Same format as 2009?

UK: Call for singers to take part in auditions

Jayne Collins Casting, the company responsible for the auditions for Your country needs you in 2009, has again called for singers to contact them for taking part at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 auditions on Twitter. Your country needs you resulted of course in finding Jade Ewen to sing the song composed by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Dianne Warren. My time got a respectable fifth place in Moscow.

No further details of the format have been released by the BBC, but it would seem probable that the same format will be used in 2010, but with a different songwriter. The casting company also tweeted that the songwriter this year will be exciting news for pop fans.

A confirmation of the selection format for the UK is expected shortly.

i would rather jump of a high cliff if lady gaga represented us. she cannot sing live, is an absolute freak and her new song is plain annoying (and so are her others apart from lovegame) anyways if italy or san marino ever return theres more chance her representing them due to her italian heritage

GaGa would be good, but I very much doubt she'd do it.

Singers/Groups that I think would do it are:
Pixie Lott
Little Boots
VV Brown
Booty Luv
Noisettes
The Saturdays
Sugababes?
Alesha Dixon
Paloma Faith

Lady Gaga would be awesome.

Her new song Bad Romance would be eligible as it was just released, and it's really good for Eurovision

@ Ben Gray

>> but who else is actually famous for being a songwriter and popstar in the UK? >>>

Are you serious? Duffy, Mika, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Little Boots, Robbie Williams - how many do you want? There are absolutely dozens.

Garry,

mate did Jordan not come second after Touch my fire... that song wasn't too bad. Probably sung by her backings.....

How about one of the singers from "Strictly Come Dancing"?

garry chelsea! Yes! Cathy Dennis as a song writer would be a BRILLIANT choice - I hadn't thought of her. She would write a great commercial UK pop song that could also do well at the contest. She also has the pop star back ground and experience to be involved in live casting shows to find a performer.

The writers that I was thinking of are pop production team xenomania (behind countless UK hits for Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Gabriella Cilmi et al). The main members are Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper (was one of Gina G's backing dancers in 1996). Pop perfection!

Thanks BBC for making an effort with Jade and Sir ALW for Moscow and not just having a recorded clip show on a Sunday afternoon before Songs of Praise. But now is the time to send what Britain does best - some pounding commercial pop. Please BBC! I beg of you.

@Jack Sargeson
I doubt that the BBC are going to fork out for another huge promotion tour like Jade's, although they probably will send the winner to a few countries. I think you're right about the "before Strictly" ad. I'm glad I've started to watch Strictly now. :D

@ Marko
VV Brown or Booty Luv would be great...and I don't think they'd be against doing Eurovision.

Do we think that we'll get an announcement this week? - Saturday? Last year, ALW made his announcement before an episode of "Strictly Come Dancing", so will that happen this Saturday. I mean, they need to give people time to apply, and then narrow it down to about 6 for the live shows which I assume will be early 2010, so they can do a promotion tour around Europe like Jade did

@Marko

I like N-dubz too some of their songs are really good :) but i personally can't see them at Eurovision.

what about cathy dennis shes a great songwriter she wrote "toxic" for britney, kylies "cant get you out of my head",sugababes "about you now", katie perry "i kissed a gir"l and many more huge hits, now thats the style of music we should be entering, all of those songs have been huegly popular worldwide

@stockholm calling. it just shows you what happens when people sing along to a backing track, thats what was heard in the sound booth, and the audience heard the prerecorded track,

These suggestions are all well and good but it's been made quite clear now that whoever sings for the UK in 2010 will be previously unknown to almost all of us. Gary Barlow would be a pleasing but unsurprising choice of songwriter.. but who else is actually famous for being a songwriter and popstar in the UK? ....Madonna? There really aren't that many so I am expecting to be surprised when the announcement is made.

@Owen Williams
I would love it if Dido represented us, she did actually release a new album a few months ago called Safe Trip Home, but she said quite bluntly a few years ago she is not at all interested in Eurovision.

Chris Ellaby [52275]

Someone mentioned Alexandra Burke - she won't be representing us. I will be seeing her perform live tomorrow tho. :D

Who would I like to see representing the UK with a good song
(something like; 'My Number one' would be amazing and there are so many British Greeks the country should have adopted Greek influences in music)

I think Pixie Lott, she has charted well with many songs in europe, especially France, where she scored a number one with MaMa Du (french version of Mama do) and got a no.2 where I live with 'boys and girls' ..

Plus she has been sucessfull in Ireland, Denmark and charted in most countries but not as well..

With a good pop song, she could come in the top five, as sticking to ballads can backfire like Malta 2009.. chiara was a total waste.

@: gary
actually i think that is quite a realistic suggestion. plus also take that have appeared as guests at anational final in europe so they are obviously aware of the audience size and potential for a europewide hit.

Sorry Dino but Bucks Fizz totally deserved their victory.

You have obviously just got an anti UK vibe going. Enough already.

What about -

Songwriter - Gary Barlow
Performer - Alesha Dixon

......? He wrote her last song for her and she can cut it live.... Popular in Europe..... She is a BBC girl already (Strictly).... Just a thought BBC.

I don't think Leona would ever do Eurovision, as she doesn't really have a reason to since she is already very famous, but UK singers who are only known in the UK might try, to try and become more known all over Europe.

A singer/group, such as the "Noisettes" could try Eurovision, as they are known in the UK and have had quite good chart success, but they aren't at the top. And I think the Noisettes are would be really suited to Eurovision. Or "The Saturdays", since one of them (Una?) has already been a backing singer for Ireland in 2006.

Marko
I don't really, I think the contest hasn't gained enough credability in the UK music scene yet, it hasn't recovered from the fact that it has been associated with bad music (especially over the 2000s, and thats as much our fault as any other country) for such a long time. So, if it was a "famous person" it is likely to be someone that isn't that famous, for example: Dido, who hasn't really been big here for a very long time, or Sam Difference who are about D list celebrity because of X factor. This would just compound the problem, giving the contest an image of down and out celebrities trying to reignite their damp careers, which put better famous artists off.
I think if we have a good 5 or 6 years of creating good talent, like Jade, and doing well in the final, with good songs (better than ALW I hope) then I think there would be a few "famous" singers more interested. Probably not of the calibre of Leona Lewis or Take That (they simply don't need the contest) but definately relatively famous ones.
