Rumour mill gets hot in Norway

Norwegian media, with the VG tabloid at the front, has been going wild with rumours about names that are thought to be part of the host nations selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo in 2010. Melodi Grand Prix will have 21 songs competing for the ticket to sing for Norway in front of the home audience. Amongst names rumoured are boyband A1, that has two British and one Norwegian member, Mira Craig, writer of the 2008 entry Hold on be strong and Maria Haukaas Storeng, who sang the said song in Belgrade finishing fifth.

Also mentioned is composer Rolf Løvland, who wrote two winning entries for Norway, La det swinge in 1985 and Nocturne in 1995. Lene Alexandra Øien, former model that participated in MGP in 2008 is rumoured to return with a self-penned song called Primadonna, that is referring to the name her ex-manager calls her in the media.

Venke Knutson is a well-known Norwegian artist, who is also amongst names speculated as well as the daughter of former Eurovision Song Contest host and A-Ha band member Morten Harket, Tomine. Returning from last year’s MGP is thought to be Alexander Stenerud, formerly also of the band Zuma.

Further artist or composer names mentioned are Mariann Thomassen, Elisabeth Carew, Aggie Peterson, Gaute Ormåsen, Håkon Njøten, Laila Samuelsen, Heine Totland, Kim Rune Hagen, Julian Bernzen, Fredrik Kempe, David Eriksen, Simen M. Eiksrud and Kim Edvard Bergseth.

Melodi Grand Prix project manager for NRK Leif Åge Reme will not confirm any of the rumours at this point however. NRK and the production company Dinamo are expected to publish the full list of participants in December.

The last remaining venue for the Melodi Grand Prix tour has been confirmed as Bodø, where the second heat will take place on 16 January. Tickets for the Melodi Grand Prix concerts are already on sale on billettservice.no

@Fabio Deluca
Their time is gone? Their time never seems to be gone and why should it be? At least they can usually sing live even if you don't like their music. Lately there's been a lot of boyband comebacks so it seems like the right time for A1 to make one as well.

No, please not Lene! We do not want Euorpe laughing at us. If we should choose to send a show song (which I think we should) then I would like to see somebody who can sing well, dance well, and look like a real star. Boy bands are something of the past now, and if artists are big in our country it is not really going to matter to the rest of europe cause they are unknown over there anyway. So I hope to see a nice selection of good songs, with good singers and good showstoppers!

The word "boyband" makes me yawn. Please, no more boybands! Their time is gone....

Lene Alexandra isn't that bad, is she? She does not have the strongest voice, but most of the time she manages to stay in tune :)

Besides I like "Hot girl, hot boy"!

and LENE ALEXANDRA CAN SING!!!!!!

@Stian Fikseaunet
You might wanna trade in your ears for a new pair. ;)

Aren't we tired of joke entries yet? "Sillycone valley", "my boobs are ok", "hot girl hot boy", "primadonna"... Her music is not exactly works of art.

@Daniel

You make me laugh :P I was having flash backs when reading your quotes :P

Pretty impressive if all of these came through - unlike in Sweden the majority are not regulars in MGP and represent a huge span of music styles. Don't expect us to win again next year but we could get a decent result. As to the hosts I still think Eddy & Patsy from AbFab should do it. They're fun, kitch and camp enough and speak Queen's English.

Molly, I couldn't agree more! The hosts are usually awful nowadays with lines that just make one cringe: "are you excited?", "are you having fun?" and the green room visits are just embarrassing: "how are you feeling?". Another thing I can't BEAR is the endless "thank you for this wonderful show" lines during the voting :@ :@ :@

As long as they don't shout at each other in horrible mid-Atlantic accents or present the show in rhyming couplets or shout 'come on Europe' at any point or go backstage and say 'it's really exciting back here' when clearly everyone backstage is just completely drunk, then I don't care who hosts it.

Although Norway is part of a big block (Scandinavia) and gets some help, I must admit that they sent really good songs and if Norway can do it, some other West European countries could so it aswell....... So well done Norway and sent us another great song. Something like Alvedansen.....

For me the most exciting names are AGGIE FROST PETERSON and Elisabeth Carew. Elisabeth Carew has the potential of being a really good r'n'b artist and i like all her songs so far :)

but FROST is by far my favorite and she has long been one of my biggest favorite artists :)

also i am interested in Håkon Njøten - since he is the leadsinger in the band Micropops. So i hope the whole band will be in the competition and if they come up with a song like "moonlight" then Norway is in the run for another top 5 placing for sure :)

Also Mira Craig will be interested - her album this year was good, and it deserved alot more attention than what it got... as mira herself said "it has been to much Britney Spears about her this year and therefore noone cared about her music"...

A1 could be a great choice if they come up with a song like their new song "Take You Home"

and LENE ALEXANDRA CAN SING!!!!!!! So i am glad to see her back again :) Go Lene :)

I am not glad for Tomine HArket though... i bet she will come up with a silly song more for JESC... also Julian Berntzen is not a artist that would fit Eurovision either. Kim Rune Hagen and Heine Totland are also not names i am to fond of... unless they come up with songs that are completely different from what they have made earlier.... Just listened to Torstein Sødals CD today, the runner up in the 2008 Norwegian final... and i am still so happy that he didnt win - soooo boring.. as many of the mentioned artists here are...

Helene Bøksle is very good, and is another artist from "Kjempesjansen" (the show Alexander Rybak won). Those who like Christine Guldbrandsen would surely like Helene Bøksle.

@jsam 93
Last year? Do you mean this year? Both Maria and Alexander were not unknowns to us.

Other artists/bands I'd hope to see (at least once) in MGP: Madrugada/SIvert Høyem, Kaizers orchestra, Katzenjammer, Benedicte Brænden, Ida Jenshus, Ane Brun, William Hut, Marit Larsen, Marion Ravn, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Herborg Kråkevik, Odd Nordstoga, Donkeyboy, Dum dum boys, Espen Lind, Kurt Nilsen, Alejandro Fuentes, Margaret Berger, Rein Alexander, Helene Bøksle.

If any of them would ever participate it would be cool.

Gaute Ormåsen = Idol's first season runner up, would be nice to see him again if he sang in Norwegian, but he has no chance
Håkon Njøten = Hahahahahaha, another Idol guy
Kim Rune Hagen = Ewwwwwwww, one of my least favourite Idol guys

Fredrik Kempe = :O NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Just NO!

Also not sure Elisabeth Carew would come with anything I would like.

I'd like to see Maria and Publiners again and A1, but not Mira or Lene Alexandra. Lene CAN'T sing and she is incapable of singing serious music.

Why is Norway so keen for big names. It had such success with a complete unknown last year...

Maria Mena has one big problem, and that is that she sometimes sings out of tune. Like she did when she appeared on Letterman a few years ago :)
