Broadcaster to rethink EBU membership
Liechtenstein rules out Eurovision participation
Liechtenstein has been strongly rumoured to take part next year in the Eurovision Song Contest owing to the broadcaster 1FL's intention to become a full member of the European Broadcasting Union. Now it seems that the station has decided to postpone these plans due to financial reasons, so that the principality will not make its debut until 2011 at the earliest.
Now, the broadcaster will look into all the possible options to fund the costs of the EBU membership, after ruling out an application in December.

@Alibi , i have visa and american express card
Liechtenstein would be able to host ESC. Maybe they wouldn´t break the Record of Costs another Time, but is that really the Sense of ESC?
@Owen
Indeed they shouldn't, but if they can't hoast it then why should they take part. It's pointless!
Plus like you believe they should take part and you have every right to believe so, I have every right to believe they shouldn't!
Nemke
Just because you dont think there is any point in small countries taking part doesn't mean they shouldn't. Comparing Liechtenstien with the Vatican is completely stupid! I mean the Vatican is a country made up entirely of monks and it doesn't sit in the UN! Liechtenstien on the other hand is a sovereign country recognised by the United Nations, it has as much right to be represented in an international competition as Greece or Russia or the UK. It is just as independent just as sovereign just as much a normal country as any other, just because its tiny doesn't mean it should be held back!
Duuuuuh!
But let's put it in the esc format:
Oooh no! I really thought they would participate! It's a shame other just as big and as competent nations of hosting it don't take part, I would love to have Vatican join so we could all sing and watch esc in front of St. Peters Basilica! Maybe even the Pope could hoast it!?
Come on, I don't see a point of these small nations taking part, if you want publicity then just do what the others do, advetize on CNN!!
lina
20 days in norway? are u sure?
dont forget ur cheque book..
Without Liechtenstein (I didn't count on them) my prediction for ESC 2010 is 38 countries.
Off topic: Spanish singer José Galisteo has communicated to TVE, through his record label, his bid for representing Spain with the song 'Beautiful life' (entirely in English!!!). It's on YouTube.
@Layla, i have never been to a show before :-( And i thing ESC seat and also hotels prices in Oslo will be more higher than Russia since Norway is very cheap countrey
I have to wait and see the prices beacuse if i come to Oslo i want a front seat
If i have to pay so much money to come to Norway and my seat is 300 meters from stage is better to watch ESC from my home
Also i want 2 tickets one for semifinal and one for final
100.000 euros is enough ?
@Kenan
No, I'm not angry, lol. I get asked that a lot, that's all. BTW, my username sounds Arabic because it is.
@Lina
It's not a huge deal, just not ideal. You should come! Have you ever been to a show before? In Greece maybe?
@Layla AL-Magnuna
No, i have just asked, because u want Lebanon and Algerie to join in Eurovision, and ur user name sounds Arabic a bit! Are u angry to me for that question?
@Layla, enjoy the show and if 2 -3 countries missing is not a big deal, lets hope that i will travel also to Oslo , but if i come i will stay 20 days
@Lina
Well, it's sad. I was hoping for a full house when I can finally go to the show myself for the first time!
@Kenan
No, I'm not. Would it matter if I was?
@Sara
That's pretty cool, but I seriously hope Lene Alexandra & Mira Craig DON'T join.
:-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
I'm soooooooooooo disappointed.
I'm sad about this, but not overly surprised as I had a gut feeling that Liechtenstein would not make it to Oslo. Or Luxembourg for that matter. But I'm sure they will participate eventually and when they do I'll bee very excited to see what kind of entry they would send (now). Perhaps with the new system they might even have a chance in this game! There are exciting years ahead, no doubt about it!
@The Firebird
I'm fine, how are u?
@Kenan Ö. - Loves Angelic B
Hey Kenan
how are you my friend
Is there no Turks in Liechtenstein?
To be very honest, the only people who should be unhappy are the Turcs once more. Liechtenstein is in between Switserland and Austria, so our Turkish friends over there could have gone over the border and get yet another absolutely deserved 12..... Being such a small country, I believe a few 100 votes would have meant the full 12 points.....
I've been to Lichtenstein once, it was such a cute and tiny country...hehe
Anyway, I just read this on TV2 homepage:
Full leakage of MGP:
These artists will "jump" after Rybak:
- I've said it before and I say it again - NRK has no plans to either confirm or deny who should participate, "said MGP-project leader Leif Åge Reme VG.
But it is leaking ...
Several names have already been out. Today, the newspaper VG writes that Venke Knutson will throw herself into the Melodi Grand Prix circus.
Several well-known artists are now in the competition.
Here is the list:
Venke Knutson
Maria Haukaas Storeng
Mira Craig
A1 (the boyband)
Lene Alexandra Øien
This year's Grand Prix gets underway with the first of three "part finals" in Ørland Friday 8 January. Seven songs will compete against each other in each "part final" to secure the final place, but the number two and three get one last chance in a separate impact competition.
It's a disaster! Fans, let's be logical, ask esctoday.com and other Websites to put on line a poll so that the semis are withdrawn from the current system. Believe me, it's really serious and urgent!!!
@Layla Al-Magnuna
Are u an Arab?
@kenan its too late to telling you goodnight
its already morning
@Adonis , trachanas with challoumi yiammmmmmm
@Layla, u sound so desparate ..LOL ..come on until now only 2 countries withdraw and personal i dont thing another countrey to go away from ESC 2010
too bad. oh, well life goes on.
@ Lina. ewwww! trahana tastes so bad.
Sad news, but I didn't expect them to join (yet) anyway. It will be less countries next year than 2009 no matter what it seems.
Please get Lebanon to join or something...
Or even Algerie.
@Kenan
