50 years of MGP

Norwegian finals hosts revealed

The hosts for Melodi Grand Prix, the Norwegian selection round for the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo 2010 have been revealed by NRK. Per Sundnes continues in the job from last year for the third time and will be joined by Marte Stokstad, an experienced radio and TV host.

Marte Stokstad has hosted programs like Topp 20 Rådhusplassen (NRK1), Gullballen (NRK1), Den Norske Humor (NRK1), Artistgallaen (TV2) and the Norwegian edition of Idol on TV2. Per Sundnes tells Eurovisionnorway.no that he is very happy to be working with Marte, whom he has known ever since she began working for P3 radio ten years ago.

Marte Stokstad tells NRK.no she has always been an avid fan of the contest. I listened to the tapes over and over again and sand along as well as I could in Greek or Icelandic. Eurovision was always big, she says.

The host couple says they will have the dignity of Åse Kleveland combined with the humour of Graham Norton. And the muscles of Doplh Lundgren, adds Ms Stokstad.

Not only is Norway hosting the international Eurovision Song Contest final next year, but the Melodi Grand Prix will also see 50 years of Eurovision in Norway  celebrated, as the country first took part in 1960.

MGP 2010:
• Heat 1: Ørland, Friday 8 January
• Heat 2: Bodø, Saturday 16 January
• Heat 3: Skien, Saturday 23 January
• Siste Sjansen: Sarpsborg, Saturday 30 January
• Final: Oslo Spektrum, Saturday 6 February

Great - I am very pleased that Marte will replace Maria... I really didn't think Maria did very well as a presenter. She does a MUCH better job singing that talking....
Per is continuing.... well, no surprise. He is ok.

@absolute guetta;
Marte works for NRK now. This fall she's been hosting a series called "The Norwegian humour".

Please do not choose Per Sundnes for Eurovision in May.

lol @ Keith

Per Sundnes is certainly not very funny as a MGP-host. His humour was more obvious when he was a side kick in "Store studio". He has done a fantastic job with the MGP. No doubt he can take the credit for the fact that Christer Björkman and SVT are looking to NRK, and not the other way around.

I'm more worried about the artists presenting the songs! I am hoping for a woman this time with an energetic song and a great dance routine. Good luck to my neighbours!

@Zanic Night: I have worked more closely with Graham Norton's productions than you can ever imagine. I know very well how funny he can be - and how awkwardly unfunny Per Sundnes is in comparison, which was the point I was trying to make. Perhaps you didn't quite get that.

Keith Graham Norton is hilarious. Maybe you need to watch his show. Or several' Father Ted episodes.

The hosts are great, I would be glad to see them both in Olso also.. gawd the people for Russia were awful no harm to them, so these who could not be any worse
(if so it would be hilarious)

Marte Stokstand was a nice surprise. She has lots of experience and I think she will do a good job. No surprise that Per SUndnes continues, even though I would prefer a change. He's better behind camera as a part of the production.

Humour of Graham Norton? Shame I can't understand Norwegian, then :(

But I didn't really like Per Sundnes last year

Good Luck to the hosts and Good Luck Norway for 2010 ;) please send another fantastic entry with culture and energy :) (L)

@Keith Timmons
Oh I hope she's back. :D

I really don't like Per Sundnes, but I expected him to stay. Marte is OK too, at least I don't have anything against her. I just hope they're not going to attempt to be funny because neither of them are that funny... not intentionally anyway. :P

Ah I like Marte Stokstad :D I also like Per Sundnes as he really has worked a lot to make MGP and Eurovision more popular amng the Norwegian audience, BUT I don't like him as host.

And hmm, Marte Stokstad is from TV2 :P Didn't NRK just announce some months ago that they would NOT try to pick up tv icons from other channels, especially from TV2? :D Well well .. I knew NRK couldn't resist, TV2 have the best tv celebrities.

Oh dear, hope these arent the two hosting ESC also... :S
I think they´re both okay, and Per Sundnes is semi-amusing I guess. I have no problem with them hosting MGP, but I hope they will pick someone else for ESC.

The humour of Graham Norton? Per Sundnes??? He has the humour of a sack of potatoes. But he's enthusiastic about the show and he's doing a good job making it popular again, so I'm glad he stays. I wasn't overly impressed with Marte in Norwegian Idol, but as long as Per is there I'm sure the shows will be great. Maria Haukaas Storeng was supposedly not even considered for the job this time, so I guess that confirms the rumours that she's back as a contestant. Best of luck to all of them!
