetypical esc fan stuff either, considering 60's motown influnced songs are hardly ESC :D At least you didn't call it S Club Juniors like someone did before :O I was gonna say something else, but it's gone, I'll tell you when I remember :D

Layla and Pac. I agree with you 100 % yes I do! I like most NF-songs though, but there's no way those songs are the best. Usually, they are the most contrived, banal, clichéd and tasteless songs, made only for ESC in mind, songs that has nothing to do with other pop/rockmusic, and would sink with a stone outside ESC. So why make it. "Someday" is actually a parody, but I'm sure many have bad enough taste to LIKE that cheap stuff.

My favourite of ALL (?) NF-songs this year: Renton: I don't Know (Poland). Hear that one! That's QUALITY!

The problem with ESC-fan votings (just look at the AWFUL results in most OGAE-Song Contest / Second Chance Contests), is that banal, old-fashioned crap often do well, whilst intelligent, original quality songs often do badly. Just proves the results has NOTHING to do with quality!

Sorry if I insulted anyone....but that's my honest opinion, and I know many will agree. If music experts voted here, the results would be VERY different believe me.

SOME OF THE CRAP SONGS HERE:
Someday
I Wish I Could Pretend
Nada es...
You're My World

GOOD SONGS:

U Look Good (A scandal it didn't go to the final)
Surrender
Butterflies
Destiny
etc.

And most of the songs nomiated are sung by females...why? (Not that I don't like women, I like women more than most of you! ;) )

Performances are actually silly to vote on. ESC is about MUSIC no visuals! But well, there are always glamourgays....! (not that I mind gays in general) The fact that Måns Zemmerløv took the nomination for best performance from Carolina af Ugglas, shows that people don't know how to appreciate GOOD performance. Her performance was so strong, free for glamour (thanfully), totally genuine, honest. She just stood there, lived out her feelings and SUNG., no tasteless distracting gimnicks, just pure honestly and quality! Whilst many of the other MF-performance focus far too much on tacky dancers, silly movements, kitschy apperences etc. That is NOT quality. I so much more respect acts with INSTRUMENTS rather than dancers on stage. Singback or not. It looks more "earnest", more musical, more REAL...showing it's about MUSIC!!

Thats Interesting.

My votes!!!!
Best song: Will you dance with me?
Best ballad: Nada es comparable a ti.
Best up-tempo: Stay the night.
Best performance: Alcazar.
Best duo/group: The twin sisters.
Best female: Sarah Dawn Faner.
Best male: Mans Zelerlow.
National Final: Melodifestivalen.
Best eliminated from.....: WTO.
No votes to the category of mid-tempo song since I do not find anything interesting!!

Given this nominations I would like to say that Spaniards has proved to be very stupid since they blocked Mirela and advanced Soraya to the ESC. Same goes to Swedes Alcazar, Sarah and Mans Zelmerlow had by far better songs and performances than the plastic doll Malena! UK on the other hand could send the sisters, they were more fresh and unique than the wannabe-star Jade (however juries will always be in favor of UK no matter the singer and song). And last Israel, I liked the Israeli entry but ''Will you dance with me'' is by far better and I think they would have done better with that. Charming, sweet, mediterranean-like and above unique!!!!!

I find here the

Anyway, most of those songs are horrible. The only songs from this year's national finals that I can still listen to are:

Janita - Martian (Finland)
Jimmy Jorgensen - Alice in the wonderland (Denmark)
Johny Deluxe - Sindssyg (Denmark)
Caroline af Ugglas - Snalla snalla (Sweden)
Normativa Vigente - Alejandria (Spain)
Alexander Stenerud - Find my girl (Norway)
Publiners - Te stein (Norway)
Sunny - Carrie (Norway)

THey are all classes above the s**t from Mirela, Hera Bjork and Alcazar which are only liked by tasteless esc-fans.

Nada Es Comparable a TI - Mirela.

I have no idea why this song wasn't chosen to represent Spain. Soooo much better than 'La Noche Es Para Mi'. It's a top 5 song, easily.

Song: Surrender
Performance: Melody
Ballad : Ajer
Mid tempo: Surrender
Best up tempo: No vote
Best female: performance: Sarah dawn finer (uh where's melody?)
Best male performance: Omar Naber
Best duo performance: Noa and Mira Awad (awesome NF, Noa rocks)
Best act eliminated before the NF: BWO
Best NF: Slovenian EMA is out, so it must be Melodifestivalen obv
Best staging: Serbian and Slovenian NFs out, so again Melodifestivalen lol
Best voting system (ahah i love this category): Melodifestivalen , it's 50/50 that gives more power to the televoting favourite , i just love it. The worse is obv the Spanish one.
