ERR Relations Manager states
Estonia: "Quitting Eurovision the most possible scenario"
As esctoday.com reported earlier this month, the participation of Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 is in serious danger. The Baltic country, winner of the 2001 competition, may be the third Eurovision nation to officially announce their withdrawal (after the Czech Republic and Hungary did so).
The ERR media relations manager, Mrs. Anneli Tõevere-Kaur, stated that the final decision has not yet been made, but the most possible scenario is quitting Eurovision participation in order to face the financial difficulties. "Giving up Eurovision participation in 2010 is being discussed because of the 28-million kroons budget cut of ERR but the final decision has not yet been made", she said.
Estonia debuted in Europe's most loved show in 1994 when Silvi Vrait finished second last. Since then, they succeeded 7 rankings in the top 10, including a victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 and a joint 3rd place at the edition they hosted in 2002. Last year, Urban Symphony finished on the 6th spot with their song Randajad.
Stay tuned for updates in the upcoming days!

And what about Latvia in the 2010 song contest??? LTV really facing financial difficulties in this moment and all this year 2009
@Lina !!!
But the possibility for the withdrawing is 80%!
But i hope there will be a wonder and Estonia can stay!
Estonia didnt withdraw yet !
that;s bad. after a high rise in television viewing rates and they withdraw? anyway bye bye estonia.
@! Marky
But a quality song does not depend on budget! I get what you mean though, but I'd still rather have a shite song than none at all.
Please, don´t go away!
please take part quickly becoming my fave country after sweden
@!Marky
I thought this year's Latvian entry was excellent (especially the Latvian, rather than the Russian, version) - though I appreciate I seem to be in a minority here.
i only loved this year's entry. it was smashing.
I won't miss them. The last two entries were terrible. Goodbye Estonia.
I hope Estonia will not withdraw!
And when they will stay, then i hope for a song like 'Rändajad' again next year!

I'm not good, nor am I your friend yet
I'm just saying money can/does help with producing better quality stuff. You don't need it, but it does help... I don't see the point in trying to say the same thing in 20 million ways, so I'm gonna stop now
@Lina !!!
But singers, who are doing promo tours are scoring many points!
@Lina
Your right i really don't see the logic in promo-touring
Marky, my good and old friend.
So much money has been spent on rubbish entries, while the quailty entries usually survives even without a lot of money. Creativity doesn't always come with a price tag on it
Good point Lina, It does not have to all be about cash, Its she song and the night that matters
@Angelic, promotours is one stupid thing. Many countries win or take good places without to make any promotours. Finland 2006 and Norway 2009 is an a good examples. Also a lot of countries win or take good places without to spend a cent for videoclip. They just use National final as videoclip and one good example is again Norway this year. The participants is too many and imagine if all singers make promotour to all countries what is going to happen? all countries is going to vote for them? Also the people who care only for the nights of semifinals and final dont care for singers promotours, and that people is 95% of the voters ( maybe more), promotours is only for ESCfans who is only 1-2-3 % of the population of each countrey. So is usless.
@Ozi
Some people say everything happens for a reason
so your right it might be a blessing in disguise who knows
If certain countries will vote for certain countries anyway (regardless of song quality) then why do a promo-tour???
@ Angelic, but if many countries do not participate this year then the EBU will be forced to lower the fees... so maybe this is a good thing?
But then again countries which have a low budget can still produce something good but not something which is over the top exaggerated. Some countries don't focus on the song but on exaggerated stage gimmicks
which are pointless and expensive
and all this promo touring is a waste of time in my opinion.
@Ozi
I agree
It's a shame... especially since they did so well this year; but as I said before, countries who cant afford it shouldnt participate because it's just not worth it... the costs are just too high.
In my opinion, ERR is crying publicly, waiting for help (=money) from EBU, like Latvia did last year.
If they really want to withdraw, they had been directly announced it like CT and MTV did it.
Although i hope most if not all participating countries bring great songs to the contest in 2010. The reality is that the contest will always have both good and bad songs! that is the beauty of Eurovision
Bringing good music to the contest is in the hands of the participating countries so this can happen at any time however, i do agree money can help with this.
But i have heard good songs from low budget music producers before
Afterall those countries which supposedly have a high budget don't always send great songs you can be cheap and cheerful sometimes
Lina
That's not my point, my point is that when they withdraw and return, their entries have been better than that when they have entered regulary.
@Marky for me Hungary isnt standar ESC countrey. Sinse 1994 Hungary withdraw 4 times. I m afraid Hungary's withdrawing every year .
