Jade Ewen revels in band

Sugababes set for chart smash

The Sugababes, complete with Jade Ewen, the United Kingdom's 2009 Eurovision Song Contest representative are set to return to the top of the charts over the coming weeks with their new single, About a girl. The new Sugababes line-up is Jade Ewen, Amelle Berrabah and Heidi Range. The song is already up to number eight on the itunes chart and can be legally downloaded from the itunes link. Sugababes - About a Girl - Single

The latest incarnation of one of the United Kingdom's most successful girl bands has caused controversy with fans because none of the trio are from the original line-up. The media have also been hyping up bad feeling between former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan and the existing members.

About a girl is released this week and the girls' live performance on yesterday's GMTV show can be seen below. The first album by the new Sugababes line-up will be called Sweet 7 and is to be delayed early in 2010.

"We just want our fans to hear what's on the album before we release it. This way we get to do gigs and show people what's on there. We just didn't want to waste it and show people what it's about." they said. "Amelle had a bit of time off and we didn't want to rush it. We hadn't done any promotion," they added on GMTV.

The Sugababes also appeared on Saturday night's Xtra Factor, the spin-off show from The X Factor, where Jade Ewen gave her thoughts about appearing in a television music show and the stresses involved. She also gave her advise on how to deal with singing for survival and how the show can change your life.

"ALW didnt seem to have any belief/confidence in her. "

Ozi - If ALW had no belief in her abilities, he would not have sent Jade through to the live shows from the auditions at the very beginning.
In the 3rd heat of YCNY, somehow she ended up in the Danger Zone with The Emperors of Soul (I think that week was her only dodgy performance and because of that, she didn't get the support that she'd had in the first two weeks).
ALW had to choose between Jade and EOS - and he chose Jade.
The rest as they say is history.
I can't believe that you can say ALW didn't believe in her abilities when he decided to save her then.
How can saving

@Thorazin

I absolutely agree with you: Jade did get recognized more with the publicity that she got when the old Sugababes split-up.

The song deserved to chart higher. Anyway i think some bitter fans didn't want to help the song because of the new line-up but anyway it's still a hit. Jade's first top 10 hit! yayy!

Jack Sargeson--

Oh did you?
Well If you are speaking the truth then I am Glad Andorra will be taking part that would be +1 more country. but I have my doubts as yet another website has speculated of their withdrawl and ESCtoday are keeping tight liped over the announcement, even though we were meant to have heard word by now, as ESC stated three says ago they would have the news by the end of that day..? :S

They need to hurry up lol

I think this Sugababes which are now are not good for ESC! :( :S
I wanna VV Brown, N-Dubz or Booty Luv to represent UK if somebody famous can do that!! :)

@Zanic

Other websites have said Andorra has dropped out? I heard that Andorra WILL GO to Oslo

yeah you're right about BBC. They ignored Jade's song "MY Man" which is incredibly catchy and better than the rest of chart hits. It's a shame.

Personally I didnt think they treated her good even before the contest... ALW didnt seem to have any belief/confidence in her.

I agree, Radio 1 completely left Jade in the lurch over My Man, Considering she gave the BBC a 5th place and restored its glory in the Eurovision song contest they didn't exactly treat her very well afterwards, its like they are happy to spend money and time on her when she has a chance of doing well and then once that is over she is completely dropped, which is why I'm cynical about how well the YCNY system will work into the future! they won't attract good singers if they refuse to play their songs after the contest. I think Jade would have been amazing on her own, My Man was definately the kind of song that would have done well in the UK, however considering the BBC's negative actions on it I think she was definately saved by the Sugababes, and I'm thankful of that, she is far to talented not to have a high flying career!

Ooow please Dutch radio gods and other people involved make it hit the charts here! It's such an amazing song, I've always liked the Sugababes and I honestly don't care who's in it. Although I loved all who left.

"I think the UK should send someone famous to the contest ..... has the experience and confidence on stage and is use to performing infront of a much wider audience"
Yeah, like they did in the 60s and 70s :)

Good luck to lovely Jade :D I hope this will turn out well for her.

**that was what sealed her making the top 40

"I think the reason My Man didn't do so well was it because it got overshadowed by the whole Keisha Buchanan/ Amelle exit affair which led to Jade joining"

I'm not sure but I think if anything that benefitted her. Think about the amount of press coverage Jade got because of that, and if anything I think that what sealed her making the top 40. The problem was the song wasn't playlisted by Radio 1, and Radio 1 have a ridiculous amount of control over what charts or not simply by what they playlist. Unless you're playlisted by the A or B list on Radio 1 or 2, you haven't got a hope in hell of making the top 10 or even the top 20 at a push. It's a shame, but it's true.

I think the UK should send someone famous to the contest just like some other countries do e.g. Sakis, Hadise etc. Someone famous has the experience and confidence on stage and is use to performing infront of a much wider audience. However, considering Jade was not well known she did remarkly well in the contest as well as on stage, but i personally think someone famous would benefit the UK even more in Eurovision.

One of the things that helps though with that is having a good memory as I have.

I think the reason My Man didn't do so well was it because it got overshadowed by the whole Keisha Buchanan/ Amelle exit affair which led to Jade joining.

As for the belief that most Eurovision entries are forgotten by the Monday after the final, I think some people in this country choose to be ignorant about Eurovision - if we weren't so ignorant and willing to learn, then I think they would learn something about this contest.

Personally, the UK hasn't done that well over the last few years but, off the top of my head:

2003 Jemini (Who can forget that night?)
2004 James Fox
2005 Javine
2006 Daz Sampson
2007 Scooch (Who can forget them?)
2008 Andy Abraham (Really nice bloke, shame she didn't do well).
2009 Jade Ewen (For obvious reasons...)

Just checked that list on the Web and it's correct.

i love her, shes gonna be great in the sugababes

after a few years, if she decides to go solo, she'll be jade form sugababes, and not just jade from eurovision - which will give her a much betetr chance at breakign the uk market

you never know, her songs may get (re)released!
